1960s Alan Vandersloot ’69 (York, PA) is currently serving as Board President of the White Rose Senior Center in York. He is also an elected official for West York Borough Council and co-chair for Fair Districts PA in York County.

1970s Mary Heltzel ’78 (York, PA) of the Heltzel Kalloz Financial Advisory Group in York was named to Forbes’ America’s Top Women Wealth Advisors List of 2020. Mark Schmidt ’74 (Doylestown, PA), Chief of Police for Upper Makefield Township Police Department, hired Eric Farra ’19, as a police officer in the Department. Robert W. Smith ’72 (Hershey, PA) celebrated his 70th birthday and says he has three tremendous children, a wonderful wife, seven great grandchildren, multiple businesses, and 70 gets him senior tees!

1980s Linda Amos ’84 (York, PA) had poems “Autumn, My Favorite Season of All” and “Set My Heart on Fire” published in the October 2019 issue of Pancakes in Heaven. Her poem, “Winter’s Approach” was published in the November 2019 issue. CRM Enterprises also published her poems “Tonight!” and “Anymore” in a newsletter/ezine.

Ronald L. Cole ’81 (Sayre, PA) was recently voted as Section 3 Advisor for the Pennsylvania School Board Association. His two-year term started in January 2020 and he has been involved in the Association’s Bylaws Committee and Commonwealth Education Blueprint. He currently serves as school board Vice President in the Sayre Area School District, and is Vice President for the Northern Tier Career Center board in Towanda, Pennsylvania. Dana (Brubaker) Cotton ’81 (Montgomery Village, MD), a member of the first YCP Nursing class in 1981, and designer of the school’s nursing pin, retired from government service on December 31, 2019. She started her career, after graduation, as a navy nurse followed by various civilian nursing jobs in Pennsylvania, Florida, Maryland, Virginia, Maine, and Belgium. She later returned to government service at the National Institutes of Health. The last 16 years of nursing were on Capitol Hill. First, she worked for the Office of Attending Physician in the U.S. Capitol and later moved across the street to the Supreme Court of the United States. Lynn (Smith) Csernotta ’82 (Pacific Beach, WA) was elected to Grays Harbor Community Hospital Board of Commissioners for Hospital District 2, Commissioner District 3. She took the oath of office on December 19, 2019, and began her six-year term January 1, 2020.

Dennis L. Eberly ’87 (East Petersburg, PA) operates his own private investigation/security consulting firm, On Target Investigating & Consulting, LLC. He was recently hired as a fulltime Criminal Justice Instructor for YTI Career Institute, Lancaster. Matthew J. Jamison ’83 (Greenville, SC) retired from the New Castle County (DE) Police Department on July 1, 2016, having attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and holding the Deputy Chief of Police position. In 2019, he released his first book, The Path to the Shield-A Blueprint for Entering the Policing Profession. Tammy F. Klunk ’82 (Lewisberry, PA) retired as the York County Parks Director after 37 years. She began working for York County as an intern when she was studying community recreation at York College. William R. Stafford ’83 (York, PA) announced that his son, Matthew, has accepted a job in Colorado Springs, Colorado, that is affiliated with the Air Force. William’s oldest daughter, Kelsey, had her first child, Baker, on June 2, 2019. His youngest daughter, Olivia, started Central York Middle School. Paul Stoddard ’88 (Calverton, NY) began a new job as the Vice President of Sales with ivWatch.

1990s Martin Burman ’90 (Wallingford, PA) is proud to announce that his son, Leo Burman, has made his commitment to attend YCP and play baseball in the Spartan baseball squad. He says Leo plans to major in Supply Chain Operations Management. Leo will graduate from Friends Central School in Philadelphia as an honor roll student and four-year starter of the Friends Central baseball team and achieved all Main Line and All Friends League honors as a junior. Seth Feldman ’91 (Alameda, CA) earned an EdD in May from Oakland City University in Oakland City, Indiana. He served on the California Governor’s Panel for Funding Recommendation 2020 and Beyond as well as the State Superintendent of Education’s Transition Committee for ELD and Literacy Acquisition. He was also a member of the Curry School of Education’s University of Virginia’s research committee called Redesigning Middle School. Robert F. Lambert ’94 (York, PA), President of York County Libraries, received the Dr. Frederick D. Holliday Award for Community Service. Garry W. Rappoldt ’92 (Thomasville, PA) was promoted to a senior vice president with ACNB Bank. He joined ACNB Bank in 2008 and has over 26 years of banking experience.

Jenn Strang ’99 (Pittsburgh, PA) says after five years running the marketing department of North America’s largest trade association dedicated to printing, she has launched her own firm, Jenn Strang Marketing & Communications. She provides strategic marketing communications guidance along with content creation, branding, and event planning services to her growing list of clients in the printing, software, education, consulting, and design industries.

2000s Ivy (Schneider) Buchan, PhD, ’04 (Mechanicsburg, PA), President of Helix Strategies, LLC, part of the McNees Strategic Solutions Group, was among the recipients of the YWCA’s 2020 Tribute to Women of Excellence Award. Helix Strategies helps organizations to raise funds and develop their leaders and programs for sustainable success. Emily K. (Sullivan) Donatelli ’08 (York, PA) published Mommy Motivators: A Collaborative Journal of Empathy and Support for New Mothers, in January 2020. Jessie (Kresge) Heimann ‘01 (Neffs, PA) is now a fulltime Assistant Professor of Communications at her local community college. She says it has been her dream to teach and this would not have been possible without the positive influence of faculty such as Professors Lowell Briggs and Brian Furio.

Raeann Waltersdorf ’07 (York, PA) retired from her position as Senior Administrative Assistant, Library & Technology Services, York College, in January 2020 after almost 20 years of service. John C. Wilkens ’02 (Demarest, NJ), Agency Principal, Robert J. Wilkens Insurance Agency, received recognition in February for his professionalism and community involvement as one of the Insurance Journal’s Top 20 Agents of the Year. He volunteers his time and talent with several area nonprofit organizations including the Darren Drake Foundation and The Community Chest.

2010s Julie Dunphy ’16 (Wilkes Barre, PA) joined the Eyewitness News team in January 2020 as the Weekend Morning News Anchor, Producer, and Reporter. Eric M. Farra ’19 (Fountainville, PA) was sworn in as an officer with the Upper Makefield Police Department, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, by Magisterial District Justice Michael Petrucci. Mark Schmidt ’74 (Doylestown, PA), Chief of Police for Upper Makefield Police Department, hired him. Brittany Hicks ’14 (Hanover, PA) was inducted as a member of the York Catholic High School Athletic Booster Club Hall of Fame on December 14, 2019.

Edward U. Ibeh II ’12 (Miami, FL) joined top 100 U.S. law firm Akerman LLP as an associate in the Litigation Practice Group. He focuses his practice on civil litigation matters and has experience representing commercial clients in misappropriation of partnership assets, labor disputes, conspiracy, and civil fraud. Kevin Kanouse ’11 (Morristown, NJ) was named a Generation NOW Game Changer for Livingston’s Levine, Jacobs, & Company, LLC, where he serves as a supervisor, by the Commerce & Industry Association of New Jersey (CIANJ), and was honored during a ceremony held at the Hilton Meadowlands Hotel in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Daniel S. Kazal ’16 (Owings Mills, MD) has been awarded a prestigious SMART Scholarshipfor-Service from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). He is currently a 4th-year graduate student at UMBC and veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. The program is a unique opportunity for STEM students to pursue their degrees and begin a full-time career in civilian service with the DoD upon graduation. Kim Mogensen ’14 (Chester, MD) conducted the Kent Island High School Symphonic Band at Carnegie Hall in April 2019. T.J. Platts ’18 (York, PA) was sworn in on October 16, 2019 by Mayor Michael Helfrich as an officer with the York City Police Department.

Weddings Emily Dettinburn ’14 (Jessup, MD) and Russ Patti ‘14 (Jessup, MD) were married on October 12, 2019, in Walkersville, Maryland, surrounded by family, friends, and fellow Spartans. Megan Lanigan ’13 (Staten Island, NY) and Tommy Castellano ’11 (Babylon, NY) were married on February 17, 2019, in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, surrounded by nine other YCP alumni. Terri Lynn Shadle ’05 (Harrisburg, PA) and Andrew Scott Bale were married on October 12, 2019, at the Susquehanna Art Museum in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Denise (Bravener) Trach ’91 and George M. Trach, II ’91 (New Milford, CT) celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary on November 27, 2019. Lauren Wilcox ’14 (Mount Wolf, PA) and Ryan Sheehy ’15 (Mount Wolf, PA) were married on October 19, 2019, at Stock’s Manor in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. They met six years ago at YCP and now reside in Mount Wolf, with their dog, Ted. Ryan is a Senior Practice Manager for WellSpan Health and Lauren is the Director of Individual Giving at Logos Academy in York.

Deceased Alumni Helen L. McWilliams ’45 (York, PA), March 27, 2020. She was a graduate of York Junior College and a case worker for the Pennsylvania Department of Public Assistance. She also worked in antiques and fine arts at the York Fair. She was a member of the Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church, a former member of the Matinee Music Club, and the GLOW Club. She was the wife of the late Navin D. McWilliams, Jr., and is survived by her son. Robert L. Pipken Jr. ’72 (Lancaster, PA), April 4, 2020. He was a resident of Juniper Village in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania. He is survived by a sister. Clinton K. Slonaker ’57 (Conestoga, PA), March 21, 2020. He earned an Associate Degree in Business from York Junior College and was manager of York Junior College Basketball team. He also attended Franklin and Marshall College for five years of night school where he majored in Business. He was with H&R Block for over 45 years, serving as Lancaster District Manager for 29 years. He was on the Board of Lancaster Meals on Wheels and also served six years in the Army Reserve. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and golfing, and was a baseball fan. He is survived by longtime companion, Sue Valentino, his daughter, son, sister, and many family members.

Donald E. Stump, Sr. ’43 (North Wildwood, NJ), February 25, 2020. He earned an Associate Degree from York Junior College and went on to earn a Master’s Degree from Wharton School of Business. He was an army veteran of World War II and retired from UNIVAC as a computer programmer. He was husband of the late Mildred R. Stump, and is survived by four children, nine grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Michael Vial ’74 (Hanover, PA), April 15, 2020. He was the Chief of Police in McSherrystown Borough from April 1978 to December 2009, when he retired. He then served as Security Supervisor at HACC, Gettysburg, until June 2014. He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church in McSherrystown, McSherrystown Knights of Columbus, McSherrystown Home Assoc., McSherrystown Moose, Hanover Republican Club, McSherrystown Fish & Game Association, Green Springs Rod & Gun Club, York County FOP, and the Pennsylvania Chief of Police Association. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, four grandchildren, and a brother.
