This year has presented unique challenges to the arts in York County and beyond. With the COVID-19 outbreak, the Arts Council worked to thread the needle of a safe environment. When the ACYC’s offices and galleries were closed to the public beginning in mid-March, we worked diligently to maintain connections with our community through virtual engagements. Programming pivoted to online streaming, virtual gallery exhibitions, competitions, concerts, and other social media events. We eagerly anticipate our new and reimagined programming scheduled for 2020 - 2021. We took advantage of the time we were closed to make repairs, renovate, and refurbish the galleries and work spaces at the Center for the Arts. When we do re-open, we will welcome you into our beautifully restored facility that is bright, clean, and refreshed. The arts impact all our lives by allowing us to celebrate our differences in a collective, shared experience. The Arts Council of York County: • employs four full-time and two part-time employees, • has a 26-person board of directors, • manages two facilities along East Main Street: • Center for the Arts, 121 East Main Street, • Gettys Art Center, 201 East Main Street, • has an annual budget of $400,000-$450,000, • and is supported through a combination of • grants, individual and corporate membership donations, earned income, and ticket sales. The arts enrich our lives, build bridges between cultures, promote a strong sense of community and provide opportunities for economic and cultural growth. The Arts & Economic Prosperity 5 study conducted in 2016 by the ACYC and the Americans for the Arts indicates the nonprofit arts and culture sector in York County is growing. The Arts are a $27 million industry - one that supports 846 full-time equivalent jobs and generates $2 million in local and state government revenue. The Arts are good for business. Many thanks to our community, patrons, partners, and sponsors for their support and patronage, and for your help in sustaining the arts. We extend our gratitude to the artists, musicians, actors, workshop leaders, teachers, and administrators who keep the arts alive in York County. We wouldn’t be where we are today without the support of our board members who keep our Council running smoothly, and who help brand York County as a regional arts destination.
