WELCOME TO THE UNDEREXPOSED F I L M F E S T I VA L YC 2 0 1 3 !

In ancient times, the storyteller would travel from town to town sharing him or her self through the telling of his or her story and the listener revealed themselves though their perception of the story. Today, this tradition continues in the form of independent short film as shown through the venue of film festivals. It is the director who shares his or her very mind and soul through the powerful visuals he or she brings to the screen and the festival audience leaves the theater forever changed by the experience. Over the next 3 days, the Underexposed Film Festival YC celebrates the skill, creativity, passion and dynamic storytelling that these 56 films in exhibition bring to our screen. In our 2nd year, we give to our audience an international juried competition of 39 short films in the categories of animation, documentary, experimental and narrative. You, the audience will have the opportunity to bear witness to the voices of a new and exciting generation of filmmakers, each with his or her own personal way of sharing themselves through the camera. For the filmmaker, he or she has the opportunity to not only entertain, but to expose the audience to new emotions and ideas.

We wish to congratulate our films in competition on their achievements. We also wish to thank the filmmakers of the 17 films screening at this year’s festival as Director’s Choice films. Quentin Tarentino once said, “If you want to make a movie, make it. Don’t wait for a grant, don’t wait for the perfect circumstances, just make it.” All of the filmmakers exhibiting in our festival have had to overcome obstacles and make personal sacrifices to bring their films to this screen. The Underexposed Film Festival YC is proud to share these films with our audience. We are delighted to expose you to these fresh new voices.
