A FESTIVAL
YOU DO
curated by Gillie Kleiman a festival of contemporary dance
an invitation to collaborate 27 - 30 October 2016, Leeds
www.juncturedance.com
We know that everybody dances The community dance movement, folk dance,YouTube dance classes and Strictly all tell us the same thing: everybody dances. Departing from here, this third edition of Juncture, curated by Gillie Kleiman, collects artworks where the role of professional dancer is given to someone else, bringing artists, participants and their shared work into conversation about what happens when the dancing is handed over. Juncture was first curated for Yorkshire Dance in 2012 by Charlotte Vincent in an initiative designed to bring new work, professional development, critical debate and innovative performance practice to Yorkshire. Juncture 2014 was curated by Wendy Houstoun. Š Camilla Greenwell
Gillie Kleiman is an artist. From her practice of dance and choreography emerge artworks that manifest as performances, texts, and events, presented in contexts associated with dance, theatre, live art and experimental performance.

A durational movement installation based around bodies constructing sculptural forms. Using choreographic instructions participants will explore how simple patterning can encourage the transformation of the human form. With an interest in adapting swarm principles for live performance and looking at the body as sculpture, Swarm Sculptures is a return to simplicity and communal activity that produces mesmerizing actions and patterns.

Do you have a song you love to dance to? Would you like to take part in a dance film? Filmmaker Sara Lindström is making a short film of people dancing to their favourite song. The film will take a look at why dancing to a song we love is so joyful. What and how you dance is up to you – it’s YOUR dance we’d like to film! Through simple creative tasks led by Sara you’ll be guided into moving in front of the camera and we will film your dance. Then we would like to do a short voice interview to find out a bit more about your relation to your chosen song. We’ll need about an hour of your time, but if you’d like to come and dance with a friend or your whole family, we can schedule in more time.

Assembly is a live artwork which will explore how we see and relate to other people as individuals and as parts in a crowd. During the performance a connection will be established between each spectator and a particular performer, and at the same time the performers will work together to create simple group formations which periodically transform into new arrangements. Spectators will be free to come and go throughout the duration of Assembly.

Laura Laura is a dance performance for two, a messed-up manifesto on gender based on research into female performers in pop music. It is grounded in our love of music, our disgust at the promotion of oppressive stereotypes in mainstream culture used as a vehicle for systematic misogyny, and our belief in live performance as a potential site of resistance. immigrants and animals are inviting two other people to join us in performing a double bill of Laura Laura entitled Laura Laura Double Penetration. We will spend some days together sharing the score (structure) of Laura Laura and our thoughts and motivations for the dances.
