Welcome to Yorkshire Dance. Every week, around 700 people come to Yorkshire Dance to take part in one of our classes and courses.

Classes are drop-in sessions that you can join at any point during the season.

Expert teachers, beautiful studios and outstanding facilities make Yorkshire Dance the perfect place to dance. Our classes and courses cater for all ages and levels of ability - from absolute beginners to dance professionals - and offer a safe, supportive and fun environment in which to dance. Most of our classes are suitable for anyone aged 12 and up. We also run a number of classes specifically designed for people aged 50 and over, for adults with learning disabilities, and a brilliant Saturday programme for children aged 0 - 12.

Sensual and dynamic, this class for women of all ages, sizes and levels of fitness teaches you to move your hips the Middle Eastern way. Learn a mix of modern Egyptian style and old traditional moves. Arabic Dance helps strengthen core muscles, corrects poor posture and increases flexibility, as well as increasing self confidence. The Level A class is suitable for everyone, and will improve strength, fitness and technique. The friendly Beginner Ballet is suitable

for those with little or no experience. The class begins with a series of exercises at the barre, progressing to travelling movements. Learn turns and balances to improve co-ordination, and jumps to help build stamina and fitness. The more advanced Continuation Ballet begins with a structured series of exercises which strengthen muscles and increase flexibility, working to perfect the fundamental elements of Classical Ballet technique. Bharatnatyam, the National Dance of India, a classic form originating in Tamil Nadu, a state in Southern India. The most ancient of all the classical Indian dance styles, it has evolved from the art of temple dancers.

appears very similar to Bharatnatyam but is much more fluid, focusing on the fine art of balance and movement using a brass plate and a clay pot. Garba, a folk dance from Gujarat, traditionally danced at marriages and during the time of Navaratri (nine nights of dance) before the celebration of Diwali. Kolata (stick dance), a folk dance form from South India. It is a type of battle dance performed in groups.

Creative dance for supported adults with learning disabilities. A chance for adults and support workers and carers to work and dance together in a relaxed, safe environment. Wake up your muscles on a Monday morning!

A course tailor-made for participants aged 50 and over. A brilliant place to socialise and keep active and fit.You’ll experience working as a whole group, in smaller groups, in pairs and as individuals. There are opportunities to perform and share your work, and to explore the processes of choreography and improvisation.

Yorkshire Dance Youth Crew: ‘Shaolin Shadows’ Level A (under 18s): Sat, 3.45pm – 5.45pm with Shane Fenton There’s more to being a member of the Shaolin Shadows than learning breakdance.Your crew represents Leeds. Get ready to perform. Get ready to battle with crews from all over the UK. It’s hard work, you’ll need to practise outside of the weekly sessions, and you’ll need to be committed to the crew. It’s not just a class, it’s a lifestyle. Leeds is the home of Young Guns, a regular national celebration of breakdance where Shaolin Shadows is on home turf. Step up. Places in Shaolin Shadows will be allocated through auditions during the first two sessions of the autumn term:

Finding Yorkshire Dance Yorkshire Dance is situated in the cultural quarter of Leeds city centre, opposite the BBC building and Leeds College of Music, next to the Wardrobe bar and two minutes’ walk from Leeds city bus station and 15 minutes’ walk from the train station. There is limited on-street parking outside Yorkshire Dance, but there are plenty of public car parks within easy walking distance.
