Friday 1 November, 7.30pm Admission £8.00, concessions £6.00 We welcome to Leeds some of the most exciting artists working with dance agencies in Scotland and the North of England, and artists selected from our own region. What’s Love Got To Do With It? by Hull-based Non Applicables explores the realms of love and all its possibilities and pitfalls. Mingle through the dating circuit in a series of fragmented experiences and light-hearted episodes that observe social etiquette, online profiles and the fundamental rules of dating. Joelene English’s February 11th 1963 is a poignant evocation of the last days of Sylvia Plath’s life, and an exploration of her relationship with her husband, the poet Ted Hughes. Daniela B Larsen & Robert Guy’s This House Smells of Ghosts has been described by critics as “startling athletic choreography” with “nonchalant, raw execution.” Tamsyn Russell’s ID Me is an experiment in movement language and performance. Three female performers work with a process of investigation into hidden identities. Through exposing thoughts and images rarely expressed yet deeply embodied in their movement memory, they explore the question: Is this really who we are or just a glimpse of a corner of our minds?

Arrivals
Yorkshire Dance and Northern School of Contemporary Dance present Arrivals / Departures, a weekend of performances, workshops and conversations exploring the possibilities for artists from the north of England working in Europe and vice versa. Arrivals features the premiere of the new work by Igor and Moreno, an Italian/Hungarian dance duet based in London, alongside one work from a Yorkshire-based artist. Jordan Massarella Dance’s Wannabe documents the rise and fall of 90s pop starlet Just Jane and her ongoing quest for fame, fortune and fulfilment. Igor & Moreno present Idiot-Syncracy, to remind us of our ability to be happy, exploring all those things we desire and which often are within reach. Relentless, dynamic and constantly changing, it is a ritual for the times in which we live – serious, but witty; honest, but ironic.

Departures
Departures is a mixed bill featuring a variety of short works created by dance artists who have strong connections to Yorkshire, from recent graduates to established companies. Mad Dogs Dance Theatre’s Missing is a poignant portrayal of a couple struggling with the sudden loss of their child, living in a world where nothing feels meaningful. In Riccardo Meneghini’s i_Entity the dancer is “craftsman”, “artisan” and “producer” – reminding us that we are creators of our own lives; that we can change them, if we decide to. Carlos Pons Guerra’s DeNada Dance Theatre presents O Maria, a new tale of ham and frustrated desire from a stifling kitchen in Franco’s Seville, where a divine apparition unleashes a torrent of unquenchable passions. Life is a Carnival by Moreno Solinas (selected by the pan-European Aerowaves network as a ‘priority company’) is an auto-biographical solo. Moreno delves into his early training in Latin American dance, threading together fiery dance routines and evocative songs in a fastpaced, playful journey to his past.
