First Aid Sun 19 Sep, 1.00pm – 5.00pm Sun 10 Oct, 1.00pm – 5.00pm Sun 21 Nov, 1.00pm – 5.00pm Ability Level A Come and learn, explore, play and share creative ideas through movement. Fine-tune your senses and wake up your ability to listen and respond to what is happening in the moment. Sessions are directed by various leaders. See website for details. £4.50

Sun 19 Sep, 9.00am – 5.30pm Ability Level A An essential basic level First Aid course led by a registered tutor from Underwood Training. Cover a range of techniques including cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and learn how to deal with injuries that may confront you in dance or other practical class situations. You will receive a First Aid manual to take away and a certificate will be sent to you later. Lunch and refreshments provided – please inform us of any allergies. £60 / £52

Improvisation Exchange

Protein Dance Sun 26 Sep, 1.00pm – 6.00pm Ability Level A Award-winning Protein is looking for people of any age and level of experience to take part in the creation of a new piece, L.O.L (lots of love). Protein takes everyday issues and subjects them to a deep, witty analysis through idiosyncratic and distinctive dance theatre. For its new piece, Protein explores the promises of an online life and the complexity of real relationships, to put love, wanting and Continues overleaf...


connectedness centre-stage. L.O.L (lots of love) dissects the effect of electronic communication on our relationship attitudes, uncovering the potential for an evolutionary shift in the way we live, love one another and belong to society in general. L.O.L (lots of love) will be presented at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in February 2011.  You can contribute to the creation of the piece by sharing your stories of online experiences with choreographer Luca Silvestrini and award-winning film-maker Rachel Davies in a full afternoon’s workshop of dance and ideas.

DISGO with Fleur Darkin Company Wed 6 & Thu 7 Oct 10.00am – 4.00pm Ability Level D Dancers and performers with an interest in making work, a love of choreography and an individual, bold performance streak are invited to join the core cast of five international dancers in DISGO. The acclaimed company is returning to Leeds on its second tour of the adrenaline-filled intimate spectacle, performing at The


Carriageworks on Friday 8 October. In this residency you will do daily class and be immersed in the choreographic technologies that underpin the show. You will perform as part of the cast and play a critical role in the delivery and performance of the show as part of Leeds Light Night. Manuela Berndt Wed 20 – Fri 22 Oct, 10am – 4pm Ability Level C/D A 3-day intensive workshop for dance professionals and advanced students introducing Forsythe Improvisation and Real Time Choreography methods as valuable tools for movement generation and analysis. You will work with a series of exercises and movement combinations, improvisation tasks and compositional assignments to create individual, inventive and resourceful dance vocabulary, searching for sources within the body and the space around it. £30

RODA Workshop Sun 24 Oct, 11.00am – 6.00pm Ability Level D Expect great challenges and buckets of sweat. Andile Sotiya, Douglas Thorpe and Tiia Ourila, all ex-Phoenix dancers, will lead the day, starting with a contemporary class, followed by three workshops led by each of the RODA directors. Each has a different approach to movement and creating, but they share a desire for great physicality.  An excellent opportunity to challenge your skills in a buzzing, inspiring atmosphere. £12 / £10

Dancing the Movies with Sarah Mellor Sun 31 Oct, 12 noon – 3.00pm Ability Level A Celebrate your favourite dirty dance movie with this fabulous workshop inspired by the legendary moves of Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. Get your friends together, get your places booked; we’ll turn up the soundtrack and turn up the heat. You’ll have the time of your life. £18 / £16

with Gerry Turvey & Kim Gregory Sun 7 Nov, 11.00am – 5.00pm Ability Level D A practical training workshop for professionals and community dance teachers and practitioners, with an emphasis on developing good practice in the field of dance and mental health. Learn to use creativity to build positive frameworks for good practice in community dance, and how this can improve vulnerable adults’ well-being. Finding Yorkshire Dance Yorkshire Dance is situated in the cultural quarter of Leeds city centre, opposite the BBC building and Leeds College of Music, next to the Wardrobe bar, two minutes’ walk from Leeds city bus station and 15 minutes’ walk from the train station. There is limited on-street parking outside Yorkshire Dance, but there are plenty of public car parks within easy walking distance.

Refund policy

Yorkshire Dance is grateful for your contribution to the safe, friendly atmosphere of the building. To protect our staff, teachers and all our visitors from verbal and physical abuse, we reserve the right to refuse entry.

If you arrive more than 15 minutes late for a workshop, Yorkshire Dance may have to refuse you entry. This is to protect you from the possibility of injury through insufficient time warming up with the rest of the group and to avoid disrupting the class.
