Candoco Moving Bodies Artist Development Day Sun 10 Jan, 10.30am – 5.00pm Ability Level D Second annual development day for dancers and dance makers interested in inclusive practice and diversity, building on Candoco’s questioning who can dance and what dance might be. A morning class is followed by exercises and discussions about how we might develop the artistry of inclusive dance practice in Yorkshire. Hip Hop Styles Sun 10 Jan, 10.00am – 11.30am Ability Level A (ages 7 – 11) and Sun 10 Jan, 12.00pm – 2.00pm Ability Level A (for adults) Get to grips with the essentials of all the major Hip Hop dance styles. Try out the signature moves of krumping, lockin’ and poppin’, breakin’ and house with our very own bboy Banksy. £10 / £8

First Aid Sun 17 Jan, 9.00am – 5.30pm Ability Level A An essential basic level First Aid course led by a registered tutor from Underwood Training. Cover a range of techniques including cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and learn how to deal with injuries that may confront you in dance or other practical class situations. You will receive a First Aid certificate and a manual to take away. Lunch and refreshments provided – please inform us of any allergies. £60 / £52

with Element Dance Sun 7 Feb, 11.00am – 3.00pm Ability Level A Perfect for anyone who enjoys Latin vibes. A conditioning warm-up is followed by some serious technique training. Then work towards a jazzy salsa routine of the hottest Latin moves fused with contemporary dance. Element Dance’s Ella Mesma offers a rigorous workshop with a splash of carnival glamour. £18 / £16

Choreographic Workshop with Laïla Diallo Sun 17 Jan, 11.00am – 4.00pm Ability Level D Choreographer and dancer Laïla Diallo explores some of the questions and interests at the forefront of her practice. Offering time to fine-tune our sense of connection to the space, to movement pathways through the body and to our relationship to others, the session will develop to provide a practical experience of some tools Laïla uses to stimulate creativity. £20 / £18

Burlesque with Ministry of Burlesque Academy Sun 7 Feb, 1.00pm – 6.00pm Ability Level A (for ages 18+) Slip on your seamed stockings and opera gloves as Gypsy Charms and Viva Misadventure lead you through the glamorous world of burlesque. Uncover your inner siren and learn the tantalising art of ‘tease’, tassel-twirling and burlesque bump ‘n’ grind. And don’t worry – no nudity required... Early booking required. Sun 21 Feb, 10.00am – 5.00pm Ability Level D A day of dancing: expect great challenges and buckets of sweat. Andile Sotiya, Douglas Thorpe and Tiia Ourila, all ex-Phoenix dancers, will lead the day, starting with a contemporary class, followed by three workshops led by each of the RODA directors. Each has a different approach to movement and creating, but they share a desire for great physicality. An excellent opportunity to challenge your dancing skills in a buzzing, inspiring atmosphere. £10 / £8

Fan Dancing with Ministry of Burlesque Academy Sun 21 Feb, 1.00pm – 6.00pm Ability Level A (for ages 18+) Cast aside your inhibitions as you learn skills from original Burlesque fan dancing to cabaret-styles synonymous with the Parisian and Las Vegas revue shows. Using large feather fans, you will learn to ‘hide and reveal’, teasing your audience by never showing too much. And still no nudity required! Introduction to
Clog Dancing with Hannah James Sun 21 Mar, 10.00am – 1.00pm Ability Level A This traditional English dance form, thought to have originated in mills and factories, is fast re-gaining popularity and appearing in modern, cross-genre dance productions, swapping traditional folk tunes for hip hop beats. Hannah is a champion dancer with the award winning Demon Barber Roadshow. Clogs will be provided, but please book at least a week in advance, and tell us your shoe-size. £10 / £8

Finding Yorkshire Dance Yorkshire Dance is situated in the cultural quarter of Leeds city centre, opposite the BBC building and Leeds College of Music, next to the Wardrobe bar, two minutes’ walk from Leeds city bus station and 15 minutes’ walk from the train station. There is limited on-street parking outside Yorkshire Dance, but there are plenty of public car parks within easy walking distance.

Yorkshire Dance is grateful for your contribution to the safe, friendly atmosphere of the building. To protect our staff, teachers and all our visitors from verbal and physical abuse, we reserve the right to refuse entry.
If you arrive more than 15 minutes late for a workshop, Yorkshire Dance may have to refuse you entry. This is to protect you from the possibility of injury through insufficient time warming up with the rest of the group and to avoid disrupting the class.
