Improvisation Exchange

Rio de Janeiro’s Companhia de Dança Deborah Colker is performing its latest awe-inspiring dancework, Cruel, at Bradford Alhambra on Fri 7 and Sat 8 May.

Hype Dance Sun 16 May, 2.00pm – 4.00pm Ability Level C A brilliant opportunity to develop your Hip Hop Dance skills and explore the creation of Hip Hop Dance choreography. If you have some dance and choreography experience and are ready to try out new ideas, this is for you. It is particularly aimed at dance artists, dance teachers, dance practitioners and out of school activity providers. Please wear trainers. £10 / £8

Choreographic Workshop with Janet Smith Sun 23 May, 11.00am – 4.00pm Ability Level D Janet Smith, internationally acclaimed choreographer and Artistic Director of Scottish Dance Theatre, shares some of her choreographic starting points and guides you towards applying them to your own work. This playful workshop focuses on new approaches to enliven, refresh and inform the choreographic process. For dance artists, dance teachers and community dance practitioners. £20 / £18

with Ministry of Burlesque Academy Sun 23 May, 1.00pm – 6.00pm Ability Level A (for ages 18+) Slip on your seamed stockings and opera gloves as Gypsy Charms and Viva Misadventure lead you through the glamorous world of burlesque. Uncover your inner siren and learn the tantalising art of ‘tease’, tassel-twirling and burlesque bump ‘n’ grind.  And don’t worry – no nudity required... Early booking required. Zumba Workshop with Leonor Camacho Element Dance Sun 6 Jun, 1.00pm – 3.45pm Ability Level A Get a taste of Latin America’s latest – and most infectious – dance craze. It’s simple: get fit, have fun. Zumba’s the aerobic workout that feels like a party in Havana, using four basic rhythms based on simplified versions of salsa, merengue, cumbia and reggaeton. It’s been described as “a great way to find pure happiness.” Come and find out why... £12 / £10

Fan Dancing with Ministry of Burlesque Academy Sun 20 Jun, 1.00pm – 6.00pm Ability Level A (for ages 18+) Cast aside your inhibitions as you learn skills from original Burlesque fan dancing to cabaret-styles synonymous with the Parisian and Las Vegas revue shows. Using large feather fans, you will learn to ‘hide and reveal’, teasing your audience by never showing too much. And still no nudity required! Please wear comfortable clothing and bring small heels. Only 18 places available. £25 / £22

Solo Performance Practice with Rachel Krische Sun 4 Jul, 11.00am – 4.00pm Ability Level D A fantastic opportunity to work with accomplished dance artist Rachel Krische, one of the UK’s most experienced performers. Her work includes collaborations with many companies and artists including Akram Khan, La Ribot and Wendy Houstoun. This workshop focusses on the making and devising process of Deborah Hay’s solo The Swimmer which Rachel has been performing at UK and international festivals. £20 / £18

Finding Yorkshire Dance Yorkshire Dance is situated in the cultural quarter of Leeds city centre, opposite the BBC building and Leeds College of Music, next to the Wardrobe bar, two minutes’ walk from Leeds city bus station and 15 minutes’ walk from the train station. There is limited on-street parking outside Yorkshire Dance, but there are plenty of public car parks within easy walking distance.

Refund policy

Yorkshire Dance is grateful for your contribution to the safe, friendly atmosphere of the building. To protect our staff, teachers and all our visitors from verbal and physical abuse, we reserve the right to refuse entry.

If you arrive more than 15 minutes late for a workshop, Yorkshire Dance may have to refuse you entry. This is to protect you from the possibility of injury through insufficient time warming up with the rest of the group and to avoid disrupting the class.
