seed temperature is too high and grain initially within safe moisture and temperature levels can still spoil due to hot spots forming and moisture migration within the grain bin. Grain acts like an insulator and can hold temperatures for a fair amount of time if left undisturbed. Actually, it is not uncommon for larger bins to have grain temperatures in the centre that have not changed much since harvest, though it is close to freezing outside the bin.

Moisture migration occurs when warm and or moist grain in the bin is at a warmer temperature than the temperature outside the bin, as a result cold air moves

down the interior of the bin to the bottom of the grain mass and is drawn to the centre of the bin by an upward flow of warmer air.

As the cold air is drawn up the grain, it warms and flows to the surface of the grain. The warm air is cooled as it reaches the surface, condenses, and the cycle repeats. The condensation that occurs at the top of the grain creates a high moisture zone that is prone to spoilage and mold growth. Some fungal species can grow at relatively low seed moisture contents, and their growth results in the production of moisture, which allows other more harmful fungal species to

develop. Grain spoilage is relatively undetectable in early stages. Cooling the grain to under minus eight degrees Celsius will deactivate mold growth.

For insects, temperatures below 18 degrees Celsius limit their movement and reproduction.

In the fall or winter, moving the grain during cold weather can help to decrease the temperature in the bin, eliminating hot spots and can kill grain storage insects depending how much the grain temperature is lowered and for how long.

A variety of methods exist to monitor stored grain; a monitor that continually records the temperature of the stored

In a large bowl, combine potatoes, onion, ham and Cheddar cheese. Add mushroom soup, milk and parsley flakes. Mix well to combine. Fold in eggs.

Spread mixture into prepared baking dish.

Bake for 45 minutes.

Place baking dish on a wire rack and let set 5 minutes. Divide into 4

servings.

HINT: Raw shredded potatoes, rinsed and patted dry, may be used in place of frozen potatoes.

Heat oven to 350 F.

Monitor multiple times a week for changes in grain temperature. Pay close attention to grain in large bins and grain bags, especially where grain is tough and damp.

Other venues will be introduced if and when this jackpot grows. There will be a consolation winner every week and eventually when the “Ace of Hearts” is drawn the jackpot will be awarded and the process will start again.

HOLLYWOOD — The just released film “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is from the mind of J.K. Rowling, who created it as a prequel to her “Harry Potter” franchise. The film stars Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne.

However, Redmayne didn’t want to commit himself to the four sequels that are planned, so Johnny Depp was cast in a cameo role that could be expanded to the sequels. It looks like Redmayne hasn’t changed his mind, because Depp has been announced for the first sequel, which starts shooting next year.

Depp’s recent track record hasn’t been too good. In 2013 he had two films, “The Lone Ranger” and “Transcendence,” which barely made their budget back. In 2015,

as Hercule Poirot, with a star-studded cast of Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman, Sean Connery, John Gielgud, Vanessa Redgrave and Richard Widmark, among others. So who has been announced as Depp’s costar? Josh Gad!

Johnny Depp “Mortdecai” was a dismal failure, despite having Gwyneth Paltrow as his co-star, and “Black Mass” was less than a success. And though “Alice in Wonderland” made more than $1 billion, the sequel made only $300 million, at a cost of $120 million.

Next year we’ll see “Pirates of the Caribbean” in May, followed by the remake of Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express,” coming Nov. 17. The original starred Albert Finney

Then we’ll get the “Fantastic Beasts” sequel in November 2018.

It’s sure to be foolproof, like the “Caribbean” franchise has been. Look for Depp to announce other projects as he tries to forget the failure of his marriage to Amber Heard.

Warren Beatty ends his 15-year absence from moviemaking with his new film, “Rules Don’t Apply.” His last film, “Town & Country” (2001), starred Beatty with Diane Keaton, Goldie Hawn, Garry Shandling, Andie McDowell and Charlton Heston.

The film’s release was delayed three years because

of script rewrites, production delays and losing cast members for reshoots because of the delays. The final cost was $90 million, with earnings of only $10.4 million.

The negative reviews devastated Beatty, causing a lack of enthusiasm to make another film.

He’s written, produced, directed and starred in his new film, with Annette Bening (his wife), Matthew Broderick, Lili Collins, Alec Baldwin, Candice Bergen, Dabney Coleman, Ed Harris and Martin Sheen. Beatty, 79, playing Howard Hughes in his 50s, forbids a young actress, under contract to him, from having a relationship with her driver, his employee. Hopefully, he’ll be able to recoup his $26.7 million budget on this one. Beatty’s always been able to NOT make the rules apply to him, but can he shave 25 years off his looks? MAKE-UP! (CGI?)

DEAR PAW’S CORNER: I know you warn people every holiday season about the dangers of their pets ingesting certain foods, like chocolate, onions and grapes. I wanted to share my experience from last Thanksgiving, when my terrier, “Blake,” sneaked into the kitchen and started eating leftovers off of plates piled on the counter.

We were alerted by the crash of several plates onto the floor.

Fortunately, we stopped Blake from trying to lick up spilled food amid the shattered dishes, but he had eaten a lot of highfat foods — stuffing, gravy, you name it — that were loaded with spices, onions and other ingredients.

I kept a close eye on Blake over the next several hours, and made sure the emergency vet’s number was on hand.

Sure enough, Blake started looking lethargic and vomited; we put him in the car and drove right to the vet. Because I called ahead, they were able to treat him immediately, and he recovered without any lasting problems.

DEAR DR. ROACH: I am a reasonably healthy 66-year-old male. I walk 5 miles a day. I have no knee problems. My doctor says I am walking too much and will wear out my knees. Do you agree? — M.D. ANSWER: No, I don’t agree at all. I think I understand why your doctor said that: osteoarthritis, the most common arthritis in the knee, used to be considered a wear-and-tear injury, and if that were the case it might make sense to protect your joints by not overdoing it. However, we believe now that osteoarthritis is caused by an injury to the joint, not by regular exercise.

More importantly, studies show clearly that people who are very active don’t have higher arthritis rates than sedentary people. Most important of all, people with osteoarthritis who exercise get better, not only in pain and stiffness levels, but also in ability to walk.

Exercise is so good for your body, mind and spirit that this persistent

myth needs to be corrected.

DEAR DR. ROACH: When I was 60, my doctor told me to take a baby aspirin daily to prevent heart attack and stroke.

So I did. When I was 70, a new doctor said the risk wasn’t worth the benefit, so I stopped. I heard and read a lot more about the benefits of aspirin. But a friend of mine had a horrific nosebleed that was thought to be from the aspirin.

I and a few of my senior friends are confused. Should we or shouldn’t we take aspirin? — A.H. ANSWER: When you see multiple opinions on a topic in medicine, it usually means there is conflicting evidence, and that certainly is the case with aspirin. The difference of opinion takes place at the highest levels: the United States Food and Drug Administration recommends, in general, against using aspirin

to prevent heart attack and stroke in people who have not already had a heart attack or stroke. However, the US Preventive Services Task Force recommends aspirin in general for men age 45-79 and women age 55-79. The USPSTF makes no recommendation about men or women over age 79. Both groups agree that your physician should be helping you make the decision about whether to take aspirin.

Aspirin has the risk of causing bleeding, and the bleeding can be more serious than a nosebleed.

A bleed inside the stomach or intestines can be life-threatening, and there also is a very small risk of bleeding in the brain.

As a physician, I prescribe aspirin for those at increased risk based on multiple factors, and do not prescribe aspirin to people at high risk of a gastrointestinal bleed.

This is a judgment call about which physicians may differ.

There is something undeniable about Tony Romo. He is all but universally beloved by anybody who has ever coached or played with him. As the franchise face for America’s Team, his mug gets plastered on both sporting and celebrity gossip magazines alike. But you know, he’s got a bad back and he has yet “to win the big one.”

“Yet to win the big one” is perhaps the most damning thing you can say about an NFL quarterback, particularly when you’re a Dallas Cowboy and have to live up to legendary names like Don Meredith, Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman. And it’s

something that Romo has heard a lot. People are always unsure about him. Is he a fearless playmaker, or is he a guy who makes bad decisions and refuses to stick to the script?

Well, we may never know that answer, at least not in Dallas, because a new story is being written there as we speak

Prescott is accustomed to rewrites. He rewrote Mississippi State’s record book, setting 38 school records and setting the record for most passing yards in Orange Bowl history. Picked in the fourth round by the Cowboys in 2016, he broke the rookie record for most completions without an interception as a rookie, a record once held by a guy named Tom Brady ... a guy who didn’t break 38

records at Michigan.

Prescott plays like the pro he is every week, he plays as if he’s been there before, and he plays like a leader who will take you places that you’ve never been before. When you can orchestrate not one, but two gamewinning full-field drives to come from behind at Pittsburgh, you are treading on untouched real estate. But that is, of course, exactly what Prescott did.

The Cowboys as a franchise know how to deal with the press. While more than a few players aren’t smart enough to keep their names out of the police blotter, they know better than to tip their hand regarding the quarterback situation.

“I’ll let those in charge of making that decision make that decision” is the common refrain. The team’s larger-than-life

owner is a near-obsessive fan of Tony Romo.

(He has gone on record saying that he would be heartbroken if he didn’t win Romo a championship. Huh? Shouldn’t that be the other way around?) Even he had to begrudgingly admit that

the team had to go with “the hot hand.”

The aforementioned hand is Prescott’s, and no doubt about it, it is scorching hot. Romo may be burning to get back into the game, but with each passing win — and I do mean “passing” win —

the more it appears that we will be seeing Romo in another uniform come next fall. Time waits for no one, and in the NFL, you’re only as good as your backup’s first game.

Illumination Studios (“Despicable Me,” plus the sequels and “Minions” spin-off) has a long way to go before denting the Pixar and Dreamworks juggernauts, but this feature has enough direction and humor to rise above the crowded field of derivative talking CG-critters.

“Jason Bourne” (R) — In the fifth installment, Matt Damon’s forgetful secret agent is still kicking, but it’s not entirely clear why ... or why we need to continue caring. Bourne, now lying low in Greece, finds out that his father was apparently involved in the sinister government program that made him a killing machine. Now on a renewed quest for the truth and targeted by yet another wrinkled spymaster (Tommy Lee Jones in this one), Bourne once again must punch, drive and shoot his way to the answers he seeks.

Director Paul Greengrass re-takes the reins for this one, but there’s no bringing this character back to the

excitement and urgency of the first movies. The action set-pieces are still bare-knuckled and satisfying, especially the vehicular mayhem in Las Vegas.

“Don’t Think Twice” (R) — A improv-troupe of best friends finds that one member’s showbiz success creates a crisis for the rest of them.

Written and directed by veteran stand-up comic Mike Birbiglia, the movie is dripping with truth recognizable even to those nowhere near the professional comedy game.

Jack (Keegan MichaelPeele) is chosen to rise from the small stage of weekend improv to the big time of a SNL-type show. His supportive pals in the troupe (including Birbiglia, Gillian Jacobs, Kate Micucci and Chris Gethard) are in a difficult spot, congratulating their friend while wondering if they’ll ever get their chance.

A: The versatile actor you are thinking of is Tzi Ma, perhaps best known to American audiences as Cheng Zhi, the superbaddie villain in “24.” He also played Tao on “Hell on Wheels,” Zen Master/ Frank on “Satisfaction” and the Dragon on “Once Upon a Time.” You can

see him next as General Onoda on “The Man in the High Castle,” which premieres its second season Dec. 16 on Amazon.

I caught up with Tzi recently, and he told me about this new and exciting role.

“He is the new commander of the Pacific control region of the Japan Empire. The show

have the Japanese; you have the citizens who live in their territories. And then you have the resistance. So those are the basic groups of people.

This second season you will see there are some gray areas, particularly in the parallel universe.”

Tzi Ma is about if the Axis power had won the war, right?

So you have the East Coast occupied by Nazi Germany. The West Coast is occupied by Imperial Japan. And in the middle is the neutral zone. So, General Onoda is here to let the people know in this Pacific region that the Empire feels that Nazi Germany is going to make a move to basically swallow the entire North American continent. He is here to make sure that doesn’t happen.
