The final four; Josh Istace, and Chris Istance of Moosomin, runner-up Duncan Holness of Percival, and tournament winner Chris Hoyt of Regina.

Hoyt on fire at the Stockholm disc golf affair A fine June Sunday welcomed disc golfers to the annual Stockholm Tournament recently. The Living Skies Realty Ltd. Tournament, which attracted players from around the region, would see Chris Hoyt emerge the winner after an initial 18, and a final round that sent the top four golfers out in pursuit of the title. In the end Hoyt, from Regina, would record a stellar minus-9, 81, through 27, for a comfortable sixstroke win over Duncan Holness of Percival, SK. Holness shot an 87. Chris Istace of

Moosomin finished third with a minus-two 88, one better than his son Josh Istace at 89, minus-one. Hoyt said even with a nice day the Stockholm course is a challenge. “The course is very technical for Saskatchewan,” he said. “In Regina you can throw a disc and even if you miss your line by 30 degrees you can still save par pretty easily. “In Stockholm if you miss your line by that much you are hitting a tree or going OB, (out-of-bounds), meaning your shots have to be much more accurate. Hole 8 in particular

there is a tree at the tee box that makes the throw much harder than the hole would otherwise be.” So Hoyt played the course relying on his strengths to carry the day, and that means the ability to throw long; he also took home the Yorkton Dodge Best Drive award with a throw of 375-feet on number-four. “I have become notorious for my long drives, and I think the rest of my game has benefited from that,” he said. “I think a fair statement to say that when you can throw longer, it makes those shorter distances easier to hit and I think that showed through today.” And the rest of Hoyt’s game followed as he quickly took the tourney lead and held it throughout. “I was on fire at the tournament, my putting was really dialled-in and

let me make those shots from 20-25-feet that I normally would have missed. The less windy weather this year helped too,” he said. The top two finishers at the Living Skies Realty Ltd. Tournament, as PADG members, earn spots in the Farrell Agencies Champions Challenge, to be held at Asessippi Beach and Campground Oct. 15. In addition to the final four, a number of other special awards were handed out. The Asessippi Beach and Campground Closest to the Pin award going to Holness. Josh Gregory also had a chance at the Fountain Tire Putting Award, but missed all three tries to get a disc putter through a tire. — Submitted by the Parkland Association of Disc Golf

Cast a line during free fishing weekend “The Free Fishing Weekend is an excellent chance for people to get out and enjoy fishing with friends and family on some of our province’s exceptional lakes and waterways,” says Darrell Crabbe, Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation. With nearly 100,000 lakes and rivers,

Saskatchewan boasts some of the best freshwater fishing in the world. Close to 250,000 anglers participate in recreational fishing each year, including more than 40,000 out-of-province anglers. Almost 70 different species of fish inhabit the province’s lakes, rivers and streams. Northern pike and walleye are common species throughout the province, with an abundance of yellow perch in the south and central fishing zones. Northern lakes teem with walleye, Arctic grayling, northern pike and lake trout.

National Parks are not included in the Free Fishing Weekend opportunities, and anyone planning to transport fish out of the province must purchase a license. All other fishing regulations apply, including possession limits and reduced limits on some lakes and rivers. Be sure to reference the 2017 Anglers’ Guide for full details. The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation wants people to enjoy boating and angling on Saskatchewan’s lakes and reminds

Classic_PaintlessFC_1x25.i25_ R0011405350.indd/prod2/kj/ earlug June 2/17 Aug. everyone to -be safe 25/17 in their recreational

activities and to practice safe boating. And just like the Canadian Safe Boating Council says, wearing a lifejacket is even more important than wearing your ‘lucky fishing hat’. But they do share one trait – they both have to be worn to be effective. More information about fishing in Saskatchewan can be found in the 2017 Anglers’ Guide, available wherever fishing licenses are sold, or online at www. swf.sk.ca/resources/for-anglers and www. saskatchewan.ca/fishing.

Majority of crops ahead of usual With the recent rainfall across the province in the past week, crop development has improved. The warm and wet weather was welcomed in areas that were experiencing moisture stress. Eighty-eight per cent of fall cereals, 60 per cent of spring cereals, 56 per cent of oilseeds and 70 per cent of pulse crops are at or ahead of their normal stages of development for this time of year, according to Saskatchewan Agriculture’s Weekly Crop Report. Most of the province received rain in the past week, ranging from trace amounts to 112 mm, with a provincial

average of 26 mm. Across the province, cropland topsoil moisture is rated as 10 per cent surplus, 68 per cent adequate, 18 per cent short and four per cent very short. Hay land and pasture topsoil moisture is rated as eight per cent surplus, 60 per cent adequate, 24 per cent short and eight per cent very short. Topsoil moisture is lowest in the area south of Assiniboia (Crop District 3ASW), where 90 per cent of the cropland, hay land and pasture are short to very short of moisture, followed by the area around Shaunavon (crop districts 3BS and 4A), where 60 per cent of cropland and 84

and 80 per cent of hay land and pasture, respectively, are short to very short of moisture. The wettest crop districts are in the northwest (crop districts 9AE and 9B), where 45 and 46 per cent, respectively, of cropland and 40 and 35 per cent, respectively, of hay land and pasture have surplus topsoil moisture. Persistently strong winds have damaged crops and delayed in-crop weed control in many areas. Cutworms, flea beetles, localized flooding, and lack of moisture continue to damage crops. Producers are busy controlling weeds when they can and preparing for haying.

Cattle have been moved to pasture.

Celebrate Canada Day in a provincial park There is no better venue to enjoy Canada Day than a Saskatchewan provincial park. To celebrate this special day and Canada’s 150th Birthday, the parks will be offering free entry on July 1. “Saskatchewan’s provincial parks are where people go to make memories and connect with family and friends,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said.

“With countless activities, great amenities and a variety of programs, I invite everyone to enjoy their Canada Day in a Saskatchewan provincial park.” During Canada Day, each park will celebrate in their own way, but some activities include pancake breakfasts, parades, face painting, sandcastle competitions, cake, concerts and other daytime

Canada Day seedlings This year the SaskPower Shand Greenhouse program, in partnership with the Yorkton Canada Day committee, has donated 4000 seedlings in celebration of Canada Day. These trees are available for everyone and can be picked up from Tourism Yorkton Visitor Information Centre starting June 29. The seedlings will also be available on July 1 at the Yorkton Canada Day Good Old Fashioned Family Picnic, located at the Western Development Museum, from 12 - 4 p.m. This promotion will last until every tree has a home, so everyone is invited to visit Tourism Yorkton, located at the Junctions of Highways 9 and 16 and adopt a tree or two. What a great way to celebration Canada Day: Adopt a tree!

To continue the celebration this summer, Saskatchewan provincial parks will also be offering free entry on Canada’s Parks Day, July 15. For free entry to the

park on either of these two days, visitors are encouraged to stop at the park entry gate or park office to pick up their commemorative post cards, which can be displayed as a vehicle entry permit and then saved as a keepsake. risk of becoming infected. Consultation with an infectious disease expert certainly would be appropriate, if that were the case.

DEAR DR. ROACH: I had mitral valve prolapse for many years. In 2005, I got an infection, and it ended up as endocarditis. My mitral valve was not able to be repaired. I got a porcine valve. I am starting to have a little problem with my heart. Have you heard of a doctor doing a second replacement? My cardiologist says it is a really big deal. — J.L.F. ANSWER: Endocarditis is an exceedingly serious infection of the heart valves. It is much more likely in people who have damaged heart valves, such as from rheumatic fever, but it also can hap-

pen in people with normal heart valves. Endocarditis is treated with antibiotics, almost always intravenously to begin with, but complications such as an abscess or heart failure may require surgery, either repair or a valve replacement. I have seen many cases of replacement of a damaged prosthetic valve. As your cardiologist suggests, the risk of the operation is high. However, if the valve is very damaged, you don’t really have any other options. It is clear that the decision to replace a prosthetic valve is difficult and should be undertaken only if other treatments have failed. An experienced cardiac surgeon, hospital and entire team is critical. You didn’t say what the new problem with your heart is. A recurrence of infection is fairly common, since artificial valves, both bioprosthetic (like your porcine valve) and mechanical, are at higher

• On July 8, 1776, in Philadelphia, the Liberty Bell rings out, summoning citizens to the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence. Although the historic document was adopted on July 4, the bell was not rung until it returned from the printer. • On July 5, 1946, French designer Louis Reard unveils a daring two-piece swimsuit at a popular swimming pool in Paris. Reard dubbed the swimsuit the “bikini,” inspired by a news-making

U.S. atomic test off Bikini Atoll. • On July 4, 1957, Italian automaker Fiat debuts the “Nuova Cinquecento,” a redesigned version of a model it debuted in 1936. Fiat’s first 500-cc car, the “Il Topolino,” had space for two people and a top speed of 53 mph. • On July 3, 1969, Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones is found dead in the swimming pool at at his home in England. Two years later to the day, in 1971, Jim Morrison dies of heart failure in a Paris bathtub. Both were 27 years old. • On July 6, 1971, Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong, one of the most influen-

tial musicians of the 20th century, dies in New York City at age 69. A worldrenowned jazz trumpeter and vocalist, he pioneered jazz improvisation and the style known as swing. • On July 7, 1981, President Ronald Reagan nominates Sandra Day O’Connor, an Arizona court of appeals judge, to be the first woman Supreme Court justice. After the Senate unanimously approved her appointment, she was sworn in by Chief Justice Warren Burger on Sept. 25. • On July 9, 1993, British forensic scientists announce they have positively identified the remains of Russia’s last

ROACH: At age 45, I was diagnosed with bipolar II disorder. I am now 60 and have diligently taken medication, and I have never experienced the manic/depression swings associated with bipolar disease. I rarely hear anything about bipolar II. Can you tell me something about it? — D.T.

in common drastic changes in mood and behavior. Depression is the most common initial mood disorder in bipolar disorder. Bipolar I disorder is diagnosed when there are manic episodes. A manic episode is defined medically as an abnormal, persistently elevated mood with increased activity or energy, lasting at least a week. Feelings of increased self-esteem, decreased need for sleep, being unusually talkative, having racing ideas and distractibility are common. Spending sprees, sexual indiscretions and foolish investments sometimes happen during these episodes. In bipolar II, true manic episodes are not present. Depression always is, as is at least one episode of hypomania, which is similar to manic episodes but less severe or long-lasting. Bipolar II is probably underdiagnosed, partly because hypomania can

be hard to recognize. It is important to make the diagnosis, since treatment is different, and it is worth reconsidering the diagnosis if treatment is ineffective. Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer

individual letters, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. Readers may email questions to ToYourGoodHealth@med. cornell.edu. To view and order health pamphlets, visit www.rbmamall.com.

to tell you to delay making a decision until you’re sure there are no hidden problems that could cause trouble later on.

ARIES (March 21 to April 19) Be prepared to face some challenges stirred up by an envious colleague. Your best defense is the Arian’s innate honesty. Stick with the truth, and you’ll come out ahead. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) Your sensitivity to the needs of others is admirable. But be careful to avoid those who would take unfair advantage of your good nature, especially where money is involved. GEMINI (May 21 to

So my cousin Mike comes up to me at a funeral and says to me, “Yo, cousin Mark ... am I right about this? Tell me Jordan wasn’t the greatest of alltime? That the NBA is boring now.” Now, he asked in a New Jersey dialect, you must understand. He wasn’t asking me to tell him Michael Jordan wasn’t the greatest. He was seeking vindication for an argument and telling me in a passive-aggressive way to confirm the fact that Jordan was the greatest. I chose to go the opposite route. “Jordan wasn’t the greatest of all-time.” I took him at his word. That player, to me, will always be Kareem AbdulJabbar. But it wasn’t easy being Kareem; even he was swept out of the finals twice. The Jordan argument is always a valid one, and he is always on my first team, NBA Mount Rushmore. But this year’s Golden State Warriors team made me rethink the NBA. The ‘80s and ‘90s era was a glorious time for the NBA. Every single team had a poster-ready superstar, and the NBC games of

June 20) Having an optimistic attitude is fine, as far as it goes. But don’t be lulled into a false sense of confidence. There still are problems to deal with before you can totally relax. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) You might feel somewhat “crabby,” as you fuss over plans that don’t seem to work out. Maybe you’re trying too hard. Ease up and let things happen without forcing them. the week — punctuated by Marv Albert’s “Yes!” — were must-see TV. But the game was played differently. Basically, Jordan got the ball, wagged his tongue, broke somebody’s ankles, jumped in the air, flew about 20 feet and simply put the ball in the basket because he was right there. Then came the Kobe and hack-a-Shaq era, and people started to tune out. The NCAA became king. Well, this season has had people talking about the Golden State Warriors. They’re a superteam of superstars, and they play in a way that boggles the mind. I just don’t understand why people are complaining. These guys don’t do the Jordan thing ... they just sink the ball from anywhere on the court. It’s truly amazing to see. Steph Curry isn’t the greatest of all time ... but he’s one of the greatest shooters of all time. Yeah, he pinned a clown suit on LeBron James and acted

VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) This is a good time to reach out to those who might be nursing hurt feelings over recent events. Best advice: Ignore any pettiness that could delay the healing process. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) Your understanding helps a colleague get through a difficult period. Although you didn’t do it for a reward, be assured that your actions will be repaid down the line. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) You score some high marks in the workplace, which will count in your favor when

like a real villain lying on the side of the court, but there was no denying that he was fantastic, as was Kevin Durant. They went 16-1 in the playoffs — sparing LeBron the shame of sharing Kareem’s sweep record — and established themselves as being one of the greatest teams to ever take the court. Oakland drops the ball with this team. I get that you have to call them Golden State to appease the San Francisco market, but to me you have a city desperate to improve its reputation, and probably half the kids in America watching haven’t a clue where Golden State is. Even the Kings admit to being from Sacramento. Then again, they might want to tamp down on the riots before making a name change. Can people in America stop rioting over sports? In other countries, people riot over things like not getting enough food off the

Stay focused on it and avoid distractions that could throw off your aim and cause potentially detrimental delays. In your personal life, a family member again needs help. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) Paying attention to your work is important this week. But so are your relationships with those special people in your life. Make time for them as well. PISCES (February 19

Enough with the couch fires, America. So sorry, Mike ... Jordan may not be the best ever, but the lack of parity in the NBA shouldn’t overwhelm the fact that there’s great basketball being played. Lake Of The Prairies - North 61.5 sq. km.

L

ake of the Prairies is a large, long lake situated in both Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Originally, the lake was created as a water storage lake to manage the risk of flooding elsewhere. A great fishery has been an added bonus. Lake of the Prairies supports a high quality walleye fishery. Aside from the various perch, pike, bass, and carp, the big draw of the lake is walleye. In fact, Lake of the Prairies is now considered the second largest fishery in Manitoba, and one of the best walleye fisheries in Canada. John Boyd, from For Your Walleyes Only, says that how you fish Lake of the Prairies will change depending on several factors. “How and what to use depends on the time of year and weather conditions,” he advises. If it’s windy, while it may not be ideal conditions for anglers, it’s perfect for walleye. They’re far more active in wavy water, and in anything murky. They’re very sensitive to light, and wind, sediment and low light conditions are easier for them to manage. Boyd says that on windy days, bottom bouncers and spinners with leeches or night crawlers are good. That’s not to say that walleye can’t be caught on calm days. “On a calm day, trolling using Rapellas can be an option,” Boyd suggests. “I prefer vertical jigging using 1/8 oz chartreuse, orange, green or pink jigs with frozen minnows, leeches or crawlers.”

Unknown

425 metres (1,394 feet)

Boyd notes that underwater factors are important, too. “Structure plays a key role, and at Lake of the Prairies you have some great options.” Boyd has a few favourite spots for setting up for the day. He suggests that the Roblin Bridge is a good spot from May to June, but warns anglers to be careful of snags under the bridge. “The hydro lines south of the bridge have been known to be a good spot from May to July,” he adds. Boyd also likes a spot down the lake towards Pyotts, which he says fishes well in July and August. Also, north, by Togo Bridge, seems to be good from May to the end of June, he says. While walleye are the most popular target, they are by no means the only fish here.

Anyone who has spent time outdoors should be aware of the potential symptoms, which can include fever, rash (classic erethema migrans rash, also called ‘bull’s-eye rash’), facial paralysis, and arthritis. Some

people with later stage Lyme disease may have rashes on other areas of their bodies; intermittent pain in tendons, muscles and bones; and experience heart palpitations. LymeDisease.org states that not every person suffering from Lyme disease will develop the same symptoms. The distinctive rash occurs in less than 10 percent of those who contact Lyme. If a tick bite is verified, promptly contact a physician.

By Cindy Elavsky Q: I just got done watching season three of “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and of course, I watched it too quickly because now I’m going through some serious withdrawals. Please tell me that it will be back for another season! — Janet Y., Thunder Bay, Toronto, Canada A: Well I have good news for both of us, because I too adore this Netflix original series. The Tina Fey-produced comedy (Tina also plays the recurring character of Kimmy’s hilarious alcoholic ex-therapist) will return for a fourth season. I can’t wait to see whom they’ll get to guest-star next season, with stellar guest performances this season by Ray Liotta, Laura Dern, Peter Riegert, Jon Hamm, Josh Charles and Anna Camp. Q: I was reading that the “Lethal Weapon TV series is coming back for season two. Is it my imagination, or did they never finish season one? I don’t remember seeing an episode since just after Christmas. — Don H., Venice, Florida

A: The buddy-cop comedy, which stars Damon Wayans (“New Girl) and Clayne Crawford (“Rectify), will indeed be back for another season on FOX. Season one had a full-season 18-episode order, culminating in the March 15 season finale. When the show does return this fall, it will move from Wednesday to Tuesday night. You can watch full episodes of what you may have missed at fox.com. Q: How many seasons of “Longmire are there, and will there be any new ones? — Patricia R., via email A: There will be a total of six seasons of the crime thriller, which is set in Wyoming and centers on Sheriff Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor), who is trying to rebuild his life after the death of his wife. The current five seasons of the series — which originally aired on A&E until it

The 10-episode sixth and final season will air later this year, although Netflix, as of this writing, has yet to set a release date. Since season four, when Netflix picked up the series, “Longmire has premiered each new season in September, so odds are that season six will be a September baby as well. Correction: Thank you to reader Bob P., who let me know of an error in a previous column. A few weeks back, I wrote about director Fede Alvarez being tapped to direct “The Girl in the Spider’s Web, with “The Crown star Claire Foy in contention for the role of Lisbeth. “Spider’s Web is not the second book in the Millennium series, as I erroneously mentioned. It is the fourth book, which was written by David Lagercrantz, with permission from the estate of the late Stieg Larsson, who wrote the original trilogy: “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, “The Girl Who Played with Fire and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest. Write to Cindy at King Features Weekly Service, 628 Virginia Drive, Orlando, FL 32803; or e-mail her at letters@cindyelavsky.com. with sauce and cheese. HOLLYWOOD — “Wonder Woman” has been banned in Lebanon, where the film was pulled from theaters just hours before it was due to open. The Lebanese felt they couldn’t let Israeli Gal Gadot’s “Wonder Woman” be seen because, after all, they’re at war with Israel. This came as a shock to Warner Brothers because Gadot was one of the stars of “Batman vs Superman,” which was a big hit in Lebanon. The added fact is that Gadot is not only Israeli, but a woman, and women still are second-class citizens in that part of the world. It created a double-whammy that couldn’t be allowed! A strong Israeli woman who can overpower men is obviously unacceptable.

Fresh green beans are tossed with green and black soybeans — delicious, and good for you too. •1 pound green beans, trimmed and cut into 1-1/2inch lengths •1/2 (16-ounce) bag (1-1/2 cups) frozen shelled green soybeans (edamame)* •3 tablespoons extravirgin olive oil •1/4 cup balsamic vinegar •1/4 cup red wine vinegar •1 tablespoon sugar •1-1/2 teaspoons salt •1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper •1 can (15 ounces) black soybeans, rinsed and drained •1 can (15 ounces) pink beans, rinsed and drained •1 small red onion, finely chopped (1/2 cup) In a 12-inch skillet, heat 1/2-inch water to boiling over high heat. Add green beans and cook 5 minutes or until tender-crisp. Place frozen soybeans in colander; drain green beans over soybeans. Rinse with cold water until cool; drain well. Apparently, moviegoers did not want to see a fat and bald Matthew McConaughey, in “Gold,” judging from its $20 million cost and $10 million gross. His next two films are Stephen King’s sci-fi/ Western/horror film “The Dark Tower,” with Idris Elba, due Aug. 4, and “White Boy Rick,” with Oscar nominees Jennifer Jason Leigh, Bruce Dern and Piper Laurie, due in theaters Jan. 12, 2018. Could it be just a coincidence that both Johnny Depp (who has an estimated worth of $200 million) and Lisa Marie Presley (who has an estimated worth of $100 million) have both had stories in the tabloids claiming they are broke? Could that be because they are both

Traditional German fare comes to your kitchen Trying various types of food is not just for foodies who dine out several nights per week. Home cooks also can try their hands at cuisines from all over the world. Those who want to whip up some traditional and authentic German food can try the following recipe for “Swabian Stuffed Pasta” from Birgit Hamm and Linn Schmidt’s “Grandma’s German Cookbook” (DK Publishing). SWABIAN STUFFED PASTA Serves 4 to 6

•1 to 2 leeks •7-1⁄2 ounces dry cured salami •1 bunch flat-leaf parsley •1 pound, 2 ounces uncooked sausage meat •1 pound, 2 ounces mixed ground meat (such as veal and beef) •2 large eggs •Salt to taste •Pinch of black pepper •2.2 pounds fresh or frozen large pasta sheets, such as extra-large lasagna sheets To make the filling, wash and trim the leek

and slice it finely. Finely dice the salami. Wash the parsley and chop it finely. Put the uncooked sausage meat and mixed ground meat in a large bowl. Add the leek, parsley, smoked salami, and eggs and

knead the mixture thoroughly. Cook a bit of the mixture in a small frying pan to taste for seasoning. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Separate the sheets of pasta and lay them out on parchment paper. If needed, the cut the sheets so the sheets are square and about 20 x 28 inches in size, or as large as possible. Using a spatula, evenly spread a generous 1⁄3-inch of filling on each sheet. Next, just as though you were folding a piece of paper, starting at the narrowest edge of the pasta

sheet, fold it over carefully to create a strip 23⁄4 inches wide. Fold this strip over about two more times until all the pasta dough and its filling is folded together flat. This flat method of folding pasta sheets is characteristic of traditional maultaschen — Swabian stuffed pasta is not ravioli. Using a cup, press down very firmly on the filled dough approximately every 4 inches. Then, using a knife, cut squares about 3 x 4 inches in size around the rings you have made. Firmly pinch the cut edges together with your fingers.

Repeat until you have used up all the pasta sheets and filling. Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil. Gently place the meatfilled pouches in the water and cook them for 10 to 15 minutes. When they are done, remove them with a slotted spoon and keep them warm. Tip: Serve Swabian stuffed pasta in a beef broth. You can also serve them as a main course, warmed in melted butter and topped with pan-fried onions along with potato salad and a green salad.

Homemade pie crust made easy Pot pie makes for a delicious meal, especially when home cooks go the extra mile and prepare homemade pie crust. Some may be intimidated by the idea of making their own pie crusts, but the following recipe for “Turkey Vegetable Pot Pie with Whole-Wheat Crust” from Michelle Dudash’s “Clean Eating for Busy Families” (Fair Winds) simplifies that process, ensuring a fun and easy time cooking and, ultimately, a delicious meal. TURKEY VEGETABLE POT PIE WITH WHOLEWHEAT CRUST Serves 6 For the crust: •1 cup whole-wheat flour •1 cup all-purpose flour •1⁄4 teaspoon salt

•2⁄3 cup corn oil •1⁄3 cup orange juice For the filling: •1 carton condensed cream of chicken soup (organic preferred) •1⁄2 cup low-fat milk •1-1⁄4 pound boneless, skinless turkey breast, thinly sliced into bite-size pieces •1 cup thinly sliced carrots (or frozen sliced carrots, thawed) •1 cup leeks, quartered lengthwise, then thinly sliced crosswise, using white and pale green parts only •3⁄4 cup thinly sliced celery •1⁄2 cup frozen peas, thawed •3 tablespoons wholewheat flour •2 teaspoons dried herbes de

•Provence (or 1⁄2 teaspoon each thyme, rosemary and basil) •1⁄2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper •1⁄4 teaspoon salt To make the crust: Combine flours and salt in a medium bowl. Pour in oil and orange juice and stir until moistened. Press dough to flatten and chill. To make the filling: Blend soup and 1⁄2 cup of milk in a large bowl. Mix in the remaining ingredients.

Better deals on better water, pure and simple. ASK R ABOUT OU OR RENTAL

Preheat the oven to 350 F. Divide dough into 2 balls, one slightly larger than the other. Roll the larger ball between 2 large sheets of waxed paper until it is 1⁄8-inch-thick or until it fits in the bottom of a 9-inch pie pan. Remove the top sheet of waxed paper. Turn dough over and carefully place in the pie pan, removing remaining piece of waxed paper. Press out any bubbles and patch holes with scraps of dough. Pour filling into the prepared pan. Roll remaining dough and lay it on top. Cut any excess dough hanging from the edges and crimp the crust between your thumb and forefinger to seal. Cut a

heart into the center to allow steam to escape. Place the pie on a sheet pan and bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes, until center of crust becomes golden and an instant-read thermometer inserted into

the pie’s center reaches 165 F, covering browned edges only with foil about halfway through cooking. Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to rest for at least 5 minutes before cutting.

June 30, 2017 | This Week Marketplace

It was a sad day when my favorite Greek restaurant went out of business, leaving me without my regular gyro sandwich fix. Gyros are sandwiches made with seasoned lamb, beef or chicken, thinly sliced and placed in a pita or flatbread. Typically, the meat for gyros is a combination of ground beef and ground lamb that is commercially shaped into cylinders by hydraulic pressure. The meat is usually roasted on a vertical spit or electric rotisserie. The process for creating gyro meat is one of the reasons why most folks are able to eat them only in a restaurant ... until now. I have a delicious recipe for homemade gyros that can be prepared on a grill using an electric rotisserie. My new American Muscle Grill has a fabulous 100-pound rotisserie attachment and a built-in rotisserie spit. It’s the perfect grill and rotisserie for preparing everything from leg of lamb and poultry to beef and pork roasts. It works particularly well for creating gyros at home. With 110,000 BTUs of raw cooking power, the AMG can heat up to 350 F in just 2 minutes when using solid fuels. Just start with the gas or propane burners to accelerate the priming process and get yourself cooking fast! So fire up your grill, and use this recipe for rotisserie gyros and tzatziki sauce for your next outdoor dinner party! ROTISSERIE GYROS •1 medium onion, finely chopped or shredded

•2 pounds ground lamb •1 tablespoon finely minced garlic •2 tablespoons dried or ground poultry seasoning •1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce •2 teaspoons kosher salt •2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper Process the onion in a food processor for 10 to 15 seconds and turn out into the center of a tea towel. Gather up the ends of the towel and squeeze until almost all of the juice is removed. Discard juice. Return onion to the food processor and add the lamb, garlic, poultry seasoning, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper, and process until it is a fine paste, approximately 1 minute. Stop the processor as needed to scrape down sides of bowl. To cook on a rotisserie, proceed as follows: Form the meat mixture into a loaf shape and place on top of 2 overlapping pieces of plastic wrap at least 18 inches long. Roll the mixture in the plastic wrap tightly, making sure to remove any air pockets. Once the meat is completely rolled in the wrap, twist the ends until the surface of the wrap is tight. Store in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or up to overnight, to allow the mixture to firm up. Heat the grill to high. Place the meat onto the rotisserie skewer. Place a double-thick piece of aluminum foil folded into a tray directly under the meat to catch any drippings. Cook on high for 15 minutes. Decrease the heat to medium and continue to cook for another 20 to 30

minutes or until the internal temperature of the meat reaches 165 F. Turn off the heat and allow to continue to spin for another 10 to 15 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 175 degrees. Slice and serve on pita bread with tzatziki sauce (recipe follows), onions, diced tomatoes and feta cheese. TZATZIKI SAUCE •16 ounces plain Greek yogurt •1 medium cucumber, peeled, seeded and finely chopped •1/2 teaspoon kosher salt •1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper •4 cloves garlic, finely minced •1 tablespoon olive oil •2 teaspoons red wine vinegar •5 to 6 mint or basil leaves, finely minced

Place the yogurt in a tea towel or coffee filter. Gather up the edges, suspend over a bowl and drain for 2 hours in the refrigerator. Place the chopped cucumber in a tea towel and squeeze to remove the liquid; discard liquid. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the drained yogurt, cucumber, salt and pepper, garlic, olive oil, vinegar and mint or basil. Serve as a sauce for gyros. Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to a week. Makes 1-1/2 cups. PICKS OF THE WEEK “T2 Trainspotting” (R) — After 20 years, Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) has come home to Edinburgh. He reconnects with his old pals: Spud (Ewan Bremner) is still an addict, and Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller) is a petty dealer, hustler and part-time barman. Begbie (Robert Carlyle) breaks loose from prison to take revenge on Renton for absconding with the drug money from the first film. Their interactions are filled with selfdestruction and attempted redemption; once again, the ride is wild and unforgettable. Director Danny Boyle delves deep into a world of choices that is full of grit and color, bringing home a film just as fascinating and addicting as its predecessor. “CHIPS” (R) — “CHiPs” is shorthand for “California

Highway Patrol.” I have fond TV memories of the friendly, vanilla Jon Baker and the always obliging beefcake Frank “Ponch” Poncherella patrolling on their motorcycles, solving problems and cracking crimes. Not so with the 2017 reboot, starring Michael Pena as Ponch, with Dax Shepard as Baker, as well as writer/director. Ponch is a seasoned federal officer rooting out what might be an inside crime in the department; he’s teamed with Baker, a rookie exmotocross daredevil. The plot points never accel-

Eighty white-collar workers show up ready for a day of hard-core paper pushing, but before the coffee is even cooled, the building is sealed and a voice over the PA announces the day’s real objective: kill or be killed. Use the powers for good, Earth is spared. If not, well, you get the idea. This film is positively stuffed with talent: Robin Williams as Neil’s dog, newly graced with speaking powers; aliens voiced by the cast of “Monty Python”; Kate Beckinsale as Neil’s downstairs neighbor and love interest; and cameos from Rob Riggle,

Spoiler: A lot of people blow up, and those who don’t die from an exploding head aren’t spared a gruesome death. Personalities run the gamut, from the goodguy office manager (John Gallagher, Jr.) to the cutthroat executive (Tony Goldwyn). “Absolutely Anything” (R) — A group of intergalactic meddlers issue a destruction order for

Summer is here, and with it, the American pastime of baseball. Our local major-league team, the Minnesota Twins, is currently in first place in its division. That’s quite a change from last season, when they finished as the worst team in the majors. No matter your favorite team’s standing, there’s a lively spirit of baseball throughout our country this time of year. Here are some ideas for enjoying one of America’s favorite sports. BIRTHDAYS AND BASEBALL Is there a birthday in your house this summer? Great gifts might include tickets to attend a baseball game and a T-shirt or baseball cap with logo and name of the birthday person’s favorite major-league team. (Check out family days and rates online.) Top the gift-wrapped present with a box of Cracker Jack for a traditional treat. Or, give an autographed baseball with the signatures of friends or members of the family. TALK ABOUT IT Did grandparents, aunts or uncles in your family play on a Little League team when they were young? Encourage your kids to ask them to show treasured photos from the neighborhood

diamond, and tell stories of memorable and not-somemorable games. Root through drawers and old boxes to find baseball cards and autographs of professional players they admired and watched from the stands. LEARN ABOUT IT If your kids are young, watch a baseball game on TV together, or bike to a nearby park where tournaments are being held. Talk about the game as it’s played. Check out the sports section of the newspaper and teach your kids where to find statistics and stories about your favorite teams. Make it a habit to check the sports pages through the summer months. Help young readers sound out the names of the teams and locate their cities on a map. Cut out statistics and compare them day to day. LET’S PLAY BALL

Grab mitts and play catch regularly in your yard or a nearby park. Pitch a lightweight ball to your preschooler to develop their hitting skills using a plastic bat. Your dog can get in on the action too, when you hit tennis balls with a bat for him to fetch. READ ABOUT IT On your next trip to your public library, ask your librarian for age-appropriate sports-related titles to check out. Keep reading — and playing together — all summer long.
