Do you have a PID number? By: Halsey Shaheen, BSc, AAg, Regional Livestock Specialist Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture, Watrous Premises identification (PID) is a critical element in an effective traceability system. Registering your premises online is quick, easy, and free. Since December 2016, PID has been a requirement for participating in provincial livestock-related programs. PID is the set of information about a site where livestock is kept, assembled or disposed of, with the allocation of a unique identification number to that premises. The following are some commonly asked questions about PID. What is the purpose of the PID system? PID was developed to plan for, control and prevent the spread of livestock diseases, and managing animal health

PICKS OF THE WEEK “Kong: Skull Island” (PG-13) — Early 1970s: A diverse team is sent to survey the uncharted and mysterious Skull Island in the South Pacific. Agent Bill Randa (John Goodman) is accompanied by tracker James Conrad (Tom Hiddleston), peace-loving photojournalist Mason Weaver (Brie Larson) and an expert military escort led by Lt. Col. Packard (Samuel L. Jackson). When their incoming helicopters encounter the monstrous monkey Kong, he attacks, and their forces are scattered. Col. Packard swears revenge on Kong for the death of his men, even as Conrad and Weaver begin

emergencies. It is also used as a warning system for notifying producers of natural disasters such as a flood or fire that could affect their animals or operations. For example, looking at the recent bovine tuberculosis situation, officials were able to determine where animals were located and potential animal movement. Live animal movements are a major transmission route for the spread of infectious agents. This shows the value a PID number has when filling out livestock manifests. What does an effective traceability system look like? The federal government fully supports a national traceability system, which consists of three pillars: 1. Animal Identification (RFID tags): cattle, sheep and bison in Canada require RFID tags when transported out of their herd of origin.

2. Premises Identification (PID): any physical land associated with livestock should be assigned a unique ID number. This includes but is not limited to farms, pasture, feedlots, auction marts, veterinary clinic, abattoirs and even hobby farms. 3. Animal Movement: documented movement information (manifests) must accompany all livestock movement, so that all animal movements can be followed. How can traceability and PID help you as a farm manager? Having the ability to trace an animal throughout its life can provide economic, environmental and social benefits. Under the current Growing Forward 2 funding structure, the Livestock Traceability Rebate Program provides funding for equipment such as wand readers and scale heads with

Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson in “Kong: Skull Island” to understand Kong’s role on the island. The effects are masterful; Kong is simultaneously sympathetic and terrifying. It’s easy to see why “Kong: Skull Island” was one of the highest grossing films of 2017. You’ll want this one in your collection. “Free Fire” (R) — Ne’erdo-wells Stevo and Bernie (Sam Riley, Enzo Cilenti) meet up with IRA toughs Chris and Frank (Cillian Murphy, Michael Smiley), intermediary Justine (Brie Larson) and weapons dealers Ord (Armie Hammer) and Vernon (Sharlto Copley) in a Boston warehouse. Wrong weapons? A slight upon a family member? Unintelligible brogues? A simple blackmarket arms deal turns into a cross, double-cross, triple-cross and more with a bunch of charming rapscallions trading barbs and bullets. Director Ben

Wheatley delivers a zany, violence-laced adventure that’ll ignite your curiosity as to who could possible get out alive. “Tommy’s Honour” (PG) — Set against a sweeping backdrop of 19th century Scotland, “Tommy’s Honour” is a sports biopic — the true-life tale of “Young” Tommy Morris (Jack Lowden) and his father “Old” Tom Morris (Peter Mullan), pioneers of modern golf. tracking capabilities. This equipment allows easier recording of traceability information, in addition to the benefits they provide during animal processing. In the case of an emergency, having a registered PID number will allow you to act sooner and more effectively. What happens when I have more than one premises? Livestock operations must have at least one premises registered. Preferably this is the main animal operation, such as the main yard with the handling facilities and wintering site. As a livestock producer, there is a benefit to registering each location where your herd could be located. It is particularly helpful for those locations a significant distance away from your main site, so you can be notified of an emergency in that specific area. Why am I asked my maxis a sought-after caddie, and when son Tommy’s talent for the game becomes apparent, the two begin to play as a team, ushering in the era of open competition. Even with their success, Old Tom remains a traditional man, mired in servitude to aristocrats, but his passionate and rebellious son has no tolerance for a class system, neither in the game of golf nor in his love for an older woman of dubious reputation (Ophelia Lovibond). Sam Neill also stars. Directed by Jason Connery, son of Sean. “Resident Evil: Vendetta” (R) — “Resident Evil: Vendetta” is the latest installment in the “video game turned into a limited theatrical engagement movie” that is now available on DVD to add to your personal viewing library. recent estimate of enrollment in the PID program, with regards to the 2016 Census of Agriculture, approximately 28% of eligible premises have been registered. There have been significant increases in registration by producers in recent months; however there is still a long way to go until all premises are registered. When this occurs, Saskatchewan will be in a better position to respond to and even prevent disease outbreaks with a full database of information provided by producers.

imum capacity? What importance does it have? Capacity refers to the maximum number of animals (of each species) that your premises will reasonably accommodate at any one time. In the event of an animal health emergency or natural disaster, this allows officials to know the maximum number of animals impacted, helping to plan vaccination quantities and evacuation numbers.

New national ag program inked bined provincial and federal funding will support a suite of programs focused on: markets and trade; science, research and innovation; environmental sustainability and climate change; value-added agriculture and agri-food processing; and public trust. The new agreement includes a change to AgriStability, allowing provinces and territories an option to trigger late participation. Producers would be able to enter the program even if they did not sign up by the deadline, with payments reduced by 20 per cent.

“Saskatchewan does not support late participation in AgriStability as we believe it goes directly against the principle of proactive risk management and does not fix a problem producers have identified,” Stewart said. “We have no intention of triggering late participation under any circumstances in the province. However, in order to reach a deal, the other benefits of this agreement made it important for Saskatchewan to sign on to continue to provide uninterrupted programming for our producers.”

A further change to AgriStability addresses the negative consequences of Reference Margin Limits (RML) in AgriStability, introduced in GF2. The RML will be limited so that AgriStability is fairer for producers with low input costs. In order to keep these changes cost neutral, changes to AgriInvest and AgriStability were required. These are implementing a minimum payment of $250 for both programs and capping AgriInvest payments at $10,000 per producer. The province is pleased that the Western Livestock

Price Insurance Program will continue under CAP. Governments will review BRM programs over the course of this agreement, starting with AgriStability this year. Findings from the AgriStablity review will be presented to ministers at their 2018 annual meeting. The provincial government, Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation and the federal government will work together on the transition to CAP to ensure the process is seamless for current and future funding recipients. The Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture has engaged with stakeholders throughout the negotiation of the new funding agreement, and intends to conduct further consultations before implementation on April 1, 2018.

Playground for the whole family By Sean Mott Staff Writer Jason Trost spends a lot of time at York Lake Regional Park, especially during the summer. He brings his family there to enjoy the lake and the woods. He wishes more people would take advantage of the park. “It offers so much to the

city of Yorkton,” he says. “It’s greatly underutilized.” Trost thinks the latest addition to the park at Kin Point could be the key to drawing more people. It’s a brand-new playground. Trost, who is part of the playground committee with the park, has worked with multiple groups in

the community to build the set. “[The Yorkton Kinsmen Club] contributed $50,000... which is a huge sum of money,” he says. “We fundraised the rest.” The park needed $140,000 to build the playground. It was completed in May after four days of construction. “It was all volunteer

labour that did it, every single bolt,” Trost says. “We had people do everything from cooking hot dogs to climbing scaffolds.” The playground replaced a set that was built in 1969. The new playground features stairs, slides, and climbing bars. Trost says he’s seen a lot of parents on their phones while their kids play on the set. That inspired the committee to build a fitness set for

adults. “Wouldn’t it be nice to bring your kid to the park, let them play [while] you ride an elliptical?” Trost says. The fitness set will include treadmills, bench presses, and lat pulls. It will be completed in August. Trost wants to thank all the volunteers for helping with the playground and for making the park more welcoming. “It’s really a feel-good project,” he says.

DEAR DR. ROACH: An MRI shows that I have spinal stenosis. I have not improved with chiropractic care, electrical stimulation, medication (including hydrocodone, tramadol and a pain patch), physical therapy or three spinal

injections. After the third injection did not help, I told the surgeon I would need back surgery, but he said I am too old. I am 76. Am I too old? — H.S. ANSWER: Spinal stenosis is a back condition in which the spinal cord or nerve roots are compressed due to bony abnormalities. The pressure on the nerves can cause pain, loss of reflexes and numbness. Spinal stenosis is most common in the lower back, but it can happen in the neck and mid-back as well. It is seen more often in people over 60 and is the most prevalent reason

By Cindy Elavsky Q: I loved Juliette Lewis in “Secrets and Lies. Can you tell me what else I can see her in? — Danielle F., via email A: Next up for the prolific actress is EPIX cable network’s “Graves. Juliette has been cast in a recurring role in season two. In the series, Nick Nolte plays President Richard Graves, a former two-term POTUS who embarks on a Don Quixotelike quest to right the wrongs of his administration and reclaim his legacy decades later. In this coming season, President Graves turns inward in search of the man he used to be before he was president. His journey is compounded by the arrival of his first grandchild, as well as a new revelation about his son, Jeremy. Graves’ jour-

Isaiah Miller, the president’s assistant, searches for new direction after taking a bullet for the president in the season one finale. Add onion and saute for 2 minutes. Add apricots, honey and lime juice; reduce heat to medium-low and saute 1 more minute. Remove from heat and stir in lime zest, cilantro and remaining salt. Set aside. Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Grill chops until an instant-read thermometer registers 150 degrees F when inserted into the thickest part of a chop, 12 to 16 minutes per side. for back surgery in people over 65. The MRI usually shows the compression on the spinal cord or nerve roots; however, the decision for treatment is made based on the symptoms, not necessarily how the back looks by MRI. You have had the recommended nonsurgical treatments, including several medications, physical therapy and injections. Consideration of surgical treatment is reasonable. When considering any therapy, the physician must consider the potential benefits and risks. The benefit of surgery is that

it is more likely to relieve pain and improve function. There is a small risk of a serious bad outcome (death, worsening of pain or weakness). In general, the older a person is, the more risky the procedure. However, there is no absolute age cutoff of who can and can’t get the surgery. The overall health of the person is more important than age. Younger people may be a bit more likely to see better improvements in walking after surgery. Back surgery shouldn’t be undertaken lightly at any age. Get a surgical opinion — and probably a

Q: I’ve been hearing rumors that “Curb Your Enthusiasm is returning. Is this true? — Kyle T., via Facebook A: “Curb Your Enthusiasm has aired on HBO on and off for eight seasons, but hasn’t aired a new episode since 2011. However, the sardonic Larry David will return on Oct. 1, when “Curb premieres its ninth season on the cable giant. All your favorite series stars will be back, including Cheryl Hines, Jeff Garlin, JB Smoove and Susie Essman. Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen also are set to return, playing themselves. When asked earlier why he decided to restart the series, Larry replied (in Larry David fashion): “In the immortal words of Julius Caesar, ‘I left, I did nothing, I returned.’ Q: Can you give me any

info on the next season of “American Horror Story? — Gina T., via email A: Everyone’s favorite serial-killer clown, Twisty (played by John Carroll Lynch), will be back for season seven. We last saw him in “Freak Show, where he scared the beejesus out of us, as serial-killer clowns often do. Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Billie Lourd, Billy Eichner, Cheyenne Jackson, Alison Pill, Colton Haynes and Adina Howard also are featured in the new season. READERS: Netflix recently announced that season two of “Strangers Things will drop Oct. 27. The streaming service had previously announced that the horror/nostalgia series would return at Halloween, so I’m thrilled to learn we’ll be getting it a few days early. ROACH: Has the use of white powder, monatomic gold nutritional supplement been verified by the medical profession? Are the claims of mental clarity, long life span, disease cures, etc., accurate? — D.S.C. ANSWER: I thought

I knew supplements pretty well, but hadn’t heard of monatomic gold. Monatomic gold is supposed to be an “orbitally rearranged monoatomic element. In fact, these don’t exist chemically, and anyone selling a product like this and claiming health benefits is deliberately scamming you or is confused. Metallic gold is inert and has no effect in the body, as opposed to gold salts, which are powerful and potentially dangerous medications, now seldom used for rheumatic diseases. Avoid “monatomic gold supplements. Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual letters, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. HOLLYWOOD — Hugh Jackman will play P.T. Barnum in “The Greatest Showman,” out Christmas Day, with Zack Efron, Michelle Williams, Zendaya and Diahann Carroll. Jackman will then take on playing former Senator Gary Hart during the early stages of the 1988 Democratic presidential nomination. If the name Diahann Carroll sounds familiar, it may be because she was the first woman of color to star in her own series, “Julia” (1968-71), and she also starred in “Dynasty” (1984-87) and “The Colby’s” (1985-86). She has an Oscar nomination, for “Claudine,” has five Emmy

Diahann Carroll nominations and was even up for a Grammy. Carroll returned to TV for “Grey’s Anatomy” (2006-07) and “White Collar” (2009-14). No stranger to musicals, she starred on Broadway in Richard Rodgers “No Strings” (1962), winning a Tony award. She’s even written a book, her memoir “The Legs Are the

Last to Go.” Carroll next stars in the live-action film “The Little Mermaid,” with Shirley MacLaine, Gina Gershon and William Moseley (of the “Narnia” franchise), due out later this year. Meanwhile, Ryan Reynolds has begun shooting “Deadpool 2” with Leslie Uggams, T.J. Miller and Josh Brolin. It will open June 1, 2018. The 1990 film “Tremors” was such a hit that it spawned five sequels, two TV series and a video game. Michael Gross, who played Michael J. Fox’s father in “Family Ties” (1982-1989), starred in all six films and both TV series. Now Kevin Bacon, the star of the original film, is set to headline a new “Tremors” series for SYFY, which picks up 25 years later. Bacon says,

“This is the only character I’ve ever thought about revisiting. I just got to thinking, where would this guy end up after 25 years? We hope to create a show that will be fun and scary for fans of the movie? Ironically enough, while this reboot is great news, there’s no mention if Michael Gross, now 70, will be in the series. Stay tuned. A Facebook post on June 18 announced that William H. Macy had died the night before. I knew he’d just re-signed for Showtime’s “Shameless,” in which he’d played Frank Gallagher since 2011 and 84 episodes. I was saddened for his wife, Felicity Huffman, an Oscar-nominee and “Desperate Housewives” star. I thought it very odd that no major news out-

The types of radiation therapies Radiation therapy is an effective treatment option in the fight against breast cancer. Cancer cells that remain in the breast after surgery can potentially cause significant harm, and radiation therapy can effectively destroy those cells. Cancer cells are less organized than healthy cells, and that makes it hard for cancer cells to repair the damage caused by radiation therapy. According to Breastcancer. org, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing up-to-date information about breast cancer, there are three main types of radiation:

• External radiation: The most common type of radiation, external radiation therapy employs a linear accelerator that aims a beam of high-energy radiation at canceraffected areas. Treatment with external radiation is extensive, lasting as long as seven weeks, during which radiation is administered on an outpatient basis five times per week. • Internal radiation: Internal radiation therapy is being studied for use after a lumpectomy, a surgical procedure in which a lump is removed from the breast, often before the cancer has spread to

other areas. Internal radiation typically involves the use of seeds, which are small pieces of radioactive material placed in the area where the cancer was prior to the lumpectomy procedure being performed. These seeds work by emitting radiation into the surrounding tissue, which is an area that is at great risk of recurrence. Multiple small tubes or catheters are typically used to deliver internal radiation doses. • Intraoperative radiation: Intraoperative radiation is unique from other forms of radiation in that it is administered during

cancer surgery after the cancer has been removed. The underlying breast tissue is exposed during the procedure, when a single, high dose of radiation is directed at the area where the cancer was found. There are two ways to administer intraoperative radiation therapy, neither of which typically takes more than 10 minutes. Debate regarding intraoperative radiation therapy persists, and research is ongoing as to who are the ideal candidates for this relatively new type of treatment.

a straitjacket to get somebody’s attention. They’ve played the game 88 times, and each league, the American and the National, has won 43 times and split two ties. The All-Star Game used to carry considerable weight back in the days before interleague play, which began in 1997. Up until then, you never got to see your favorite players square off, save for spring training or the World Series. While interleague play became a necessity out of common sense — the fans in St. Louis wanted to see the Yankees play at Busch Stadium more than once a generation — people were sure the All-Star Game would lose its luster.

Perhaps it was that fear that led to making the game “count” after the disastrous 2002 game, which was called a tie after 11 innings due to lack of pitchers. The powers that be championed a decision that had the winning league get home-field advantage in the World Series. It was a decision that was almost universally panned. For one thing, managers didn’t necessarily play to win the game anymore. They were more interested in getting the most participation from their bench. So baseball, nimble as ever, decided to revert back to making the game a simple exhibition again (after 13 years). And what did this year’s

classic teach us? That baseball is almost impossible to not play seriously. Every player seemed to be giving his all ... the pitchers were bringing the heat (the average speed of a fastball in the game was 97 mph), fielders were diving after balls in the outfield and batters were hacking away at first pitches. In classic fashion, the game was won in extra innings when Robinson Cano hit a laser into the bullpen leading off the 10th. The night previous, Aaron Judge, the guy that everyone is pinning their hopes on being the next great player, hit 47 home runs in the derby ... in the game, he went 0-3, striking out once, just like 23 others did that night.

• It was best-selling author and aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart — the first female pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean — who made the following sage observation: “The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers.” • The elephant is the

only animal that can be trained to stand on its head (other than humans, of course). • Historians of ancient Rome say that a three-man crew was required to handle a war chariot: The rein handler was responsible for managing the horses, and the shooter focused on launching arrows at the

enemy. The straphanger, who stayed at the back of the chariot, had the unenviable task of making sure the other two crew members didn’t fall out as the chariot bounced over bodies. • Those who study such things say that your blood is filtered through your kidneys approximately 20 times every hour. • You surely know what a boycott is — a method of protest entailing the refusal to buy a product or deal with a person or organization. You might not know, however, where we got the word. Here’s the story: In 19th-cuntury Ireland, there was an

English land agent named Charles C. Boycott. During a time when crops were failing — depriving many farmers of income as well as food — he refused their pleas to lower rents. In retribution, he was ostracized, with many people refusing to do business or even socialize with him. • Statisticians say that women who marry younger men tend to live longer. Thought for the Day: “A man who is ‘ill-adjusted’ to the world is always on the verge of finding himself. One who is adjusted to the world never finds himself, but gets to be a cabinet minister.” — Hermann Hesse

• On Aug. 4, 1753, George Washington, a 21-year-old Virginia planter, becomes a Master Mason, the highest rank in the secret fraternity of Freemasonry. Washington soon would command his first military operation as a major in the Virginia colonial militia. • On Aug. 5, 1858, after several unsuccessful attempts, the first telegraph line across the 2,000-mile Atlantic Ocean

is completed, often at a depth of more than 2 miles. It ceased functioning a month later. In 1866, a British ship succeeded in laying the first permanent telegraph line. • On Aug. 6, 1926, on her second attempt, 19-yearold American Gertrude Ederle becomes the first woman to swim the 21 miles across the English Channel, besting the time of the five previous male channel swimmers. • On Aug. 2, 1934, Chancellor Adolf Hitler becomes dictator of Germany under the title of Fuhrer. Hitler assured his people that the Third Reich would last for a thousand years, but Nazi Germany collapsed 11 years later. • On Aug. 3, 1949, the

Basketball Association of America and rival National Basketball League merge to form the National Basketball Association. By the 1954-55 season, only eight teams remained in the NBA. That year, the league transformed the game with the creation of the 24-second clock. • On July 31, 1975, James “Jimmy” Hoffa, one of the most influential American labor leaders of the 20th century, disappears in Detroit, never to be heard from again. Though he is popularly believed to have been the victim of a Mafia hit, conclusive evidence has never been found. • On Aug. 1, 1981, “MTV: Music Television” goes on the air for the first time, with the words (spoken

by one of MTV’s creators, John Lack): “Ladies and gentlemen, rock and roll.” The Buggles’ “Video Killed the Radio Star” was the first music video to air.

This time it didn’t matter — and nobody cared. The Major League Baseball All-Star Game has long been considered the best all-star game of all professional sports in America. While the NBA has carved out a nice little niche with the slam dunk competition, baseball’s midsummer classic, with its fan voting, home run derby and representation of players from every team, has managed to remain relevant during a day and age where it takes

• Want to save money on both appliance repair costs and your power bill? Do yourself a favor and stay on a filter replacement schedule for your air conditioner unit. Dirty filters make the machine work harder and less efficiently, costing you money! • “When grandparents live out of town, set up a phone call between them and your kids a week or so before visiting. They can talk about what the kids might like to do. It gives the grandparents time to prepare, and it gives kids a chance to build excitement before the trip.” — G.R. in Ohio • If you have cloudy glassware, you can try to bring it back to clear with a vinegar soak. Warm vinegar in the microwave and fill the glass or soak in a tub. Send your tips to Now Here’s a Tip, 628 Virginia Drive, Orlando, FL 32803.

Sports Illustrated did the math. In the AL’s 2-1 win, 79 players came to bat and 31 of them either struck out, walked or hit a home run, meaning 39 percent of the time, the ball wasn’t even put in play. That’s the way today’s game is played ... every pitcher seems to throw 100 mph, every home run is of Ruthian proportions. In the end, just like this year’s All-Star Game, it didn’t matter: baseball is still something worth watching.

TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) It’s a good time for travel-loving Taureans to take off for fun-filled jaunts to new places. And don’t be surprised if Cupid tags along for what could be a very eventful trip. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) You appear to be of two minds about continuing a relationship that seems to be riding roughshod over your emotions. A frank talk could help you decide one way or the other. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) Stepping back from a relationship problem provides a fresh perspective on how to deal with it. Meanwhile, watch your words. Something said in anger now could backfire later. LEO (July 23 to August 22) A changing situation makes the Big Cat uneasy. But hold on until things settle down around the 5th. Meanwhile, continue your good work on that still-unfinished project. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) A decided improvement in a workplace situation results in an unexpected, but very welcome, added benefit for everyone. Personal relationships also improve. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) Money matters remain a bit unsettled but soon will ease into the kind

of stability you appreciate. Meanwhile, an expanding social life offers a chance to make new friends. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) Use an unexpected roadblock in your monetary dealings to reassess your financial plans and make changes, if necessary. It soon will be smooth sailing again. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) Aspects of love are strong for both single and paired Sagittarians. Professional dealings also thrive under the Sag’s clever handling of difficult situations.

C A P R I C O R N (December 22 to January 19) Set a realistic goal and follow it through to completion. Remember: You’re more likely to impress the right people with one welldone job than with lots of jobs left undone. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) You like to plan ahead. That’s fine. But be prepared to make some changes because of an unsettled period that influences your aspects through the 5th. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) A brief phase of instability affects your usual work cycle. Use the time to catch up on chores around the house or office. Things settle down soon after the 5th. BORN THIS WEEK: You love being the center of attention and probably would be a big success in show business.

THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL While admitting to Brooke that he regretted his affair with Quinn, Ridge vowed to fix everything and to put their family back together. Quinn confided in her son that she was having problems in her marriage. An agitated Sheila watched as Steffy filled Eric in on her conversation with Quinn.

When you hit the road this summer, your preschooler will enjoy putting “play pieces” on colorful pages of his own passport book to become familiar with who and what he will see on the trip. Upon arrival at each location, validate a page ... for instance, Grandma could sign and date “her” page when he arrives. HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED: —An empty cardboard food box approximately 6-by-8 inches, such as a Cream of Wheat or Minute Rice box —Clear plastic or tin mint box (approximately 4 inches by 2 1/2 inches) —Construction paper —Self-sticking Velcro dots —Markers, crayons

Superb Banana Split Looking for a great dessert to serve at your next picnic? Everyone will think this is fattening and bad for you, but it’s just the opposite: low in calories and fat. •12 (2-1/2-inch) chocolate graham cracker squares •2 cups (2 medium) sliced bananas •2 cups sliced fresh strawberries •1 (4-serving) package Jell-O sugar-free instant

competition in Monte Carlo between the fashion houses. Brooke struck a nerve with her sister while asking about Katie’s love life. Caroline confessed to Bill and Steffy her regrets about moving to New York instead of staying in Los Angeles to unite her family. Wait to See: Sheila uses Eric’s anger to her advantage.

—Glue —Scissors, ruler and hole punch —Pipe cleaners —Travel brochures, and small photos of your child and people you will visit. HERE’S THE FUN: 1. Repurpose the box into the spine and front and back cover of the book. An adult should cut off the two long side panels and the top of the box. Leave the bottom of the box intact to become the spine. 2. Lay the book cover in front of you with the spine to the left. vanilla pudding mix •2/3 cup Carnation Nonfat Dry Milk Powder •1 (8-ounce) can crushed pineapple, packed in fruit juice, undrained •1 cup water •1 cup Cool Whip Lite •1/4 cup chopped pecans Evenly arrange 9 graham cracker squares in a 9-by-9-inch cake pan. In a medium bowl, combine bananas and strawberries. Arrange fruit mixture evenly over chocolate “crust.” In same bowl, combine dry pudding mix, dry milk powder, undrained pineapple and water. Mix well using a wire whisk. Spread pudding mixture evenly over fruit. Refrigerate for 5 minutes.

DAYS OF OUR LIVES With Theo’s help, Abigail discovered Dario’s secret. Adrienne and Jennifer made one last pitch to save the paper. Angelica received a surprise visitor. Steve was on track to prove that someone was setting Kayla up at the Measure in to the center of the front, 4 1/2 inches from the spine. Draw a vertical line as a guide for cutting off the right side of the front cover. You have a book on the left and extra space on the right side of the back cover, where you may glue the box for storing play pieces. 3. Punch two holes in the spine, 1-inch from the top and bottom edges. Cut paper to fit inside, adding an extra inch to allow the paper to be folded and fit into the spine. Decorate each page with a drawing or cutouts from travel brochures of a place you will visit during your trip. Punch holes in the pages to match up with holes in the spine. Pull a pipe cleaner through the holes in the pages and book spine, and twist to secure the pages. 4. For each page, create a “play piece” small enough to store in the small box, such as a cutout photo of Grandma or the Statue of Liberty. Stick a Velcro dot on the back of each piece. Place the Evenly spread Cool Whip Lite over set filling. Crush remaining 3 graham crackers into fine crumbs and along with pecans sprinkle evenly over top. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Cut into 8 servings. • Each serving equals: 152 calories, 4g fat, 3g protein, 26g carbs, 231mg sodium, 88mg calcium, 2g fiber; Diabetic Exchanges: 1 Fruit, 1 Starch/Carbs; Carb Choices: 2.

hospital. Abigail confronted Dario, but he turned the tables on her. Anjelica had an unholy alliance with someone unexpected. Lucas was jealous when he found Justin comforting Adrienne. Paul had an urgent request for John. Things got messy between Kate and Andre. Abigail and Chad’s deep feelings for each other resurfaced. Hope, Lani and Eli closed in on Dario. A protective JJ ran in to Chad and warned him not to cause his sister any further pain. Kate dropped a bomb on Abigail. Wait to See: Nicole discovers Eric’s secret. GENERAL HOSPITAL Laura faced some difficorresponding Velcro dot by the image that corresponds with the play piece. For example, your child would eventually attach Grandma’s photo to the page with a drawing of her house. Glue your child’s picture on the inside cover, and add name, date and place of birth. Paint and decorate the cover to resemble a real passport. Donna Erickson’s award-winning series “Donna’s Day” is airing on public television nationwide. cult truths about Charlotte. Spencer made matters worse. Ava was a wreck. Sonny began an uphill battle. Curtis learned what it meant to make a true sacrifice. Laura turned to Kevin for help. Nina had a big decision to make. Obrecht needed a favor. Finn and Hayden looked to the future. Alexis was conflicted. Nina’s faith was shaken. Laura pleaded her case. Sonny was pulled in opposite directions. Lucy tracked down Finn. Jason promised to do what he could. Sam made a beeline for Julian. Nathan called out Nina. Sonny received an ominous text message. Ava’s depression worsened. Wait to See: Anna arrives with big news. THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS Cane and Lily decided it was time to tell the kids that Juliet was pregnant. Cane later found his devastated twins comforting their mom. Tessa bumped into Jack at Nikki’s concert and talked about how

much they had overcome. Mariah noticed that Devon couldn’t keep his eyes off Hilary. Ashley accused Victor of being too harsh with Abby. Dina thought that Jack was giving Nikki too much attention. Phyllis charmed Billy’s kids but was caught off guard when Victoria arrived home earlier than expected. Cane accused Juliet of ruining his life and costing him his job at Brash & Sassy. Mariah opened up to Devon about her fear that he wasn’t over Hilary. Wait to See: The Newman family scandal is made public. DEAR PAW’S CORNER: Our dog “Chet loves to jump into the pool with us, as any water-loving Lab would! However, during a recent cookout one of our friends said it’s a bad idea to let him in the pool because dogs can spread germs and their hair clogs the filters. What’s your take? I’d hate to keep him out. — Pam in Fort Myers, Florida DEAR PAM: While

your friend’s concerns are valid, there are ways to minimize problems that can arise when swimming with your dog. Germs can be an issue if a dog is dirty or ill. If, for example, Chet were to roll around in muck on a walk and then leap into the pool, that is definitely going to affect water cleanliness. Excess shedding can lead to fine hairs being drawn into the pool’s filter system, or even getting through the filters and fouling up the works. Here are a few things you can do to keep the pool clean and let Chet continue having fun: • Rinse your dog’s coat before allowing him into the pool; rinse again after

the swim to keep pool chemicals from irritating his skin. • Keep Chet’s nails trimmed, so he doesn’t scratch other swimmers when paddling around. • Brush his coat regularly to remove stray hairs. • Don’t allow him in the pool if he’s under the weather, has diarrhea or if his skin is dry, cracked or has sores. • Check the pool’s pH levels daily, chlorinate on schedule and manually skim the surface after each swim to nab fine particles. • If you have guests over, make sure they’re OK with Chet joining them in the pool. If not, keep him inside and let him swim another day. Send your questions, comments and tips to ask@ pawscorner.com.
