Season’s Greetings from the Lieutenant Governor Tansi. Bonjour. Hello. I’m pleased to bring you greetings on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, at this special time of year. This is a holiday season unlike any other. We cannot gather in large groups, but we can still connect with our family and friends on the phone and online. It’s particularly important to reach out to those who may be alone. This is a challenging time for everyone, and even more so for some. I am so grateful to our health care workers, educators, and others who continue to serve throughout our communities. Many people are experiencing stress right now, especially business

Russ Mirasty Lieutenant Governor owners, workers in grocery stores and restaurants, performing artists, and leaders who must make difficult decisions in every sector. Thank you, everyone, for doing your best to support public health guidelines. I’m grateful every

day for all of our First Responders and Military personnel, who work in high risk situations to serve and protect us throughout the year. I also want to recognize and thank our Saskatchewan volunteers, who are the backbone of our many cultural, sports, youth, and seniors’ organizations. Difficult times can bring out the best in us. I’m grateful to live in this province, surrounded by so many thoughtful and caring people. We have more challenges ahead, but we can and will get through this together. My wife Donna and I look forward to a time when we can greet you in person with a handshake or a hug. Season’s Greetings, from my family to yours.

Premier Moe reminds to be safe this Christmas Hello folks. Well, Christmas is almost here and I want to take a moment to wish everyone a happy and joyful holiday season. This year, the celebration will be a little different. We’re asking you to gather with only those in your household because of the Covid-19 pandemic. We have to do this to control the spread of the virus to protect one another. I know it’s disappointing. We all want to get together with family and friends during the holidays. But we’re doing this for one Christmas only. Very soon, we will begin a vaccination program in Saskatchewan. It will be rolled out across the province in the months to come. It’s going to take a while to get everyone vaccinated. So we need to continue to take precautions - wear your mask, wash your hands frequently and practice social distan-

cing. But believe me when I say this: better days are ahead in Saskatchewan. Life will return to normal and in a year’s time, we will come together again, to enjoy the holidays the way we should the way we always have. The meaning of Christmas hasn’t changed. This is a time of reflection, of reverence, a time to reconnect with the ones we love. For many of us, this is the season when we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the Saviour. Jesus calls on us to love another, to carry one another’s burdens. Those of us who have been blessed in our lives have a sacred obligation, a duty, to reach out to, to provide comfort, love and support where we can. That’s the spirit of Christmas. And this year, one of the most difficult years we have ever experienced, we have seen the spirit of Christmas at

Merry Christmas

To Our Many Customers And Friends

Premier Scott Moe work in every corner of this province. In Melfort, a Licenced Practical Nurse named Laura Alexander wanted to shine a ray of hope for patients, families and her co-workers. And last month, she did just that literally. Laura went out and bought some beautiful, blue Christmas lights, and put them on a bal-

cony above the entrance of Melfort Hospital. Those lights spell the word Hope. Laura says she works with amazing people a work family that has become closer in the last few months. All of our health care workers in Saskatchewan are amazing and we owe them so much. In Regina, Lindsay Patton a server at Boston Pizza decided to donate all her tips for October to Souls Harbour Rescue Mission. Lindsay is grateful her customers responded so generously. She raised $2,750 for Souls Harbour and Boston Pizza matched the donation. In Warman, fire chief Russ Austin was worried about the youngsters who couldn’t have birthday parties during the pandemic. So Russ said this:

HAVE A HOLLY JOLLY CHRISTMAS FROM THE STAFF AT

536 BROADWAY STREET EAST - YORKTON PHONE: 306-783-55011 Email: olsondiesel@sasktel.net

Heartland

“these poor kiddos don’t even understand why their birthday is being cancelled or why people can’t come over. So Chief Austin decided to broaden the mandate of Warman Fire Rescue. The department made gift bags for the kids and dropped them off at their homes. The firefighters sang Happy Birthday. Chief Austin reports that the kiddos were pretty happy. And in Swift Current, Kathy Jennings wanted to ensure every senior in the area had a good Christmas. Kathy started a program called Adopt a Senior for the Christmas Holidays. 566 seniors signed up. In less than three weeks, all of them were spoken for. The seniors will get gifts, Christmas cards, and many will get photos of

children and pets from their new friends and I would imagine more than one of them will get a phone call on Christmas Day. Folks, that’s the spirit of Christmas. That’s the spirit that has come to define Saskatchewan. And it’s alive and well across our province. You know, we’ve been through a lot this year. It’s been difficult and there are some tough days ahead. But we’re going to get through this together, like we always do. So however you celebrate the holiday, I wish you the very best. From my wife Krista and our children, and on behalf of my colleagues in the Government of Saskatchewan, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Mayor Hippsley reflects on 2020 Looking back at 2020, we had a number of significant accomplishments in the City, the major one being beginning construction for the new City Operations Centre. This included the demolition of the old Public Works Building,

originally constructed in the 1950’s, followed by site preparation, foundation construction and most recently framing for both the new Maintenance and Administration Facility as well as the new Fleet Storage Building. The

new facilities will house both the Public Works and Parks Departments staff and all major equipment, consolidating a number of old sites scattered throughout the City. The new facility is scheduled to open in late 2021.

May your Holid ay be filled with warmth and good cheer this season and throughout the New Ye ar

Another major accomplishment was the reconstruction of Mayhew Avenue South to Darlington Street, and the construction and opening of the new Roundabout at the Darlington Street and Mayhew Avenue intersection. Darlington Street from the roundabout to Dracup Avenue will be completed in 2021. Other completed projects for 2020 include the Dracup Avenue Pathway and the opening of the new Pedestrian Bridge on Dracup Avenue, as well as an extension to the Patrick Park Disc Golf Course through Rodney Ridge and Water Tower Park. In addition, a new outdoor rink and basketball court was built at Ukrainian Pioneer Park. Work also continued on evaluation of replacement or improvements to the Kinsmen Arena, and construction was completed on a new Cemetery Maintenance Building. We also replaced a major portion of the water main on York Road, between Second and Third Avenue. We also continued

Mayor Mitch Hippsley to upgrade intersection traffic controls for better movement and pedestrian crossings for safety throughout the city. We continue to have regular conversations with our counterparts in the RM’s of Orkney and Wallace as well as the York Lake Regional council, and we thank them for working with the city to improve the lives of all of us in this region. We truly appreciate their cooperation and input. 2020 saw the retirement of long term Councillor and two term Mayor Bob Maloney, and I’d like to thank Bob for his leadership and

achievements over his time in office. We also saw the election of a new Council, and I am both proud and confident they will provide a combination of experience and some new approaches in leading our city during these very difficult times. I look forward to working with my fellow Councillors and City Administration over the next four years. Yorkton is truly in great hands. Unfortunately, COVID19 saw the cancellation of many of our regular community events and sporting activities this year, but we look forward to them returning once the virus is under control. In closing, it is truly a privilege to be your new mayor and I wish to Thank You for putting me here. I look forward to serving you and our fine city! From all of city employees, city council and all of our families I want to wish you a very Merry Christmas to all our residents and Best Wishes for Peace, Love, Great Health, Great Friends and Happiness in 2021!

Hope survives loss and sacrifice The year 2020 will go down in history for many reasons and as I reflect on the past year, I am reminded of a sentiment my wife Leone and I strive to live by, bitter or better can often be a choice. There is not one person I know who has not struggled in some way in this past year. The challenges of COVID 19 have caused anxiety, heartache and many types of loss. For the better, in the midst of loss and sacrifice, I can

say that I have witnessed families doing more together and becoming closer, neighbours supporting one another and a significant focus has been put on supporting local businesses. In October, our team was humbled by the highest support ever received in a provincial election for our constituency and it was an honour to be once again chosen by the people of the Yorkton Constituency to represent them in the

Saskatchewan Legislature. The Saskatchewan Party was given a mandate to stand up for our province and its citizens. Our priorities will focus on the well-being of the people of Saskatchewan and the province’s economy. We are facing the pandemic together, reopening our economy together and we will build and recover together. Our province is well positioned for a strong recovery. Our plan for a strong Saskatchewan will

drive Saskatchewan’s economic recovery and create jobs. While we face challenges in our province, one thing is certain: Saskatchewan people are determined, resilient and resourceful. Our government will always reflect those qualities as it stands up for our province and works to build a stronger Saskatchewan. At this time, I would be remiss if I did not give thanks and mention the many women and men

who serve our province and our community. Many front-line workers in healthcare, protective services and the service industry have given so much and served the people of Saskatchewan with dedication and professionalism over these past months. To each of them, I offer a huge thank-you. This is the time of year when we remember that God sent His only Son to serve, not to be served. He restored love

and service to the centre of our lives in the person of Jesus Christ. It is my prayer this Christmas season that His example and teaching will continue to bring people together to give the best of themselves in the service of others. May God watch over you and your family in the coming year; may the peace that Jesus brings fill your heart and home. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

May the blessings from above shine on you with peace and love this holiday season.

Opposition leader Meili offers seasonal message My wife Mahli and I watched a Christmas movie the other night. I’m a sucker for a good Christmas movie. And there was this scene at the end where the family was just sitting around the living room, telling stories, enjoying each other’s company. And I got a little lump in my throat, thinking of my family, and how much we’ll miss the simple act of gathering together this year. Because this year we’ll be staying home, we won’t see my folks or my wife’s folks, our kids won’t see their grandparents – and that’s hard. We want them to stay safe, we want to stay safe. And we know it’s the right thing to do. But It’s hard. We also know that other families are struggling with much harder challenges right now. The grandmother who can’t hold her new grandchild. The family with a loved one in long-term care they can’t visit. So many people out of work, with bills piling up. The small business owner

Ryan Meili, Opposition leader just trying to keep the doors open on a labour of love. The frontline workers putting themselves at risk to keep all of us safe. This has been a hard year in many ways. And we’ve reason to believe that next year will be better. But please, if you have the ability, give some thought to how you might reach out to someone who is struggling. You could shovel a neighbour’s walk, or drop off some cookies. Volunteer to safely serve a meal. Zoom or Facetime with someone you know who

could use a call. This is the kind of thing Saskatchewan people excel at. Particularly at Christmas, Saskatchewan people care and we show it. And if you’re struggling, please, ask for help. Call the healthline at 811, or the Kids Help Phone, or call your MLA -- that’s what we’re here for. Finally, in this time of generosity and reflection -- the strangest holiday season I hope any of us will ever experience in this strangest of years -- let’s share our appreciation for those who are working hard to keep us safe. To our children’s teachers, to our grandparents’ care aides, to our first responders and small business owners -thank you for everything you do, day in and day out. May you all have a healthy and happy holiday season, and look forward to more time together and a brighter 2021.

Wagantall focuses on joy in holiday As we celebrate this Christmas, so many experiences that go with it are muted or out of reach completely. Traditions like attending a Christmas Eve service, singing Christmas carols at hospitals and care homes, playing board games, visiting great grandparents, opening gifts together and more – these are lost to many of us. My husband, Marty, and I will celebrate differently from our children, their wonderful spouses, our beautiful grandchildren (and three dogs and two cats). Respecting others’ health concerns, working with those responsible for balancing protections with freedoms—all in the midst of a barrage of conflicting information and divergent opinions, personal loss, economic fears—is no easy task. The truth is that Christmas at its heart is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ and the very essence of hope. My Christian faith anchors this season of joy and peace in ways no earth-

Cathay Wagantall, MP ly circumstances can diminish. Being denied the wonderful traditions we’ve added has caused me, more than ever, to focus my joy on the hope of God’s love for humanity. To paraphrase a favourite scripture: Because of His deep love God sent His Son to earth to be the Saviour for the world. His life on earth, death and resurrection brought His gift of eternal life to all who believe. May the true meaning of Christmas also bring you peace and joy.
