“The House with a Clock in Its Walls” (PG) — Lewis (Owen Vaccaro) is 10 years old and an orphan, sent to live with his oddball uncle. It’s hard to be the new kid, especially when you live in the creepiest house in the neighborhood. When he’s dared into opening an offlimits section of the house to a schoolfriend, he accidentally wakes the dead, and he, his uncle and the neighborhood witch (a delightful Cate Blanchett as Mrs. Zimmerman) will have to work overtime to clean the clocks of the evil that’s to come. Jack Black
Jack Black in “The House with a Clock in Its Walls”. is at his most effective in weirdo roles, and he’s simply magical here as Uncle Jonathan Barnavelt, a warlock who is the caretaker of this house with a secret.
Pull up an enchanted sofa, and enjoy this film with a batch of chocolate chip cookies. “A Simple Favor” (R) — An unlikely friendship is
struck between glamorous fashion executive Emily (Blake Lively) and mommy vlogger Stephanie (Anna Kendrick) that takes so many twists and turns that by the end of the movie you’ll be sick to your stomach — and loving it! The two women bond over play dates, so it’s unremarkable when Emily enlists Stephanie as a babysitter. But then she doesn’t turn up and eventually is discovered dead in a lake. There’s intrigue, confession, sex and alternate personalities. Well-done performances by the leads and direction by Paul Feig. Adapted from the novel by Darcey Bell. “Little Women” (PG-13) — When Louisa May Alcott published “Little Women,” do you think she knew just how many times the March
sisters would have to come of age on film? This release marks the seventh film adaptation, this time bringing Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy into the present day. Jo is a writer challenged to dig into her own life for meaningful material. Meg dreams of domestic harmony, while Beth’s quiet spiritual strength belies her fragile health, and Amy’s artist talents blossom as she dreams of material wealth. It may be updated to the modern times, but it’s 100 percent sappy and sweet — like, the Hallmark Channel version. Lea Thompson is Marmee, and Lucas Grabeel plays Laurie. “Venom” (PG-13) — Tom Hardy stars as investigative journalist Eddie Brock, who, while trying to expose the underhand-
ed machinations of a big bio-engineering company, inadvertently bonds with an alien lifeform that unleashes superhero powers in him. This symbiote is called Venom, and unfortunately for the rest of us, is part of a group of no nose, big teeth, slimy actual people-eaters whose manifest destiny includes taking over the planet. Bummer. Brock/Venom face off against archtype billionaire baddie CEO Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed), among other things. The superhero genre has a plentiful stream of offerings, there’s no need to waste your time on this weak drivel. NEW TV RELEASES “The Sinner” Season 2 “Mars” Season 2 “WWE: Survivor Series 2018”

Maya returned to town and was immediately suspicious of Zoe’s relationship with Xander. Bill confirmed that Brooke was asking him to report Taylor to the police. Emma informed Xander that a major fashion magazine wanted to interview him. Zoe expressed her gratitude to Xander for his support while her father was in town. Maya told Brooke the bad news about Rick. Liam bonded with baby Kelly, but Hope reminded him that as long as Taylor lived with Steffy, they would have separate holidays. Taylor accused Brooke of trying to keep Liam and Steffy apart. Wait to See: Hope plans a “babymoon” for her and Liam on Catalina Island. DAYS OF OUR LIVES Chad and Sonny rushed to save Julie’s life. Meanwhile, Gabi feared that Julie would expose her secret. Sonny explained to Will that he couldn’t see him anymore. Hope and Rafe argued about Ted. Eli and Lani questioned Gabi about Julie’s fall. Phyllis was jealous of Billy and Victoria’s renewed chemistry. Kerry felt that Jack was moving too fast after he offered to take her to Bora Bora for the holidays. Salvation Army pushes towards goal By Devin Wilger Staff Writer Christmas is in one week, and the Salvation Army is making the final push in the kettle campaign. They are 64 per cent of the way to their goal, having raised $57,598 as of Saturday, Dec. 15. Lieutenant Sam Tim with the Salvation Army wants to thank the commu-
nity for their support so far, because it would not be possible to do what they do without community support, whether it’s donations or people volunteering at the kettles. “We don’t just do this on our own, we have the support of the entire community to help us, which is a huge help for us. We really appreciate it.” But with the last week
before Christmas, and the last day of the kettles being on Christmas Eve, they need to make the final push of the season. That means they need help to man the kettles at Save-On Foods, Superstore, Wal Mart, the Parkland Mall and the Liquor Store. “If anyone can help, give two hours. It’s all indoors, you sit down, get
to wear a Christmas sweater, say Merry Christmas to people. This is our final push, our final week.” The money raised during the campaign stays within the community, going to people who need it in Yorkton and area. The Food Bank office is, at the moment, filled with boxes designated to go to area families of different sizes, giving them a Christmas
meal including a turkey and all the fixings. They also give toys to area children, for a Christmas gift, said Tim. “Otherwise it would be sad to wake up to no gift on Christmas morning,” said Tim. While the Salvation Army is best known for what they do around Christmas, the need to
help doesn’t begin and end in the month of December. “Year round, we help those who don’t have enough money to make ends meet. They come here to get dry food, and meat, to get meals. We help with that. Also, this year, we sent kids to camp.” If you want to help out at the kettles, call Mary Tim at 306-316-0265. Shifts are still available.
Yorkton volunteers grateful of recognition By Calvin Daniels Staff Writer You don’t volunteer for recognition, but when it comes it is appreciated. That was the response of Bruce Thurston and Mya Desmarais who were announced last week as the inaugural recipients of the City of Yorkton’s Citizen Recognition Awards. The announcement was made at the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday with Thurston being chosen in the adult category and Desmarais in the youth category. “It’s always an honour to be nominated especially by peers and the commun-
ity,” said Thurston. “… You do these things regardless of awards. You do it because it’s the right thing to do. It’s a social responsibility. “But, it is nice to be recognized.” Desmarais, 17, said she was surprised when contacted about her selection. “I was pretty excited. I was actually out shopping when they contacted me,” he said. “… I’m very honoured to be getting it. It’s humbling.” Thurston said volunteerism is something that was instilled in him by his parents. “It goes back to mom and dad who always
encouraged me to get involved in the community I lived in,” he said, adding there was a period in his life he moved often and volunteering got him involved in each place. “It’s a responsibility of being a person in the community.” Desmarais said volunteering is something she feels she should do. “Just being part of the community is really important to me,” she said. Having grown up in Yorkton, and having enjoyed many of the opportunities offered in the city, Desmarais said she feels volunteering is a way to create opportunities for
other people. Of course volunteering does take time for a student such as Desmarais. “It takes a lot of time management. You have to know when to slow down for a second to regenerate and then get back to it,” she said. In October of 2017, Council approved the ‘Citizen Recognition Awards Policy’. The policy is in place to recognize two recipients (adult and youth) who have given selfless support, and made contributions for the betterment of the City of Yorkton. A Council committee comprised of three Council members and two

community members was appointed in January of 2018 to adjudicate submissions for the 2018 year, and recommend the award recipients to Council. As of the submission deadline, there were 11 adult category submissions, and four youth category submissions received. As background to Yorkton Council last week Jessica Matsalla, City Clerk with the City reported “Bruce Thurston is a familiar name for many, with his extensive involvement in the City. Events that have seen his efforts are the Charity Road Race, Rhythm and Ribs Festival, Charity Golf Classics, the Farming for Health Project, Snowarama, the annual Pumpkin Walk, as well as involvement with the Soup Haven and YBID
to name a few. “Mya Desmarais is an honour roll student at the Yorkton Regional High School who has many notable accomplishments. The annual Friday Night Lights football game was orchestrated by her efforts amidst performing a Skills Canada Competition and achieving bronze in Public Speaking and Robotics, working as a lifeguard, and volunteering as a Mentor for Big Brothers and Big Sisters.” The presentation of the awards was originally set to occur at the first meeting held in January 2019, with award recipients in attendance prior for a reception and appreciation, however, due to schedule conflicts, the presentation of the awards was deferred to a future meeting of Council.

By Dana Jackson Q: Why was Kevin Hart fired as host of the Oscars? I know it had to do with something he posted on Twitter. Did they find a new host yet? — D.B. A: Hart wasn’t fired from his hosting duties, but chose to step down. It all started when the Academy demanded that he apologize for anti-gay comments he posted on Twitter several years ago. The actor/ comedian refused, stating that he had addressed this issue before and that he was not the same person he was when he made those comments. A few days later, he did issue an apology to the LGBTQ community, stating: “I am evolving and want to continue to do so.

actress who plays the oldest daughter on “Modern Family” had another kidney transplant? Is she going to be OK? I still watch that show faithfully every week. — A.J. A: Yes, Sarah Hyland, who plays Haley on ABC’s “Modern Family,” underwent a second kidney transplant in 2017, but didn’t go public with the news until now. In an interview with “Self,” she stated that she went through a period of major depression after learning that her body rejected her original transplanted kidney, which was donated by her father. Her new kidney was donated by her brother, and she appears to be doing well so far. Inserting whole cloves into a firm apple or citrus fruit to create what is known as a pomander is a lovely traditional craft you might remember doing when you were young. Tis the season to pass this artful fun on to your own kids or grandkids. Easy to make, pomander balls’ rustic beauty and holiday scent make them unique
gifts for friends and neighbors that will last long into the new year. For this version using apples, you’ll need to do some shopping for just two ingredients, whole cloves and apples. I economize by buying cloves in bulk at our neighborhood co-op
grocery story. You may also find them in jars in the spice section of most markets. Use any size apple you prefer. This year, I chose cute small snacksize apples rather than larger ones, which makes creating a lovely clovestudded apple easier for kids to complete in one sitting. Here’s the stuff for one pomander ball covered with cloves: — Fresh, firm apple — Whole cloves — Narrow festive ribbon — Toothpick or bamboo skewer — Gift box to fit fin-
DEAR DR. ROACH: Bottled and purified water sales have increased over the years. I often see advertisements showing filters attached to faucets that “take out all impurities.” My parents had a water softener, and my father, professionally involved in weight-bearing physical activity, experienced demineralization of his skeleton and a broken hip. It has been suggested that the water softener took minerals, including calcium, out of the water that my parents used to cook and drink. I drink tap water, but is a large percentage of
the U.S. population headed for demineralization and malnutrition because they drink only “purified water”? — C.D. ANSWER: Most water softeners work by exchanging sodium for the “hard” minerals, especially magnesium and calcium, present in most tap water, to greater or lesser extent. If the water in your area is naturally very hard, then a significant amount of sodium may be added, and calcium and magnesium removed. However, this is very rarely a problem, and almost certainly had nothing to do with why your father had a hip fracture. We get our minerals mostly from food, not from water. The major risk factors for osteoporosis in men are smoking, alcohol, low testosterone levels and low vitamin D, although there are many other causes. I don’t recommend bottled water or water purifi-
ers because in most of the United States and Canada, the water quality is excellent. Bottled water is 1,000 times more expensive than tap water where I live. I have been to places where the tap water doesn’t taste so good, in which case I would recommend a filter over bottled water. DEAR DR. ROACH: Could you please discuss the use of Propecia for female hair loss? I am a female in my late 50s, and I have suffered from hair loss for many years. After numerous blood tests, a biopsy and exams, my dermatologist determined that I have androgenic alopecia. I have been on Aldactone, and have used minoxidil for quite a while, with minimal results, if any. For the past eight months, I have been taking Propecia, 2.5 mg daily. My hair doesn’t seem any better or worse, but I worry about its side effects. Can
as you’re not overspending. Paying the rent or the mortgage is still important. The truth is, Americans are spending more on their pets this holiday than ever before. A new poll by St. Leo University found that, on average, pet owners plan to spend $237 on gifts this season. That’s way up from the same poll done in 2015, when pet owners said they would only spend about $98 on their pets. Why the big uptick in spending? Maybe it’s the way we increasingly see pets as family members. Maybe we have a little
more disposable income this year and want to buy pricier gifts that we wouldn’t have considered for our pets a few years ago. For example, the owner of a store I frequent has a small terrier that wears a different, stylish doggie sweater every day. At any rate, it’s your choice how much to spend on your pets, no matter what others might think. Readers, what New Year’s resolutions will you make for your pet? Let me know at ask@pawscorner.com or on Twitter @ PawsCorner.
DEAR PAW’S CORNER: I love buying gifts for my pets at Christmas. My exboyfriend, however, says I spend too much money and that my dog and two cats don’t care that they’re getting presents. I still love doing it, though — it makes me happy to see them in a new dog sweater or cat collar or playing with new toys. What do you think? — Craig J., via email DEAR CRAIG: I think you answered the question yourself: It makes you happy to give gifts to your pets. That should be all that matters — as long
Happy New Year
ished pomander ball and one sheet of tissue paper (for gift-giving) Here’s the fun: To cover the entire apple with cloves, use the toothpick or bamboo skewer and poke several evenly spaced small holes making a circular pattern through the apple skin, beginning near the top stem. Insert cloves one by one into these holes, like a “dot to dot” activity. (Leave space between the cloves, as the apple will shrink in size.) Continue making holes around and around the apple and filling them with cloves until you reach the base.
For a gift: Decorate the clovestudded apple by crisscrossing colorful ribbon around it vertically once or twice and topping it with a loop to hang in a windowsill or on a wreath. For a nice presentation, set in small gift box with tissue paper. When the recipient lifts the lid, the delicious, spicy scent will permeate the air. Citrus balls: Using a similar technique, poke holes into the rind of citrus fruit, such as oranges, lemons and limes. Instead of covering fruit entirely with cloves, use as many as you would like
to create swirls, shapes or alphabet letters. If you have visitors coming to your holiday dinner, make a place card by forming the initial of their name, add a bow on top and place the fruit on the center of each plate. you please give me your opinion on the use of Propecia by women? Do the benefits outweigh the risks? — R.M. ANSWER: Male pattern hair loss will occur in up to 80 percent of men and 40 percent of women, with age being the primary risk factor. Hair loss can affect self-image and self-esteem significantly, probably even more in women than in men. Diagnosis usually is made by appearance, but a biopsy is sometimes necessary to rule out lesscommon causes. Finasteride (Propecia) is a blocker of dihydrotestosterone, and although it frequently is used in men, is not approved for use in women. It should not be used by women who could become pregnant. Women (and men) should not donate blood while taking finasteride. However, it is sometimes used “offlabel,” and one study showed that although it did not cause regeneration of hair, it did slow further loss. Side effects of weight gain, loss of libido,
depression and fatigue are listed as possible. I have no personal experience of women using this medication. Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer
individual letters, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. Readers may email questions to ToYourGoodHealth@med. cornell.edu.

My father, Howard, was in the Air Force, and my mother, Angeline, was a homemaker. They didn’t have a lot of money to buy Christmas presents for my three siblings or myself. One thing they did give us is lots of love, great food and faith in God and in the future, no matter how bleak things might look in the present. The Bible says that faith is “a gift of God” ... I believe that. It would take a God to create something as wonderful and as lifesustaining as faith. It takes a great faith to carry on during the troubles we all face day in and day out. The wonderful thing about faith is that the more you use it, the more it grows. Unlike earthly things that become worn and depleted when used time after time, faith becomes even stronger and more abundant the more that you use it. I often hear about people “losing faith.” If you feel like that, all I can say is that lost things often are found in the most unexpected places at the most unexpected times. I’ve misplaced things, thinking that they were lost, only to find them when I was looking for something else. What I thought I’d lost was there all the time, waiting for me to discover it again. Faith is like that, sometimes when you think you’ve reached the end of your ability to believe,
something or someone comes along to shore you up so that you can continue. I have great faith in the future and the abilities of the American people to preserve in these difficult times. We must love and speak lovingly about our country. A thing that is not loved will not grow properly. We must have faith in our personal abilities and in our potential as a people in order to grow. While the holidays pose their own special set of personal and financial challenges, they also are a time to appreciate and treasure the priceless things in our lives — love, faith and family. No matter what your circumstances may be, hold on to hope, preserve and cherish your family’s heritage, memories and recipes. And most importantly in these difficult times, keep the faith. While I have wonderful memories of the dishes my mother made for Christmas, this year I’ve decided to start a holiday tradition of my own. I call this recipe Christmas Chicken because it’s a beautiful holiday dish with lots of colorful red tomatoes, white pasta, and green beans and basil. It’s also inexpensive, simple to make and can be doubled to easily feed a crowd. I look forward to sharing it with my family and friends for years to come!
Merry Christmas and have a blessed holiday season! CHRISTMAS CHICKEN •1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts •2-1/2 tablespoons poultry seasoning •1-1/2 teaspoons salt •1-1/2 teaspoons ground black pepper •1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper •3/4 cup flour •8 ounces pasta, like spaghetti, linguine or bucatini •1/4 cup butter •1/4 cup olive oil •1 large yellow onion, chopped •1 (28-ounce) can Cento or San Marzano crushed tomatoes •3 cloves garlic, minced •1/8 teaspoon cloves or nutmeg •1/4 teaspoon sugar •1 (15-ounce) can Italian or whole green beans •1 cup fresh basil, cut into ribbons •3/4 cup grated Parmesan or Romano cheese Cover the chicken breasts with plastic wrap and pound each piece to an even thickness, about 1 inch in the thickest parts. Remove the plastic and sprinkle each piece of chicken on both sides with 1 tablespoon of the poultry season, 1/2 teaspoon each of the salt and freshly ground pepper, and 1/8 teaspoon of the cayenne pepper. Add 1/2 tablespoon of
the poultry seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper to the flour and mix well. Press the chicken into the flour on both sides, shake off excess and set aside. Make the pasta according to package directions. Meanwhile, heat the butter and olive oil in a large heavy skillet over medium heat until sizzling, about 2 to 3 minutes. Add the seasoned chicken and pan-fry for 4 to 5 minutes on each side until golden brown. Place the chicken on a plate and set aside. Add the onions to the oil and cook for 2 minutes. Add in the tomatoes, garlic, the remaining poultry seasoning, salt, pepper and cayenne, and the cloves or nutmeg and sugar.

Turn heat to simmer, and cook to a sauce-like mixture, about 5-7 minutes. Cut the chicken into strips and add to the sauce. Stir in the drained green beans and half of the basil. Top the drained pasta with the sauce and stir to combine over medium heat, about 1 to 2 minutes. To serve, sprinkle the pasta with the remaining basil and the grated cheese. Serves 4-6. Did you know? Watchdog organizations like the Better Business Bureau warn against donating to charities over the telephone, but reports indicate that fraudsters are still utilizing robocalls to great effect as they prey on donors’ generous natures. According to the Federal Trade Commission, consumers report losing hundreds of millions of dollars a year to robocalls, a scam used by perpetrators of fraud in which donations to bogus charities are solicited over the phone. While some people may be surprised to learn such scams are still effective, a report from YouMail, a free robocall-blocking service, sheds some light on just how common robocalls are. According to YouMail, in July 2018, 1,591 robocalls were placed every second. That means roughly 137.5 million such calls are made every day. And the people behind these calls are very clever, sometimes using famous people’s actual voices to convince innocent people of a bogus charity’s legitimacy. In 2017, the Connecticut Better Business Bureau issued a warning about robocalls using the voices of celebrities. The warning indicated that, after hearing the voice of a famous person, consumers were prompted to press a button to speak with a “donation agent.” Consumers concerned about being victimized by robocalls should heed the advice of watchdog organizations and never donate or agree to donate over the phone.

HOLLYWOOD — When word got out that Steven Spielberg was in preproduction of a remake of the 1961 musical “West Side Story” (which won 10 Academy Awards), even Robert Redford posted on Facebook his reasons for objecting to a remake of such a film classic. But Spielberg is one smart producer. While we’ve been waiting to see who will play Tony and Maria, the first actress cast is 86-yearold Rita Moreno, who won an Oscar for playing Anita (at age 30) in the original film. Moreno will be playing the reconceived role of “Doc,” originally played by Ned Glass. She admitted, “Never in my wildest dreams did I see myself revisiting this seminal work, and to be asked by Steven Spielberg to participate is simply thrilling!” Eddie Redmayne has completed his tour for

Pylatuik appointed to Carlyle Housing Authority Rambold reappointed to Moosomin Housing Authority Darcy Rambold has been reappointed to the Moosomin Housing Authority Board of Directors. Other members of the board of directors are Kenneth Norgan, Donald Middleton, Kevin Weedmark and Ron Farkas. Farkas is chairperson. The Moosomin Housing Authority is a communitybased organization that provides daily management of 137 housing units constructed and operated under the terms of a fed-
eral provincial municipal cost sharing agreement. Social Services Minister, Paul Merriman, paid tribute to the volunteers who manage the social housing projects in their community. “This local hands-on approach ensures that the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation responds effectively to the needs of each community.” Saskatchewan has a network of 260 housing authorities and more than 1,400 volunteer members who assist with manage-
ment of housing units throughout the province for seniors, low income families and persons with disabilities. Persons interested in volunteering to serve on the board of directors for the Moosomin Housing Authority are encouraged to contact the mayor of Moosomin. A local nominating committee recommends board members. Applications for accommodation are available from the manager of the Moosomin Housing Authority.

• It was beloved American comedian and film star Groucho Marx who made the following sage observation: “There’s one way to find out if a man is honest — ask him. If he says ‘Yes,’ you know he is a crook.” • You might be surprised to learn that, in addition to his holiday duties, Saint Nicholas is
• On Jan. 4, 1785, the older of the two Grimm brothers, Jacob, is born in Hanau, Germany. His brother Wilhelm is born the following year. As young men, the brothers published “Children’s and Household Tales,” later known as “Grimm’s Fairy Tales,” in several volumes between 1812 and 1822. • On Dec. 31, 1879, in the first public demonstration of his incandescent light bulb, American inventor Thomas Alva Edison lights up a street in Menlo Park, New Jersey. The Pennsylvania Railroad Company ran special trains to Menlo Park in response to public enthusiasm over the event. • On Jan. 5, 1933, construction begins on the Golden Gate Bridge, as workers began excavating 3.25 million cubic feet of dirt for the structure’s huge anchorages. The bridge officially opened on May 27, 1937, the longest bridge span in the world at the time. • On Jan. 1, 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill issue a declaration, signed by representatives of 26 countries, called
the patron saint of children, coopers, sailors, fishermen, merchants, broadcasters, the falsely accused, repentant thieves, brewers, pharmacists, archers, pawnbrokers, Aberdeen, Galway, Russia, Greece, Hellenic Navy, Liverpool, the Italian town of Bari, the city of Siggiewi in Malta, Moscow, Amsterdam and
the Lorraine region of France. • The next time you’ve enjoyed a happy hour out with friends, you might want to consider the virtually unknown adjective “gambrinous,” which means “to be content and happy due to a stomach full of beer.” • A pregnant goldfish is known as a “twit.” • Sometimes looking at local ordinances can make you wonder what inspired lawmakers to pass such laws. For instance, in Florida it’s illegal to wear nothing but liquid latex while in a public place. • If you make a serious study of Hungarian gyp-
the “United Nations.” The signatories vowed to create an international postwar peacekeeping organization. • On Jan. 2, 1962, an appearance by The Weavers on NBC’s “The
Jack Paar Show” is canceled when band members refuse to sign an oath of political loyalty. The folk group saw their careers nearly destroyed by the anti-communist Red Scare of the early 1950s.
• Putting up new calendars? Before you toss your old one, be sure to look through it for important anniversaries, and cut out and save any pictures or art that might be reusable for craft projects. • Wrapping up your decorations is a snap with a visit to the recycling bin: egg cartons for ornaments, paper towel cores to wrap lights around, and newspaper for tinsel or lengths of fake boughs. • “Is your showerhead spraying in all directions? There may be a buildup of mineral deposits blocking some of the holes. Here’s a good way to get that cleaned out, and it’s no scrub, mostly. Fill a plastic baggie halfway with a vinegar and water solution. Lift it up and put the showerhead into the
vinegar. Then secure the bag over the pipe tightly using tape or a hair elastic. Let it sit while you’re at work or running errands. Then remove and run the shower normally.” — R.E. in Oklahoma • Do you use the clutter basket trick? As you clean your home, or just when tidying, carry a basket from room to room. Items that belong in another room go in the basket to be delivered to the right room along the way. • “Make your own coffee creamer with this easy recipe: Combine 1 can of sweetened condensed milk with 2 cups of whole milk and 1/3 to 1/2 cup flavoring syrup, available in the coffee aisle of your grocery store. Add a teaspoon of vanilla or almond extract for additional flavor.” — W.B. in New York • Use dry flour or cornstarch on a microfiber cloth for stubborn grease on stainless steel. It absorbs and buffs. Send your tips to Now Here’s a Tip, 628 Virginia Drive, Orlando, FL 32803.
sies, you probably already know that you’re a “tziganologist.” • Ever wonder how the statuette taken home by winners of the Academy Awards got its nickname? Evidently, in 1931 a sec-
retary at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences saw the statuette for the first time and exclaimed, “Why, he reminds me of my Uncle Oscar!” The comment struck the fancy of a
reporter who was present, and he put it in a story about the awards, and the name stuck. “It is easier to fight for one’s principles than to live up to them.” — Felix Adler
