QUALITY OF EDUCATION Canada earned an ‘A’ on its Education and Skills report card, raking 2nd out of 16 countries. Our strengths are in delivering high-quality education to people aged 5-19. Conference Board of Canada, Economy Report Card, 2014

DIVERSE CULTURE Over the past 100 years, more than 13 million immigrants have come to Canada to start a new life. This makes Canada one of the world’s most ethnically diverse countries. Canada’s cultural mosaic is evident in the variety of restaurants and grocery stores, religious places of worship and festivals throughout the year.

LOW COST TUITION Canada is known for high-quality, low-cost education. Our tuition rates for international students are lower than many other countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom. As well, the cost of living is considerably less than the UK, Europe and Australia.

CANADA WAS VOTED #7 IN THE 2014 UN QUALITY OF LIFE INDEX

Our Waterloo campus is located in the thriving, culturally diverse community of Kitchener-Waterloo (K-W). Located just 100 kilometres west of Toronto, this city offers plenty of hiking trails, golf courses, skating rinks, soccer fields and even a ski hill. Home to many leaders in technology including BlackBerry™, Desire2Learn and Google’s Canadian headquarters, K-W caters to a student population, which represents about a third of our 350,000 people. K-W is small enough to be safe and easy to get around, yet big enough to provide great restaurants, shopping and entertainment.

Meal plans are required for residence students at the Brantford campus at a cost of $400 Pakistan per term (fall & winter). Even though all of the residences are apartment-style, which means you’ll have a kitchen in the apartment to cook all of your meals, the meal plan will come in handy for buying groceries at FreshCo, a local grocery store, just a short five minute walk from campus. You can also use your meal plan at Williams Fresh Cafe, Subway and Golden Grounds, just to name a few locations.

Malaysia Trinidad & Tobago Dreams Teashop is where I go to find my favorite treat from home: mango bubble tea. It’s so nice to have some familiar things from home just down the street from Laurier.

The Co-op Advantage Co-op is a paid work placement opportunity that provides you with the chance to develop valuable contacts, gain self-confidence and create opportunities for employment after graduation. Honours students in arts, science, economics* and business at the Waterloo campus may apply to our co-op program. Students in double degree programs who meet progression requirements for the second year of their program are automatically eligible to enrol in co-op, as are students in the Bachelor of Business Technology Management (BBTM) program at the Brantford campus. Students in double degree programs offered between Laurier and the University of Waterloo are required to participate in co-op. *Co-op is not available in the Applied Economics program.

HOW DOES IT WORK? • You apply to co-op at the end of first-year. If your program offers automatic admission to co-op and you have met the progression requirements for second-year, you would enrol at this time as well. • If you meet the grade requirements, you will be invited to an admission interview. Soon thereafter, you will find out if you are accepted into the co-op program.

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT The Department of Co-operative Education posts jobs and arranges interviews for you. Staff members will also help you fine-tune your resumé and cover letter and practice interview skills.

The English Proficiency Requirements are for undergraduate programs only. Our Graduate Studies programs have separate requirements. Exemptions may be granted to applicants who have studied successfully in an Englishinstructional education system, on a full-time basis for a minimum of three years, exclusive of ESL courses, and who can and who can present acceptable grades in English and other Humanities/Social Science courses from their senior high school year. The Laurier Institution code is 0893 if required by testing centres. Note: Students entering the double degree programs with the University of Waterloo must meet UW’s English proficiency requirements.

FALL TERM September to December

The LEAF Program

$4,950

The LAURIER ENGLISH AND ACADEMIC FOUNDATION (LEAF) PROGRAM allows academically qualified students who do not meet our English proficiency requirements the opportunity to receive a conditional offer of admission pending completion of the 5-level program. This means that no TOEFL or IELTS scores are required.

SUMMER TERM June to August

WINTER TERM January to April

$3,650

$4,950 SPRING TERM April to June

$3,650

HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK? In each calendar year there are two 14-week regular cycles and two 8-week intensive summer cycles. The regular cycles are longer because they’re aligned with the undergraduate terms, giving you the opportunity to interact with both domestic and international students during the busiest times of the year.

WHAT LEVEL WILL I START IN? Upon arrival, you will be given a placement test to determine which of the five levels is best suited for you. Our courses focus on academic English and they are designed to prepare students for success in university.

OUR EDUCATION PARTNERS We will accept the successful completion of the LEAF program or the following English Language Certificate Programs as proof of language proficiency for admission to undergraduate programs without TOEFL or IELTS testing:

WILL I GET A CONDITIONAL OFFER OF ADMISSION?

RENISON UNIVERSITY COLLEGE English for Academic Success Program Level 400 minimum grade 75%* uwaterloo.ca/renison

Conditional Offers of Admissions will be awarded for September 2015 entry to academically qualified students who are enrolled in, and plan to complete an English Language Certificate Program. This means that a Conditional Offer of Admission to Laurier can be awarded at the same time as an Offer of Admission is made to LEAF or a Laurier-affiliated English language program.

UNIVERSITY OF GUELPH ESL University Preparation Program Advanced Level minimum grade 75%* eslguelph.ca

This is appealing if you want the certainty of receiving a letter of acceptance before you leave home, which will cover the English language training and the subsequent time spent at Laurier. Conditions will be removed upon completion of the English language program at the level and grade specified and submission of final official transcripts.

For starting points and tuition fees, please visit chooselaurier.ca/leaf.
