Wakeboard Rocker is defined as the curve of the board from tip-to-tail as you look at it from the side. Wakeboards use a wide variety of different rocker types, and each rocker type can have different “amounts” of rocker that will greatly affect the way the board rides. Most rocker types can be broken down into 3 categories. Continuous Rocker – This type of rocker is defined as the board has a continuous, constant curve along the bottom of the board running the length of the board. Because of this consistent curve, Continuous rocker boards tend to feel the most predictable on the water & are generally the best for beginner riders as well. As a general rule, boards with less rocker ride faster and with less drag than boards with more rocker. Too little rocker and the board will punch through the wake, too much rocker and the board will plow through the water like a bowling ball. Ideally, a good continuous rocker is somewhere in-between, so that it rides well & rolls up the wake in a consistent manner, allowing you to get both the height and distance you need to clear the wake. Fortunately, all O’Brien boards with continuous rocker lines are designed with this in mind to perform the best in all conditions. 3-Stage Rocker – Generally, 3 stage rocker boards are defined by a flat (or nearly flat) midsection of the board, with the tips kinked upwards at an angle. Because of the kinked bottom shape, 3-stage rocker boards tend to be much more aggressive off the wake than continuous boards, with a more straight-up component to the pop. The more abrupt the tip angle, the more kick the board has off the wake – but typically this comes along with more drag and can also make the board “stop” on landings. Again, we know all that so we make sure our 3-stage boards ride fast, kick hard, and glide out on landings. Progressive Rocker – Progressive rocker is a blend of both Continuous and 3 stage rocker and can be best visualized by imagining a continuous rocker board and slightly kinking it towards the tips. The goal of Progressive rocker is to provide a more vertical pop than continuous rocker with more predictability than 3-stage rocker.

FEEL-O-METER

This is generally the area from your bindings to the ends of the board. It has a greater impact on how the board rides than mid flex by a fairly large amount. Boards with higher tip flex numbers are easier to press on obstacles and generally pop later than boards with lower tip flex numbers.

The feel captures the essence of the board’s ride. Boards on the aggressive side tend to set an edge quickly. Freeride boards have more float in them allowing more board angle before dipping into a progressive edge. Keep in mind that a number on the aggressive side doesn’t mean the board is more difficult to ride. It’s simply a way of quantifying the way a board feels on the water.

This is the flex in the area of the board between your bindings. Boards with a stiffer midsection tend to have a more immediate snap off the wake. Boards with more flex through the middle tend to land a bit softer and pop a bit later.

As boards have gotten more technical and options of flex, rocker and constructions continue to grow – we’ve created some tools to help you out in your selection of one of our boards. The numbers are based on the average of our boards and range from -5 to +5. The Flex numbers are based on extensive data recorded in our testing labs, while the Feel-o-Meter is based on several factors such as rocker, edge profile, and flex and how they work together to shape the way a board rides. Combining all 3 elements will help you determine which board in our line best fits your riding style.

SIZES: 132cm, 137cm, 142cm Creating a board that meets the needs of Jeff Langley’s style was not easy. Not only does he do all the tech tricks with style; he also takes his tricks impossibly big as well. After a year’s worth of prototypes and countless hours of hard work and inspiration we give you The Bruce. Built off our Fusion core and bombproof sandwich construction, we developed an explosive 5-stage rocker line that is fast and poppy behind the boat. Dura Rail edges and Impact base make this board at home on the cable park as well. A full rail through the midsection of the board lets the board sit high on the water for ultra clean release as well as providing added buoyancy when riding at slower boat speeds. Fins at each end keep the tail loose, providing the perfect balance of control and freedom. The board has very little flex through the center, providing maximum pop when riding a balanced approach to the wake but has flexible tips for load-and-release snap with a tailheavy approach. A double concave midsection and Delta Base exiting the tips keeps the board landing soft and riding clean.

The Brice 5-Stage Rocker – If 3-stage rocker and Progressive rocker had kids, you’d get O’Brien’s new 5-stage rocker. Defined by a flatter rocker profile through the midsection of the board – 5-stage is fast on the water with glide. The tips are turned up twice as you reach the ends of the board, giving the board a more explosive kick off the wake. The result is a board that rides fast and hits hard at the wake, but in a predictable fashion.

Josh Sanders’ pro model Format started the wood revolution with O’brien’s Fusion Core. Top to bottom full-length wood stringers allow us to achieve the “Holy Grail” of wakeboarding construction; reduced overall volume and decreased weight. The Fusion Core gives us a board that is up to 1.5 lbs. lighter than our standard core. We’ve also reinvented the progressive rocker by lifting the centerline of the board towards the tips, resulting in more vertical pop with no loss of speed to the wake. A subtle double concave through the clean midsection of the board softens impact on landings. The base of the deck is finished off with (4) 0.7 inch Flank fins, our signature Delta Base for a faster ride and a full length step-down rail to increase edge hold.

Introduced in 2012, the Baker set the standard for the all-terrain boards and for 2013 we’ve made it even better. Both Nick Ennen and legions of stoked Baker riders worldwide gave us great feedback, and in response we’ve added more flex to the tip and tail, reduced the volume and height of the molded fins and added subtle tracking channels through the midsection of the board. The result? The Baker is now lighter, tracks better, presses longer and has more of the load-and-release explosion off the wake that flex riders love. Of course it still has our bombproof Impact base, Dura-Rail edge and snappy Fusion core. Comes with removable 0.8 Blunt center fins to tune the ride.

When we approached Sean O’Brien to develop the Paradigm, the question was raised “Can we create a single, no compromise board for the cables, rails, and behind the boat?” In the past, boards that were great on the obstacles suffered off the wake and vice versa. Not anymore. The Paradigm forges a unique union between wake and park riding, a board equally at home shredding rails or boosting off the double up. Featuring our new Fusion Core with top to bottom full-length wood stringers, we utilize a heavily ribbed cross-section and tapered geometry to control the flex of the board. The result is a board that is stiff through the midsection with flexible snappy tips, allowing the board to carve with incredible energy and accelerated boot off the wake. With HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) base and rails, the Paradigm is as durable as they come and is quickly becoming an O’Brien team favorite.

The Decade features an Amplified Rolled Rail (A.R.R.) through the midsection that provides a true freeride edge response and performance that can only be described as “buttery smooth”. The A.R.R. keeps the midsection catch-free when centered and initiates a mellow transition while carving. The edge profile tapers quickly to a low volume rail at the foot position and continues all the way to the tips, allowing the board to hook up with ease when you’re ready to charge. The expanded Delta base keeps the water cleanly breaking off the tail of the board, reducing rocker-induced drag and providing optimum release off the wake. The molded .7” Spine fins are as thin as possible for minimal drag and optimum control and blend with the 3-stage rocker for just the right amount of kick. The Clean V-bottom maximizes lift and makes for silky-soft landings.

Long before “hybrid flex” was the industry’s latest catch phrase, the Coda was sporting thin flexible tips that load and enhance pop off the wake. This provides a snap that has to be ridden to be believed. The Coda has a full midsection profile with slightly pulled in tips and a V-hull, allowing the board to roll on edge with ease to provide an extremely responsive ride. WAKE BINDING PACKAGES For 2013, most of the wakeboard industry, including O’Brien, is switching to 6mm inserts in their boards. We are doing this for several reasons – but most importantly a 6mm screw has a higher quality thread as well as more threads along the screw, therefore having more threads engaged in the insert – resulting in a better, more secure fit between your board and bindings. For the 2013 season, bindings will be shipped with both 6mm and 1-4/20 screws. The Ace, System, and Siren wakeboards have 1-4/20 inserts.

By bringing the top and bottom carbon laminates together, the Conquer not only has less weight, but is also extremely strong in torsion. Sweet Spot Layup – The Conquer utilizes the advantages of the “sweet spot” layup. By creating a longer area for the ski to flex on the Conquer, which already has a huge sweet spot, you’ll wonder if this ski has anything BUT a sweet spot! 48 Degree Bevels - Bevels in the fore body are 48 degrees from a straight vertical. This allows for a slightly smaller bevel configuration; which keeps the ski up on the water without losing any tracking ability. Rounded Tail Bevels - The bevels in the rear of the ski are a complete radius. This allows the tail freedom in the rotation of the turn, and to maintain momentum. (With no parallel stops!!) 12” Flat Spot - The flat spot on the ski, or balance point, is 12” long, but further back than most with a 37” center line to allow a more central balance point for the skier and a less sensitive ride. 7 Degree Sidewall Angle - A 7 degree sidewall angle runs from front to tail to create maximum lift and stability.

Made for the real “little guys” up to about 85 pounds, this trainer offers almost guaranteed success. It’s less intimidating than traditional trainer skis. It’s soft and cushy and just plain friendly looking. Additionally, the inflated seat on the back gives your child a great perch when the trainers aren’t moving. The comfortable stirrups are on an inflated floor that absorbs the bumps. It comes complete with two ropes, one for the child and a tow rope for an adult to hold from the boat. This trainer will plane off with almost any movement at all (even running speeds on the beach) and the max speed is a very rider-friendly 8 mph.
