Dear Friend, Massive citizen involvement, led by the “Tea Party” Movement, changed public policy dramatically in 2010. To date, this increased public activism mostly aims to thwart the massive expansion of the Federal government. These newly activated citizens often remark that the 2010 elections “are the most important in our lifetime.” Perhaps. Yet, I suspect all future elections and public policy debates will become much more important to the average American whether we like it or not. Why? Government now controls so much more of our lives. The Obama Administration has taken over your car company, your health care, the whole student loan business, and even seeks to decide your salary. Obama’s driving mindset assumes big government knows best, especially when government is driven by envy and coveting the income of successful wage earners and investors. Americans now have less freedom to make their own decisions about their own lives. Politicians in Washington will make more decisions for you. This ensures greater divisiveness and dissatisfaction. Yet, if anyone thinks this trend began in Washington in 2008, or will be reversed by one election, they are mistaken. Barack Obama’s own experience reveals where Washington’s rulers get their arrogance, ideology, and methods: in our schools. Barack Obama adopted the core beliefs of modern day socialists while a student at Columbia and Harvard and as a lecturer at the University of Chicago. Obama’s latest Supreme Court selection, Elena Kagan, is a great example of the new elite following Obama from academia into government. Kagan proved her reliability as a totalitarian-in-training beginning with her socialist writings at Princeton and later as an administrator at Harvard. Kagan dutifully fought to prevent Harvard Law students from deciding whether or not to meet with military recruiters on campus. She ripped down flyers that exposed disagreement with her decision. Kagan was a perfect selection for Obama’s solicitor general when, in her very first case before the Supreme Court, she sought to criminalize a film critical of Hillary Clinton. You see, our schools today are dominated by leftists, like Obama and Kagan, even though those schools are funded by average Americans. By the time these college administrators get to Washington, they are well trained in trampling on the rights of those who might have another point of view! Our schools are the breeding grounds for Washington’s new rulers. The college campus is a place where conservative thought isn’t welcome, the faculty tenure system freezes out alternative viewpoints, free speech is stifled, racial preferences determine hiring and student recruitment, and members of the military are treated as second-class citizens. Most conservatives are submissive, marginalized, or kept off campus in the first place. Little wonder, then, that President Obama speaks on a college campus once every twelve days. It is the one place he is sure to find politically correct accomplices ready to suppress any opposition. No reform will be safe in Washington as long as our schools remain hostile to freedom’s cause. As long as socialists control our children and their educations, freedom will remain in jeopardy.

Thiessen, Mattera, Robinson, Gingrich, and Others Headline CPAC 2010 More than 10,000 activists—6,000 of whom were students—attended the 37th annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C., to hear from leaders of the Conservative Movement, including Newt Gingrich, Governor Tim Pawlenty, Fox News’s Glenn Beck, and more than 150 others. During the conference, Young America’s Foundation— sponsor of CPAC along with Human Events, the NRA, and the American Conservative Union—held several events for students, including a private briefing with Congressmen Darrell Issa and Mike Pence which was Congressman Mike Pence takes questions from the standingorganized with the help of Foundation Vice President room-only audience at a special student briefing hosted by Young America’s Foundation during the 37th annual CPAC. Michelle Malkin and Ben Stein Headline Reagan Ranch Roundtables Recent Wendy P. McCaw Reagan Ranch Roundtable luncheons at the Reagan Ranch Center featured author, blogger, and Fox News contributor Michelle Malkin as well as author and actor Ben Stein. In front of a crowd of 270 students, supporters, and community members, Malkin heralded the Reagan Ranch Center as a “strong oasis and sanctuary for rightminded people in Santa Barbara” and said that the people involved with Young America’s Foundation gave her “hope for the future.” Looking toward the future, Malkin Best-selling author Michelle Malkin shares emphasized that her thoughts on the importance of limited it is “important government and free enterprise with the Reagan Ranch Roundtable audience. to underscore the founding principles of a constitutionally-limited government and a moral defense of capitalism.” She added that we must send people to Washington who can articulate these conservative principles as well as Ronald Reagan did. He emphasized the importance of freedom. American and European Students Learn How to Advance Freedom Young America’s Foundation hosted students from the United States and Europe for a special program at the Reagan Ranch Center entitled Advancing Freedom in the New Era of Socialism. The seminar participants learned how to spread pro-freedom ideas in their countries and on their campuses. John Mantia, a student at Fordham University said, “This seminar energizes serious students like nothing I have ever been to. The confidence it has given me, I am sure will benefit many others.” The seminar included remarks from Andrew Breitbart, founder of BigGovernment.com, who gave a rousing talk on conservatism and new media. Later, Sally Pipes of the Pacific Research Institute addressed dangers of the government takeover of our health care. Ann McElhinney then offered the first of two talks on the active socialism in environmental and green efforts. The day wrapped up with a speech by President Reagan’s son, Michael Reagan, who shared many of the life lessons he learned from his father. The final day of the seminar included remarks by the Reagan Legacy Foundation’s Larry Greenfield, who discussed the challenges that the Conservative Movement will have to address in the future. Wynton Hall, author, Foundation director, and visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution, focused on the effective use of digital media and rhetoric in advancing the conservative message. Richard and Helen DeVos Honored at Tax Cut Anniversary Celebration

n his book, Ten Powerful Phrases for Positive People, Rich DeVos, co-founder of Amway, owner of the Orlando Magic, and author wrote, I discovered that a visit to the Reagan Ranch is an inspiring reflection of President Reagan’s American spirit and character of rugged individualism, idealism, and hard work…President Reagan recognized that if you reward your ‘can do’ people properly, they will produce more and more, which helps to take care of the ‘can’t do’ people by providing jobs…We need to encourage and support the person with ambition who takes the risks and is willing to work hard to start the type of small business that creates so many of our jobs today. It’s amazing what a little encouragement can do.

which were signed at the Ranch, as one of the many ways President Reagan supported free enterprise and limited government. President Ron Robinson offered the invocation followed by the Pledge of Allegiance from Reagan Ranch Board of Governors member and President Reagan’s Secret Service agent, John Barletta. Vice President Kate Obenshain presented Helen DeVos with a bouquet of flowers, thanking her for her compassion and generosity to the numerous causes she supports. Vice President Richard Kimble then introduced the featured speaker, Rich DeVos. In his address, Mr. DeVos conveyed what motivated his involvement with Young America’s Foundation. He said, “I believed in what President Reagan stood for, and it was getting to be in short commodity.” Stressing the importance of remembering and promoting Reagan’s values through Young America’s Foundation, he remarked that President Ronald Reagan’s lasting accomplishments will not be forgotten. After humorous and light-hearted jokes regarding the current administration, Mr. DeVos highlighted the more somber contrast between President Reagan and President Obama’s guiding philosophies. Following lunch, Reagan Ranch Board of Governors Chairman Frank Donatelli presided over the dedication of the Ranch home acre, unveiling a plaque dedicated to Mr. and Mrs. DeVos in grateful acknowledgement of their generous gift to Young America’s Foundation.

Entrepreneurs Rich and Helen DeVos, in an act of generosity and foresight, decided to support the Reagan Ranch, a place that meant so much to one of their heroes, Ronald Reagan, with a gift of $10 million to sponsor the Reagan Ranch Home Acre. On the 29th anniversary of Ronald Reagan’s Economic Recovery Tax Act, Young America’s Foundation celebrated the dedication of the Ranch home acre and the important legislation that encouraged businesses and “can do people,” including Amway led by Mr. DeVos, to build jobs and jumpstart the largest peacetime economic expansion in our nation’s history. Young America’s Foundation hosted Rawhide Circle and President’s Club members at the Reagan Ranch to mark this special occasion and to hear from Mr. DeVos, a true leader in free enterprise and a generous philanthropist. Folsom, Reagan, Rohrabacher, Conservative College Leaders, and Others Energize Audience at the Reagan Ranch High School Conference By Roger Custer, Conference Director

ore than 200 participants, including students from 52 schools in 19 states, enjoyed a jam-packed weekend of pro-freedom speakers and ideas at the fourth annual Reagan Ranch High School Conference in Santa Barbara, California. During the conference, Young America’s Foundation also launched our sixth annual list of “Top Conservative Colleges,” (see page 12) with representatives from seven of the colleges headlining the program’s opening banquet. The college presidents and leaders discussed the advantages of attending a conservative college. Foundation Vice President Andrew Coffin led a panel discussion with Dr. Richard Jewell from Grove City College, Dr. Jerry Davis from College of the Ozarks, Dr. Gary Quinlivan from Saint Vincent College, Dr. Graham Walker from Patrick Henry College, Dr. Jim Carr from Dr. Burt Folsom, a regular member of the Foundation’s Harding University, Charles McKinney from Thomas More conference faculty, delivers an energizing address based on his latest book, New Deal or Raw Deal? College, and Jon Daly from Thomas Aquinas College. The conference continued with a talk from President Reagan’s son, author Michael Reagan. A discussion of the religious views of the Founding Fathers followed, led by Foundation Director and Washington State Director of Americans for Prosperity Kirby Wilbur. John Barletta, President Reagan’s close friend and Secret Service agent, also shared memorable stories about his time with the President at the Ranch. The students visited Rancho del Cielo to learn more about the life and principles of Ronald Reagan, and it made an impact. Laura Andrews from Leesburg, Virginia, wrote, “I loved seeing and touring the Ranch. It is amazingly beautiful, and I learned so much about the modesty with which Reagan lived. Visiting the Ranch meant a lot because for someone who wasn’t even alive when Reagan was President; it really helped me understand him and his values and morals.” Islam scholar and best-selling author Robert Spencer also spoke about the importance of knowing our enemy in radical Islam. He compared the threat posed by radical Islam today to the Cold War and the battle against communism. The conference included Hillsdale College professor and author Dr. Burt Folsom’s rousing criticism of Roosevelt’s New Deal, based on his new book, New Deal or Raw Deal?, and a discussion based on Folsom’s earlier book, The Myth of the Robber Barons. Young America’s Foundation thanks the Richard and Barbara Gaby Foundation for sponsoring this program for the third consecutive year. The young attendees, many participating

Commenting on the list, which was also featured on Foxnews.com (see below), Young America’s Foundation President Ron Robinson explained, “Given the liberal bias in higher education today, it is critical that we make these recommendations. We want conservative students and parents to be well informed before they make this important decision.” These schools offer coursework and scholarship in conservative thought and emphasize principles including smaller government, a strong national defense, free enterprise, and traditional values. Furthermore, they avoid trends in higher education by continuing to study Western Civilization instead of straying toward the study of Marxism, feminism, sexuality, postmodernism, and other distractions that do not give students a complete understanding of our country, culture, and Founding principles. Foundation Sponsors President George W. Bush at Harding University By Jessica Jensen, Editor

ore than 4,000 students and community members gathered at Harding University to hear from President George W. Bush during a speech sponsored by Young America’s Foundation. President Bush discussed the difficult decisions he had to make during his Presidency, admitting the most difficult was to move forward with the troop surge in Iraq when others encouraged him to pull troops out. “I just couldn’t do it in good conscience...I believed we could succeed. I knew it looked hopeless. But I believed it... And it worked. And it’s going to work,” noted the 43rd President of the United States. worked for Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld as a speech writer at the Pentagon. That experience prepared him to join the speechwriting team of President George W. Bush, and in 2008, he was named the President’s chief speechwriter. In that role, Thiessen was tasked with writing a speech acknowledging and defending the CIA’s interrogation program. As a result, he was given special access to classified materials including techniques, intelligence, names, and other details that kept the U.S. safe from terrorist attacks. He also had personal contact with the interrogators who were with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and other highprofile al Qaeda terrorists when they finally revealed valuable information. Thiessen reports, “Those of us who had access to the intelligence could not respond to the lies spread by the Left because the answers were classified…

and a visiting fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. His advice for Young America’s Foundation students and alumni: “Read, read, read. The strength of our Movement lies in ideas. Be a happy warrior, and proceed with confidence.” The truth is that these men are not torturers but heroes who stopped the next 9/11.” In explaining why he wrote Courting Disaster, Thiessen says, “I spoke up for these men to clear their names, to restore the good name of our country, and to warn Americans that we are in peril of another terrorist attack without this [interrogation] capability.” Along with his successful career, this prominent Washington insider also has a young family. He met his wife, Pam, when she was a legislative aide to then-Senator John Ashcroft, and he was working for Senator Helms. They now have four children, including four-year-old twin girls. “My family is the greatest blessing God has bestowed on me,” says Thiessen. n the eve of the 100th anniversary of President Reagan’s birth, a time to celebrate the achievements of one of the greatest, most beloved Presidents in our nation’s history, Freedom is on the precipice. We are witnessing an unprecedented attempt by leftists in power to bring about the complete reversal of the Reagan Revolution. Everything Ronald Reagan fought for has been rejected by the most liberal administration we’ve seen in our nation’s history. Their goal: to eradicate President Reagan’s ideas and lasting accomplishments and weave socialism into the very fabric of our American society. Barack Obama understands the importance of young people in establishing a movement. He regularly—with more intensity than any President before—goes to campuses to inculcate young people with his socialist ideology. On average, he’s visited one campus every 12 days since taking office. Like Obama, President Reagan understood the importance of reaching and inspiring young people. He

said, “There is a flickering spark in all of us that if struck at just the right age, will light up the rest of our lives.” He also understood that Freedom itself is never more than one generation away from extinction. At the end of his administration, he knew, even though Freedom was once again flourishing, it could be fleeting. He said, “Our spirit is back, but we haven’t reinstitutionalized it. We’ve got to do a better job of getting across that America is freedom—freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of enterprise. And freedom is special and rare. It’s fragile and it needs protection.” Most college students today were not alive when Ronald Reagan was President. They do not remember how he and his policies restored America’s economic vibrancy and her position in the world. Together, we must inspire this next generation with an understanding of just how significant President Reagan’s successes were, how he achieved them, and how relevant those lessons are today. During Reagan 100, Young America’s Foundation’s mission, in partnership with our supporters, is clear: Bring President Reagan’s ideals and vision to life for the next generation, and reinstitutionalize Freedom though the Reagan Ranch, the Reagan Ranch Center, and the programs of Young America’s Foundation, so that it will never again give way. hile many high school students spend their summers by a pool or playing video games, the young leaders attending Young America’s Foundation’s summer high school programs received a healthy dose of conservative ideas at two separate conferences held in Washington, D.C., and Grove City, Pennsylvania.

More than 100 high school students from across the country kicked off their summer vacations by attending the Foundation’s 13th annual Gratia Houghton Rinehart National High School Leadership Conference outside of Washington, D.C. The three-day program enabled some of the country’s brightest conservative youths to interact with like-minded peers and

hear from top conservative leaders. The conference commenced with a trip to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where Foundation Director Kirby Wilbur provided the young conservatives with a detailed account of the Battle of Gettysburg. Alyssa Reinicke of El Cajon, California, noted, “I wish all students could attend the Gettysburg tour. Mr. Wilbur knows so much about

Gettysburg; you almost feel like you were there during the battle.” The students enjoyed the opening dinner banquet featuring Congressman Jim Jordan of Ohio who gave his opinion on the three main challenges facing America: terrorism, the ever-expanding national debt, and “the values debate.” Senior Editor of National Review Ramesh Ponnuru delivered an

engaging speech on the negative aspects of diversity, tolerance, and multiculturalism, while Vice President of Focus on the Family and Reagan Ranch Board of Governors member Tim Goeglein provided advice on public service and encouraged the students to take action. American Cause President Bay Buchanan gave a motivational speech

on standing up for the rights of unborn children. Kristen Gawlik of Closter, New Jersey, said, “Bay Buchanan really inspired me to do whatever it is I can possibly do in the pro-life movement.” Kirby Wilbur discussed the importance of Judeo-Christian values during the founding of America, and Young America’s Foundation Vice President Kate Obenshain taught students about

As a group, students sang the “National Anthem” on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to show their patriotism. They were quickly told to stop by U.S. Park Police, but continued on, nonetheless. The students returned home

Student Emily Cummins from Minnesota noted, “This conference has really helped me grow as a young conservative. Being surrounded by likeminded people my age has been very inspiring…My conservative beliefs have been strengthened in these past few days.”

Normandy on D-Day and Thatcher in London: An Unforgettable Cruise By Nicole Hoplin, Director of Foundation Relations

n June 6, 2010, our nation marked the 66th anniversary of D-Day and mourned the brave soldiers who lost their lives protecting freedom during that fateful World War II battle. On the 40th anniversary of those Normandy landings, Ronald Reagan visited Omaha Beach and the surrounding areas to mark that occasion, saying, “These are the boys of Pointe du Hoc. These are the men who took the cliffs. These are the champions who helped free a continent. And these are the heroes who helped end a war…” Participants in Young America’s Foundation’s 2010 European cruise remembered the anniversary of D-Day on the actual beaches of Normandy. They placed white flowers at the base of the tombs of those soldiers who valiantly sacrificed for our country and freedom’s future. Travelers also saw the famous Pointe Du Hoc, where a plaque now marks Ronald Reagan’s 1984 visit: And the American Rangers began to climb. They shot rope ladders over the face of these cliffs and began to pull themselves up. When one Ranger fell, another would take his place. When one rope was cut, a Ranger would grab another and begin his climb again. They climbed, shot back, and held their footing. Soon, one by one, the Rangers pulled themselves over the top. And in seizing the firm land at the top of these cliffs, they began to seize back the continent of Europe. continued on page 27

t was a moving day, to be sure, but it would be one among many stirring memories made on this special cruise. The more than 100 participants visited historic sites in Spain, Portugal, France, and England. Together, they conversed about current events, shared ideas for conservative victories, strategized on how best to reach young people, enjoyed discussing Ronald Reagan and the ideas of freedom, and rekindled and developed friendships with old and new friends alike. The distinguished speakers on board the cruise included 75th U.S. Attorney General Ed Meese and his wife, Ursula; Hillsdale College historian and free enterprise expert Burt Folsom and his wife, Anita (see sidebar on page 28); National Review editor-at-large and author John O’Sullivan; columnist and author Tony Blankley; Foundation President Ron Robinson and his wife, Clare Boothe Luce Policy Institute President Michelle Easton; Foundation Vice Presidents Richard Kimble and Andrew Coffin; and Reagan Ranch Board of Governors member Eric Hoplin. During educational sessions on the cruise, they each provided remarks on topics ranging from current events in the U.K. to Ronald Reagan’s fight against communism to the state of the Conservative Movement today. After eleven days at sea, the travelers reached London. There, Lady Margaret Thatcher spent an evening greeting the participants during a formal reception at the famed Simpsons-in-the-Strand restaurant in London. Exploring Spain and then Portugal gave us opportunities to visit historical sites that we have taught about many times. What a privilege to commemorate the Normandy landings by walking on Omaha Beach on the 66th anniversary of D-Day. The American cemetery near Omaha Beach was a solemn reminder of the price of freedom and the debt we owe to those who paid it. New Lecture Series Brings Free Enterprise to America’s Business Schools By Patrick X. Coyle, Vice President

n the short time President Obama has been in power, the government has taken over or has a stake in the auto industry, student loans, health care, and our financial institutions. The Russian Communist paper PRAVDA had an eye-opening article about the administration’s policies, noting, “Marx would be proud of what Obama is doing in the United States and around the world.” The chairman of the Business Roundtable, an association of top CEOs that has been close to the Obama administration, recently accused the President and his allies in Congress of creating an “increasingly hostile environment for investment and job creation.” Ivan G. Seidenburg, CEO of Verizon Communications, echoed this sentiment, noting, “By reaching into virtually every sector of economic Governor Mitt Romney inspires life, government business school is injecting uncertainty into the students at Emory University. marketplace and making it harder to raise capital and create new businesses.” Given our President’s regular negativity toward big business and free market ideas, it is not surprising that today’s students are skeptical of the ideas of limited government and free enterprise. A Rasmussen survey showed that 33 percent of young people prefer socialism over capitalism, and 30 percent are undecided! To stop this disturbing trend, Young America’s Foundation, through the generous support of the Richard and Barbara Gaby Foundation, has launched the Free Enterprise Lecture Series to introduce students at America’s leading business schools to prominent entrepreneurs and free market experts. These speakers share their expertise

and promote the free market system as a catalyst for economic solutions to common social problems. The Wall Street Journal’s Stephen Moore (see related story on page 30) launched the lecture series by speaking at UNC—Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. Moore addressed the Obama administration’s failure to effectively solve the economic crisis and how President Reagan improved the economy by lowering tax rates.

An Interview with the Wall Street Journal’s Stephen Moore ––– By Paul Conner, National Journalism Center Intern

he desk in Stephen Moore’s office is piled high with fading copies of the Wall Street Journal and a few stray editions of POLITICO and Newsmax. Three abstract paintings hang on the wall behind his computer monitor, where he intently studies unemployment statistics released by the Department of Labor on a hot afternoon in late summer. (Unemployment among young people this year is the highest on record since the Bureau of Labor Statistics began tracking such figures in 1948.) By the looks of it, Moore is a busy man. He is a member of the editorial board and a senior economics writer at the Wall Street Journal, and just before his sit-down for an interview with Libertas, he was at the Fox News studios recording an interview about the state of the job market. Moore is also the author of six books, including End of Prosperity—a book he calls “a great history of the last 40 years.” With all his responsibilities, Moore finds time to speak several times a year on college campuses through Young America’s Foundation’s Free Enterprise Lecture Series (see related story on page 29). “I think it’s encouraging to see so many conservatives on college campuses,” Moore said from his office in downtown Washington, D.C. “When I went to college at the University of Illinois in the early ’80s, there was a lot of apathy, and conservatives were like endangered species. Moore is also a regular speaker at the Foundation’s college and high school conferences each summer and frequently addresses the National Journalism Center’s internship classes. Prior to his work at the Journal, Moore served in the Reagan administration as research director for President Reagan’s Commission for Privatization. “I didn’t really appreciate how great a president Reagan was until long after,” Moore said. “The more time goes by, the more you realize what a great historical figure he was. When I worked with him in the ’80s, it didn’t seem like a big deal, but now, it’s one of the things I’m most proud of.” “[Reagan] believed in the power of markets and the power of competition,” Moore continued. “He also had a boundless optimism that through hard work and perseverance, we can all get ahead.” In 2006 and 2008, Mr. Moore celebrated President Reagan’s lasting accomplishments as the featured speaker

at the Reagan Ranch Center and Rancho del Cielo on the anniversary of the signing of 1981 tax cuts—legislation signed by President Reagan at Rancho del Cielo. “The Reagan Ranch is a landmark to commemorate these ideas,” Moore said. “This is where the 1981 Economic Recovery Act tax cut was signed into law—thus unleashing 25 years of prosperity and jobs.” Moore has also been an outspoken critic of President Obama’s economic policies, calling the accumulated debt “fiscal child abuse” and “disgusting.” “It’s a hard world out there, and Barack Obama is not making it any easier by destroying jobs and destroying our future,” Moore said. “I think the $3 trillion debt that we’ve rung up under President Obama is a crime against future generations.” Today’s young people are keenly aware of the economic uncertainty facing their generation and our nation, and Stephen Moore’s dedication to reaching students with the importance of free market principles is needed now more than ever.

n my mind, Ronald Reagan was always a great President, but after visiting the Reagan Ranch, I know he would have been a great friend, too. I never had the chance to meet Ronald Reagan in person. I came to Washington years after he left the White House. By that time, he was more of an icon than a real person. I knew him as the man who won the Cold War and defeated communism. His photo was in homes, offices, and museums all around the country. He was a legend. It wasn’t until I walked the same dusty paths he walked and stepped inside his home that I realized he was also a regular guy. Even though he was the leader of the most powerful nation in the world, he preferred to do chores himself rather than calling on a handyman to do it for him. He laid the stone patio, piece by piece, outside his home. He chopped up used telephone poles to build fences around the property. Rather than purchasing a king-sized bed for his and Nancy’s bedroom, he pushed two small, twin-sized beds together and bound them with plastic ties. If you walk down a horse trail that provides a striking view of the distant Pacific Ocean, you’ll see an old rock where the President carved his and Nancy’s initials inside a heart.

The most striking thing about visiting the Reagan Ranch, however, is the sense one gets with how comfortable Ronald Reagan was with himself. For many people, especially those who achieve great recognition and fame, it’s a very hard thing to be alone. They’re constantly seeking approval, praise, and consultation from others. Not Ronald Reagan. When he had to make a tough decision, he often retreated to his Rancho del Cielo—“The Ranch in the Heavens”—to think. It’s where he talked to God. He once said, “Riding on one of the tree-lined trails, or gazing up at the western skies, well, there’s no better way I know of to sort out a problem.” The Ranch is where Ronald Reagan became real to me. Before I came to Santa Barbara, I knew many things about Reagan’s political life but little about how much he loved God, his family, and this beautiful nation. Ronald Reagan was always a man I wanted to know. After visiting his ranch—now protected and preserved by Young America’s Foundation—I feel like I do.
