Students discover that they have talents that mean that careers which once might have seemed out of reach are actually achievable. Learn to Earn explores themes such as career choices, personal skills and talents, recruitment and job interviews, salaries, earnings, tax and the costs of living, financial planning and budgeting. * see overleaf

Sample activities: Choose phrases that define success Describe personal hopes for the future and set goals Explore career choices that are aligned to personality traits and personal interests Recognise and compare cost of living expenses and salaries to create and balance an annual budget Board game to illustrate the relationship between education and achieving personal goals Role-play interview to explore the qualities, skills, qualifications and experience that employers look for in potential employees.

‘Presenting this programme is a challenging but immensely rewarding experience. I wish someone had explained to me at this age what learning and education was all about. You can actually see the penny dropping with some of the students and it’s fantastic to know that you helped to make it happen.’ Bill Harvey Business Adviser, Staffordshire

Young Enterprise is the UK’s leading enterprise and financial education charity. We deliver a range of accessible programmes for 4-25 year olds, from one day masterclasses to year long projects. Since 1962, we’ve worked with over 4 million young people to empower them to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to succeed in the world of work. Each year we work with 250,000 young people, with the support of 5,000 volunteers and 3,500 business partners.

Learner Development Journey Young Enterprise has created a Learner Development Journey which maps intended learning outcomes for all secondary and FE programmes against eight key employability competencies (below) that are highly valued by employers and further learning providers. These competencies are endorsed by findings from the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) and informed by other employability skills related research.
