CONTENTS
Architecture is a medium to transform daily life, bringing joy, energy, and meaning to the spaces we inhabit.
Great architecture goes beyond aesthetics, shaping environments that are not only visually compelling but also deeply engaging for those who experience them. It is about creating spaces that people return to, where every visit offers something new—spaces that resonate on a personal level and become part of a community's identity.
Sustainability and long-term value are essential principles, ensuring that the design remains relevant and impactful over time. Thoughtfully integrating context, function, and human experience, architecture can foster a sense of connection and purpose, offering more than just utility—it becomes a source of inspiration and vitality.
Every space designed is an opportunity to create lasting memories and meaningful experiences, building a relationship between people and the environments they inhabit. This is the architecture worth striving for.

This is the Welcome Center at the Learning Farm located in Ithaca. As the first point of contact for visitors, it was designed to represent the essence of the Learning Farm while harmonizing with the surrounding environment. We identified water as the most prominent natural feature on this site. At Learning Farm, when it rains, water channels form. We connected these channels to our building, intending for our building to be the final destination of these waterpath.
Learning Farm is situated in a steep area, with the welcome center being at the lowest elevation, directing water flow into the building. The water gathers at the water garden, bringing natural elements from the site into the building, aiming to harmonize with nature. This Welcome Center will serve as an important focal point, marking the endpoint of the water feature and the starting point of the Learning Farm.
Design
Welcome centers often play a crucial role in reorganizing how spaces are used. In this case, with the design of the new welcome center, the main hub function will shift from the barn to the welcome center itself. The parking lot in front of the barn will be repurposed as a private parking lot for staff members. A direct path will be created from this parking lot to the welcome center, allowing staff to park there and easily access the offices in the welcome center. This reorganization is likely to streamline operations and improve efficiency by centralizing key functions in the welcome center.
We analyzed seasonal shadows cast by surrounding trees and selected the area with the least shadow coverage to place the garden. We designed the massing around the water garden, adjusting its shape to fit the contours and creating pathways to connect with surrounding roads and the entrance.
Contrast between Outside and Inside
The main entrance faces the entrance of Learning Farm. Vehicles enter this path for parking and building access. We seprated loading dock to the backside. Besides the entrance located at ground level, there are two more entrances. This entrance connects to private parking in front of the barn, allowing worker to access to the building. The entrance connects to the trail.
This Welcome Center is closed to the outside but open to the inside. As people enter the building, they are drawn to a space centered around a water garden, a stark contrast to the exterior surroundings, creating an experience that makes them feel as though they’ve arrived in a completely new place. The deck surrounds the water garden, allowing people to freely move between the deck and the building to enjoy the garden.
There are several layers that can purifying the water and absorbed into the ground. It provided enought depth of concrete wall, which prevents to water goes into the building.

We created variation in the space by adjusting the degree of exposure of the structures. Although all spaces are composed of the same structure, we dynamically configured the space by adjusting the installation and positioning of the ceiling. Broadly categorized into three types: completely hidden, partially exposed, and fully exposed.
“Well
Come”
“Well Come Square” was chosen to reflect both the purpose and design of this welcoming space. At the heart of the building, a central “well” gathers mountain waters, making this spot not just a visitor center but a symbolic space where nature and people meet. By combining “Well” and “Welcome,” the name carries a double meaning, representing the idea that this space welcomes both the flowing waters and visitors alike. The word “Square” highlights the building’s square shape and the sense of openness and community it fosters.
This Welcome Center warmly conveys the first impression of the farm, symbolizing a gathering place where water and visitors come together.
The roof slopes towards the garden, allowing not only mountain runoff but also rainwater to collect in the water garden. The garden’s size was calculated based on the region’s annual rainfall. Natural filtration occurs through aquatic plants and multiple layers of gravel, purifying the collected water, which is then reused within the building as part of a sustainable design.

Buffalo is an area marked by a sharp division between the west and east. Due to various past policies, racial segregation has resulted in the separation of living areas, with Black residents in the east experiencing discrimination. Consequently, Buffalo’s infrastructure and living environment in the east have not developed as significantly as those in the west. The east faces diverse issues, and the focus has been on the food desert in the east.
A proposal is made to revive the economy in the east and create a GREENHOUSE where diverse people in Buffalo can come together to form a community and provide fresh food. This facility will not only provide food but also revitalize Buffalo’s east, foster a strong community, and break down the barriers between the east and west. In the cold and desolate east of Buffalo, this GREENHOUSE will provide warmth, healthy food, and various experiences.
Many grocery stores and restaurants selling fresh produce from greenhouses are located in the west. Additionally, Buffalo is an extremely cold region with plenty of vacant land, but outdoor farming alone is insufficient. In the east, there is a lack of facilities that bring people together for communication and community building. Discrimination against Black individuals still exists, as evidenced by a gunshot incident in front of TOPS on May 14, 2022, resulting in 14 casualties. To eliminate such discrimination, a fusion of the east and west is necessary.
People mainly access the site from the northern side. Utica Station and numerous bus stops are located on the northern side. Consequently, the main entrance was designed on the southern side to facilitate natural influx. For vehicles, parking lots and loading docks were provided on the southern side since vehicles primarily approach from the south.

The first floor features a market, memorial gallery, multipurpose hall, and farm. Upon entering the building, people experience a large open void space surrounded by various plants, creating a sense of freshness. Various programs such as shopping, cultural performances, exhibitions, and more take place freely.
The second floor serves as the main farming area. Wooden decks are arranged between the farms, hosting activities like an open kitchen, open market, and open lectures. Surrounded by plants in an unobstructed space, people can freely communicate and engage in community activities.
The third floor is designed with slightly more private spaces, including a cooking classroom, restaurant, and lecture room. In the open space, a co-working space has been incorporated.
This building consists of three floors. The first floor is the most public, and as you go up the floors, slightly smaller-scale private activities take place. Accordingly, the space on the first floor is designed to be the most open, while the higher floors are composed of compartmentalized spaces. The main concept of this building revolves around two elements.
First is the form where small wooden boxes are embedded in a large glass box. The suspended boxes provide dynamic spaces and, as they need ample sunlight, are made of glass to avoid disrupting the greenhouse that must be made of glass. We positioned private programs in these boxes.
The second element is the memorial path. Simply creating a memorial space does not ensure that it will be remembered by people. Therefore, we inserted a memorial path that seamlessly connects the greenhouse and TOPS from the street, creating a separation between the building as a memorial-centric space and a community-centric space.

The story is about a dusty Ireland made up of dirt and sweat, hard work and poverty.
Mining activities began through mining veins discovered in the 19th century, and the mining activities, which were centered on manpower, were created along the flow of the mining veins, and underground passages were formed.
The traces of mining activities represent the history of Ireland's industrial revolution, along with its beautiful natural scenery, while also showing their painful history. Also, outcropped bedrocks in the terrain are indicators of Ireland longer than 19th century.
We want to focus more on the historical traces and the outcropped bedrocks of Allihies. We want to show the vivid traces of history. The images of the ruins shown through these traces are no longer abandoned and neglected, but can vividly convey history and tell their stories.
Visitors start their journey by approaching the service center through a road that divides the complex north and south. Its restaurants and lobbies will bring people together and head to the wellness and accommodation areas in the west according to their respective purposes.
To the east, a road starts from the service center, passes through the square where traces of mining activities can be seen, and enters the museum space. Visitors go through a calming process before seeing a full-fledged exhibition in a small museum. Passing through this place, you will find spaces where traces of mining activities are boldly revealed, and visitors pass through the road between these traces to see the exhibits of traces, and travel to meditation and yoga spaces located in the north according to their purpose.
An outdoor deck space is formed between the roads formed by accepting the contour line, so visitors can breathe here and enjoy the scenery. Entering the final destination, meditation and yoga space, the journey ends with meditation and yoga activities while enjoying the scenery spread south along this road, continuing to the inside of the outside road.
Depending on the analysis, the site is largely divided into two areas. The first is a space where people can relax while appreciating the view of nature, and the second is a space where they can feel the history of the mines and Ireland, feel their pain in the past, and meditate. These two areas are divided based on the service center. Based on the service center, the south is the first area and the north is the second area. Therefore, people arrive at the service center first and decide where to go.
After the mining activity, various traces and grounds are left unattended in the area. These traces not only show the appearance of mining activities, but also have the flow of old history. We wanted to concentrate on the traces of land in this area. We marked the elements on the ground and cut them at intervals of 10 meters. After planarizing a total of 48 crosssections, each element was connected by a line, and a crosssectional analysis map was created. Through this map, we seperated areas according to their characteristics and placed mass according to those areas.
The first element is the bedrock exposure. Over the years, the bedrocks that laid the foundation were exposed above the ground. The bedrock formed in this way becomes an element that can show Ireland a long time ago. The second element is traces of mining activity. Through mining activities in the 19th century, many traces were created everywhere as the land was dug and detbris was piled up. These traces are vivid elements that can show mining activity up to recently. These two elements have a flow through the underground passage used by the site in the past. Such information is combined to become a criterion for distinguishing areas. The area where the outcropped bedrock is located, the building should be avoided as much as possible, and the area with many traces becomes an area that we should actively show. In the past, mining activities were active, so it can be divided into areas that can show history and do not. And it is further subdivided according to the characteristics and divided into various areas. Various programs are assigned to these divided areas.
Traces of Mine
'Mine museum' serves as an information center where you can check the entire plan of the town of Allihies and get information on the overall viewing before the full-scale exhibition begins. As soon as this space enters, the visible scene will be part of mine seen through a skylight. Before watching the full-fledged exhibition, it can arouse expectations from visitors, and it will also have the effect of calming your mind by looking at the mine in the frame.
On the wall, you can see some of the bedrock rising from deep in the ground of the Allihies. In fact, traces of mining activities are preserved in this bedrock, so visitors can be informed of the start of this exhibition.
The museum's goal is to show more details of the mining traces. When you enter the entrance of the museum, you will see the copper mine first. After looking around the mine from the outside, you can see the expanded glass box. This is not only more helpful in imagining the previous appearance of mine, but also a better reminder of the time when mining activities were active. You can enter the interior of the mine expanded by the glass box and observe the interior more deeply through the windows
inside. It comes out of the mine and can be observed as it passes by the most visible mining holes among the traces. And you can observe other mines in this area through viewing spots. At the end of this process, there is a way to go up to the meditation. Or you can cross a bridge where you can cross the holes in the mine and see more traces of mining activity.
Meditation Center
This space will be the ultimate goal of this plan. The horizontally long mass formed along the contour serves as an observatory where you can enjoy the entire scenery of Allihies Village, including accommodation, wellness, museum, and mine while also showing the wide terrain and sea before your eyes. Therefore, visitors will be able to participate in small yoga classes and sit on the ground looking at the vast scenery and be lost in thought. In addition, visitors can go up to the rooftop through the stairs in the middle and enjoy the wider view.
The wellness space, accommodation, and service center are located around it and a large pool of water and a wide sea are spread out. These spaces focused on the connectivity between the three programs that they were the spaces where visitors should be able to stay and relax for the longest time when they stopped by Allihies. First, the service center was placed because it should have the best access to the road that passes vertically through the site. In addition, along the road formed on both sides of the service center, wellness space is located on the west side and accommodation facilities are located
on the south side, emphasizing the connection to two facilities. The wellness center offers a comfortable rest while appreciating the natural terrain of the Allihies area as it is through a large pool of water and panoramic windows planned for viewing the stone pile. People can walk through the linear mass and experience various spaces. Finally, in the case of accommodation facilities, standard rooms are attached in a general configuration with a terrace, and whirlpools are basically placed on the terrace of suites and luxury suites, allowing people to experience water space while looking at the wide sea.

04. Sound Wave Bridge : the
sound wave
Year : 2022
Type : Facade design, Sound interaction, Sculpture
People usually perceive space only visually. However, recognizing space is largely influenced by many invisible factors such as hearing, smell, and touch etc.
I noted the effect of sound on spatial perception. People perceive space differently depending on the sound they hear. Even if it is the same space, when a low and heavy sound is heard, the space feels a little grander and wider, but on the contrary, when a high and loud sound is heard, it often feels narrow. As such, sound has a great influence on space perception.
I visualized sound and made it facade in order to represent space by auditory elements rather than visual elements. There are various elements in sound such as loudness, pitch, timbre, and atmosphere. I selected the loudness and pitch among them and designed.
When a person crosses the bridge from north to south of the Han River, people can feel the sound of Seoul sequentially as you pass the bridge by dividing seven Seoul noise measurement points from north to south.
It is a bridge that crosses the Han River. People only think of the bridge as a passageway. However, the Han River Bridge is a really important factor both historically and locally in Seoul. I tried to capture Seoul on these bridges. The facade at the top of the bridge was designed to receive sound information from various points representing Seoul and move accordingly.
to the north of the Han River to the south of the Han River
It is a structure with a streamlined shape of a large parabola. The structure supports the bridge and is connected to a moving panel, wire, and motor
It is composed of panels of four colors. The type of sound is different for each color, and the angle of the panel varies according to the degree of a predetermined decibel for each sound.
People can feel the facade moving through the bridge. They can feel the sound of Seoul with their eyes and various light transmitted through the panel is reflected on the bridge, and the light changes as the facade moves.
People walk through the bridge. Light is transmitted through the panel and reflected on the bridge
05. Sodam
Sodam is a traditional liquor brewery and cultural facility located in Pil-dong. Brewers can brew and sell at this facility. Visitors can acquire and experience knowledge about traditional liquor and watch the brewing process at this cultural facilities. Currently, the Korean traditional liquor market is very economically hard and is not well-known abroad.
Through this facilities, I hope that it will be the basis for promoting traditional liquor by supporting brewers and inducing the revival of the Korean liquor market and overseas tourists to visit. It also aims to provide visitors with new cultural facilities that were not in Korea.
It is a site located in Pil-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul. A large road is located in the west, and Namsangol Park is located in the east. It will be the flow of people entering mainly from the south of the site.
The site located on the side of the road and the site adjacent to the park were zoned into a public zone and a semi-public zone in the center. There are three major yards, which are connected to each of them.
‘Sodam’ is largely composed of spaces with three characteristics.
The first is the space for brewers, the second is the space for visitors who come for viewing, and finally the overlapping space of the two spaces. Therefore, the focus was the most on the separation of movements of each user.
The blue line is for workers and the orange line is for visitors. The movement lines do not overlap in the space only for each other, and the place where the two lines pass together is a space used together. Facilities lead to the overall flow, but only the desired facilities can be selectively used by separately providing entrances. They can freely watch the facility in separate and continuous movements.
In each space, the movements of workers and visitors are completely separated, and the movements overlap only in the space they use together. Efficient movement and management are possible through circulation that do not interfere with each other.

various spatial experiences as they move the space according to the sequence. If visitors want to use all the facilities, the flow will continue in the order of lobby, museum, experience space, tour course, and tap house. However, individual movements leading to each can be prepared and moved directly to the desired facility.
Tap House is connected to Namsangol Park located on the east side, providing a space for drinking traditional liquor from the outside. Visitors can go to the subway station through Namsangol Park or return to the entrance through a road located in the south.
'Sarang madang' is a space to greet people. It is composed of water and walls, and it raises questions through the process of blocking and opening the eyes of visitors.
'An madang' is a space used by outsiders and residents together. Therefore, in Sodam, this yard is connected to the space used by visitors and workers, and it is 'madang' that allows them to meet as one.
'Duit madang' is a space that can be transformed into a variety of uses. In Sodam, a space for people to enjoy and drink freely is provided in connection with tap House and Namsangol Park located in the back.

Worker
Workers use the brewery and office located on the third floor alone. And they use the experience space on the second floor and the tap house on the fifth floor, which are spaces used with visitors. Therefore, workers use three main routes. It is a single route from the underground parking lot to the brewery directly, a route that can enter the brewery from the outside, and a route that moves to the overlapping space.

The fourth floor is a space where visitors can watch the work process. Using the high floor height of the third floor, it is designed to overlook the fourth floor and the third and fourth floors are only connected visually. Due to the characteristic of the brewery where temperature control is important, the courtyard is designed using a high floor height for relaxation in the hallway for workers who have to work blocked from the outside. Outside light enters through the ceiling of the courtyard.

The third floor is designed to allow workers to brew without any disruptions from visitors. The layout features all the facilities necessary for the brewing process, arranged in a logical sequence, and is seamlessly connected to the office. This ensures that workers can efficiently carry out the entire process.
Traditionally, madang is an important factor in the form of Korean housing. Various Madang have their own characteristics and are located in different locations. The traditional madang is located horizontally, but I newly interpreted it according to this site and arranged it vertically. Madang and each programs were connected. It was intended to contain Korean elements in the building, and it was chosen as a 'Madang'. In traditional Korean architecture, madang is a really important factor. Each of them has a characteristic, and madang and building naturally connect. So, communication between the inside and the outside is free. Using this, it was intended to allow visitors and workers to communicate naturally through madang.

Previously, it was a site that could only serve as an aisle as a narrow and long road. This road was intended to be dynamically changed using various modules. Since it is a narrow shape, I thought that the free and variable shape of the module type was appropriate rather than the fixed heavy building shape. In addition, if modules of various sizes are utilized, the road can be made more interesting. Various roads were created through various arrangements not only horizontally but also vertically.
It is an alley that you have to pass to enter the Seoul Forest from the direction of Seongsu-dong. It was a narrow road to build a large building, but it was too long and boring to leave without anything. However, this road is an important bumper space connecting the Seoul Forest and the factory site. Seongsu-dong is a neighborhood where a large number of brick factories and handmade shoe factories were located in the past. However, as cafes are built
and gentrification occurs, the existing natives are being pushed out. Therefore, we intend to support the production and sale of handmade shoe craftsmen who are pushed to this site and provide experience facilities and things to enjoy for those heading to the Seoul Forest. The project was planned to create a new cultural forest on the way to Seoul Forest.
The Site is about 25m wide and 120m long, with narrow and long features. Therefore, it was judged that a light and flexible module form was appropriate rather than a large and settled bulding. Also, wanted to give the feeling of a dynamic and fun alleyway because it was a street where poeple passed by. People can take many different paths. They can walk between the modules, move vertically and variously through stairs installed outside, or enjoy this alley by passing through various modules.
The main concept of this design is connectivity. The site will play an important role as an important site connecting Seoul Forest and the factory. Currently, the factory and the Seoul Forest are not connected geographically and programatically at all, but through this design, want to creat a flow that can naturally connect from factories to Seoul forest.
There are three sizes 6000 X 5000, 6000 X 8000, and 6000 X 10000 and three types : solid, void and combination of soild and void. Through the diagram on the left, it represents various spaces that come out when they are combined.

Three glass cores connected from the ground to the rooftop are located to facilitate visitor access. However, the building has exterior and interior stairs that connect various floors, which will instill users' expectations for the next space. It provides a variety of movements, enabling a rich space experience. The shape of the building is varied vertically and horizontally, giving people the pleasure of moving.
Many external spaces were arranged through void modules. Breaking down the boundaries between indoor and outdoor areas through the exterior deck. The deck is not for simple movement, but for small permanent programs such as busking, exhibitions, and markets. Therefore, people do not move separated spaces through the corridor, but naturally move to the next space while enjoying a series of programs.
A modern interpretation of ‘Menagerie’
The menagerie was used to display exotic animals and luxuries to reveal and show off one's. We tried to find the concept of this remote place in modern times. In modern times, one can easily boast of one's wealth and presence through SNS. They want to express their existence to people by showing them an experience that others cannot easily do or their own. Therefore, we thought that modern menagerie was a form of people displaying their time on SNS.

What people really want to show off and brag about is not just wealth, but the time they have spent. Here, we brought the concept of time and proceeded with the work. The purpose of this exhibition is not just to watch, but to directly participate and let people experience the concept of menagerie is to induce people to take pictures at various spots and upload them to SNS.
We created a circulation where people went into this space themselves. It gives a mysterious feeling as it passes between chairs and foams placed in various heights and positions. We induce photography by providing a spot where you can take and view pictures in these exhibits.
The ultimate purpose of this exhibition is not only to watch, but also to induce photography at the provided spot and display it on your SNS. Through this process, people can directly experience menagerie by showing off their time on SNS.
Urethane foam painted in various colors means people's decorated time. When people show off themselves on SNS, they decorate their time beautifully and only show good sides. This is expressed in beautifully colored urethane foam, and it is made in various forms to express the different times that people have spent this time difference.
When people enter the white exhibition space on all sides, many chairs in various locations, shadows covering the walls caused by light, and colorful forms in contrast are noticeable. According to the meaning of our reinterpretation of menagerie as a modern perspective, each component contains a corresponding meaning.
White painted chairs are everywhere. Chairs are the space where people spend the most time of the day. Sitting at the table, eating, sitting on the bus, moving, and sitting on the sofa spending their time. Therefore, we defined the object called chair as the time spent by an individual.
The shadows of piled chairs and urethane foam are reflected on the white wall by the installed lighting, creating a fantastic atmosphere.
