NEW S OF T H E WORL D L EA DER IN ESS ENTIAL OI L S
A MESSAGE FROM MARY Hello, my friends, In 1992 Gary made the statement, “A few years down the road from now, you are going to see Young Living with 3-5 million distributors worldwide because we’ve got products that people don’t want to walk away from. You are going to set an example for the world to follow. You distributors are trend setters for the ’90s, for this new network marketing idea, and for a new concept in health care and personal care products. It’s really exciting to see the potential and possibilities that all of you have.” Now in 2019, we’ve surpassed Gary’s predictions. When Gary gave Jared the directive that evolved into our worldwide 5×5 Pledge, a whirlwind was set in motion. In February we had the Academy graduation, the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Ecuador’s new offices and Experience Centre, and the country opening of Colombia. We also celebrated the 20-year anniversary of Australia, with truly monumental achievements under the dynamic leadership of our General Manager, Kristen Tod. In March we headed to the cold north of Fort Nelson, Canada, to join in the winter festival. It was a way for us in Young Living to thank the people of Fort Nelson for their help and support in building our distillery operation and for the residents of Fort Nelson to learn more about us and what we do. The snow activities were fun and exhilarating with a little music and dancing to keep everyone warmed up, and the hot cider was wonderful. Could we call this the warmup for the rest of the year? As I travel to many of these great events that are on the horizon, I look forward to seeing many of you there. My best to all,
FLAWLESS INGREDIENTS, FLAWLESS LOOKS Our Savvy Minerals line leads the clean beauty movement If you’re conscientious about the products you bring into your life, buying makeup has probably always been a frustrating game of weighing one harsh ingredient against another and deliberating if you really want to compromise your standards for that trendy lipstick shade. Savvy Minerals® is eliminating that makeup aisle crisis with industry-leading clean beauty in shades so good, you’ll feel like you’re getting away with something. Savvy Minerals isn’t just continuing Young Living’s 25-year tradition of crafting pure, effective products—it’s defining and leading the clean beauty movement. Our goal? Offer a range that doesn’t make you choose between performance and freedom from harsh chemicals, because for us, true clean beauty is about both. Every Savvy Minerals product gives you peace of mind as well as powerful color payoff, all-day wear, easy application, and beautiful results that let the real you shine.
Defining what clean makeup is starts by defining what it isn’t. We’ve used the European Union’s list of more than 1,300 banned personal care ingredients as a jumping-off point and added some of our own to create a list of ingredients you’ll never find in Savvy Minerals products. Here are just a few mainstream ingredients our formulas exclude: Bismuth oxychloride A compound of the heavy metal bismuth, bismuth oxychloride is a pigment that can cause skin irritation. Formaldehyde A recognized human carcinogen, formaldehyde is commonly used as a preservative. Parabens Parabens are often used to prevent mold, fungus, and bacteria growth. With estrogen-mimicking properties, however, parabens have been connected to breast cancer. Phthalates Phthalates are used as a solvent and fixative in synthetic fragrances but are also known as endocrine disruptors that have been linked to fertility issues, hormone imbalances, developmental problems, and more. Red 7 lake A bright red pigment, red 7 lake is derived from coal tar. As if its origins weren’t dirty enough, it can trigger allergic reactions. Talc Often used as a base for powder cosmetics, talc is associated with the development of some cancers. In its natural form, it also contains asbestos. These common ingredients are just a peek at what you’ll never find in Savvy Minerals, but it gets even better. We believe that clean beauty is kind beauty. Savvy Minerals products also proudly bear the designation “Not tested on animals.” So while you’re dodging the harsh chemicals, you’re also showing our furry friends some love. Want to know more? THE YOUNG LIVING ACADEMY CELEBRATES 10 YEARS Commemorating a decade of empowering children through wellness and educational opportunities Over a decade ago, Young Living Founder D. Gary Young traveled along a dirt road in Ecuador in search of perfect farmland. As he drove into the small tropical community of Chongon, he noticed 42 children running in and out of a small, rugged brick building that lacked a door or windows. He soon realized this was the community’s school—one room in which students in kindergarten through sixth grade learned from volunteer teachers. Deeply moved by what he’d witnessed, Gary set out to empower this community—and the future leaders of Ecuador—by building a new, world-class school. On April 14, 2009, the Young Living Academy opened its doors for the first time, welcoming over 90 students in first through sixth grade. This occasion also marked the beginning of The D. Gary Young, Young Living Foundation. As the school grew, so did Gary’s understanding of the community’s need. It became clear that the financial burden of sending children to school was often enough for families to keep their children at home. To help relieve this burden, Young Living launched the Sponsor-a-Student program in September 2011. Under this initiative, Young Living members donated money each month to cover their students’ expenses for tuition, two meals per day, uniforms, school supplies, and much more. The next major improvement to the school’s grounds was the addition of a high school. This expansion to the existing
“This is what Young Living is about—changing the world one person at a time.” —D. Gary Young building added five classrooms, a school library, a teacher workroom, a science lab, and additional bathrooms. With the high school up and running, the Academy celebrated its first graduation ceremony on March 9, 2016. Since then, 79 students have graduated from the Academy in four graduating classes. Gary and Mary’s vision of empowering the future leaders of Ecuador transcends high school graduation; this year the Foundation unveiled the first university scholarship program. Now graduates of the Academy will have the opportunity to apply for scholarships to offset the costs of higher education, truly empowering students to achieve their dreams.
