NEW S OF T H E WORL D L EA DER IN ESS ENTIAL OI L S
A MESSAGE FROM MARY Hello, My Friends, What a lot of excitement we’ve had celebrating 10 years for the Young Living Academy. It seems like yesterday when we were interviewing teachers and planning our first school year. Gary was even then determined to have a complete high school curriculum so that our students could start preschool and graduate from high school with our standard of excellence. Our school has grown so much and is now recognized as an international bilingual school, which is evident with the accomplishments of our students. Now we are watching them as they progress through higher education and start to mark their way in helping their country. With the completion of our fourth high school graduating class this past February, we truly see Gary’s vision come to fruition. In addition to celebrating yet another graduating class from the Young Living Academy, we also recently had a wonderful time in Spain getting acquainted with more of our Diamonds as their retreat took them to the remote village of Almaden de la Plata, north of Seville, to visit our Vida de Seville Partner Farm and Distillery. Visiting the distillery was an educational experience because this is a high-tech facility where aroma constituents of many different plants are also extracted for the perfume industry. Everyone gained a tremendous appreciation for this part of our business. Spending that time at our partner farm and distillery reminded me of a time in Young Living’s earliest days when Gary and I spent two days helping to distill frankincense. We learned about oil extraction from resin, which is very different from plant extraction. It is quite complex compared to our simple oil distillation. This process is actually the same for Elemi, which, like Frankincense, requires distilling the plant’s precious resin. Elemi has quickly become one of my favorite essential oils. If you are not familiar with Elemi, you’re missing out on the benefits of this beautiful oil. I learned that it is widely used in the cosmetic industry in Europe for soothing the skin and enhancing its youthfulness. With using Sandalwood in the morning and Elemi at night, I’ve found a perfect regimen, even though I still like to use different oils as well. Do a little research and you’ll be amazed at what this oil can do for you. Let’s keep oiling together,

PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR EDUCATION IN NEPAL The Young Living Foundation’s new Nepal projects make progress
Restoring schools and hope throughout the Tanahun district The D. Gary Young, Young Living Foundation has been working hard to continue restoration efforts in Nepal in the aftermath of the 2015 earthquakes. After rebuilding the village of Yarsa, the Young Living Foundation has devoted its work to providing education opportunities to students in Nepal through the restoration of 16 schools across the Tanahun district. Since January of this year, the Foundation has led two service trips to work on the schools. In between these trips, construction efforts continue, bolstered by local workers, volunteers, parents, and Foundation Nepal staff. In just seven months, four schools have been successfully completed. Restoring the Panchamuni Secondary School was the biggest project. The school had been forced to turn away 800 students due to lack of space, as a large portion of their school was decimated in the 2015 earthquakes. To
restore the school to maximum capacity, the Foundation teams built a two-story building with 16 new classrooms. Now the principal says they will be able to make this school a model school in the district. The Janakalyan Secondary School received a new twostory building, which now houses six classrooms, a library, and a computer lab. The improvements and expansion will allow the school to almost double its capacity, providing opportunity to 200-250 new students in the region who come from poverty-stricken communities. The school’s principal expressed immense gratitude for how quickly the new building was completed, a feat that would have taken over five years if the school had to raise the funds and complete the construction on its own. The Shukla Basic School is one of the only facilities in the Tanahun district to accept students with disabilities.

Immediate goals for the company are to use less packaging, reduce the use of paper, implement a water-recycling system, and educate members and employees on how to reduce waste. Dream 1000 promotion* Excitement echoed throughout the event when we revealed our new promotion, Dream 1000, which offers 1,000 grand prizes and even more product prizes, simply for growing your Young Living business. Because of the special needs of the students at the school, the Foundation teams built a fence and gate surrounding the grounds, a feature critical to the safety of the 120 students who attend. With improved security of the new perimeter, students will have more opportunities to get involved with extracurricular activities and sports. Restoration efforts added four new classrooms to the Khaireni Secondary School. These improvements will boost the quality of education to students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Changes and upgrades at all three schools provide new educational opportunities to children in Nepal. Thanks to the generosity of Young Living members and the support of local communities, more children than ever will have access to highquality education.

“Every night I use Thieves® Roll-On on the bottoms of my feet. Then I diffuse Peppermint and R.C.™ and apply Peace & Calming®. Add that to a few minutes using a calming app that plays the sounds of rushing water, and my routine works like a charm.” —Bonnie D. “To wind down at night, I use Stress Away™ Roll-On. I take a nice, relaxing shower and then apply the oil to my wrists and down the back of my neck. Then I take four deep breaths, inhaling the scent from my wrists. Why four? It just happened one time and I have stuck with it. This gets me feeling ready for bed, and I usually sleep soundly through the night. Two years and I’ve never missed a night of Stress Away!” —Jeanine L. “I use a drop of White Angelica™ before I start my bedtime routine. Then I diffuse Frankincense, Cedarwood, and Lavender as I drift off to sleep.” —Holly S. “I love to inhale Surrender™ and apply it to my neck and feet before bedtime. It smells amazing! I also rotate RutaVaLa™ and Tranquil™ Roll-Ons.” —Michelle C. “I wind down at night with Lavender and Cedarwood in my diffuser and Valor® on my spine. I also apply any other oils that feel right for the day, followed by KidScents® Lotion.” —Samantha K. “I brush my daughter’s curly hair with a leave-in conditioning spray that has Lavender and Cedarwood added, and I make a ‘monster spray’ for my kids made with Lavender essential oil. Once my kids wind down, I use Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood™ in my moisturizer and diffuse Lavender, Northern Lights Black Spruce, and Cedarwood.” —Veronica G.

Members in Japan are spreading their love of Young Living and sharing whole-life wellness with friends and family. It’s a passion with a long history. In 2020 YL Japan will celebrate its 20th anniversary and host members from Australia to Taiwan at the Asia Pacific (APAC) Convention in Kobe. Passionate members in the market have even more reason to celebrate: YL Japan’s Raindrop Technique® drought is over! The collection was out of stock for three years due to regulation issues. In August 2018 YL relaunched the kit—just in time for the Raindrop Technique event this past March. Members headed to Osaka and Tokyo for training by Senior Global Educator Tamara Packer, who teaches the technique to members around the world. Along with embracing the Young Living lifestyle—including the Raindrop Technique—for nearly 20 years, members in Japan have long admired Young Living Founder D. Gary Young for his passion, dedication, and innovation. To celebrate him, YL Japan launched a new video at the Japan Premier last October. The video focused on the concept of shokunin, or “master of profession,” and highlighted Gary as YL’s shokunin—a man who devoted his life to his craft. YL Japan will use the video in future trainings and events. Hold on to your Helichrysum—2020 is going to be an extraordinary year for YL Japan! Japan’s essential oil movement is gaining momentum, and we’re thrilled to see what next year will bring.

GLUTEN-FREE CARROT CAKE WAFFLES INGREDIENTS For the carrot cake waffles: 1½ cups Gary’s True Grit® GlutenFree Pancake and Waffle Mix 2 teaspoons baking powder ¼ teaspoon cinnamon ½ teaspoon sea salt ¼ cup maple syrup 2 tablespoons Young Living Yacon Syrup
2 large eggs ¼ cup coconut oil, melted (plus more for waffle iron) 1 cup light coconut milk 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 drop Cinnamon Bark Vitality™ essential oil 1 drop Nutmeg Vitality essential oil 2 medium carrots, finely shredded
¼ cup flaked coconut 2 ounces walnuts, finely chopped (plus more to serve) Raisins to serve Cream cheese syrup to serve
(recipe below)
For the cream cheese syrup: 4 ounces cream cheese (either vegan almond cream cheese or regular) 2 tablespoons maple syrup 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1-2 tablespoons coconut milk
DIRECTIONS
Makes 4-6 round Belgian waffles
• In a large bowl, whisk together the waffle mix, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, Yacon Syrup, eggs, melted coconut oil, coconut milk, vanilla extract, and essential oils until smooth. Stir the egg mixture into the flour mixture and mix well to combine. Add the shredded carrots, flaked coconut, and walnuts and stir to combine. Let the batter sit for 10 minutes. In the meantime, make the cream cheese syrup. • In a small bowl, beat together the cream cheese, maple syrup, and lemon juice until smooth. Whisk in the coconut milk as necessary to create a pourable consistency. • Heat a waffle iron at medium heat and brush with melted coconut oil. Pour about ¼ cup of batter onto the waffle iron and close. Cook until the waffle is golden brown and crisp, about 4 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack set on a baking sheet in a low-temperature oven to keep warm. Repeat with the remaining batter. • Top with raisins, more walnuts, and cream cheese syrup. Serve warm.
What’s better than your favorite series on demand? How about steam on demand? We’re steaming it live at the Highland Flats Tree Farm and Distillery in Naples, Idaho. Last summer the farm replaced the distillery’s steam boiler with two steam generators. Installing steam generators at a corporate-owned farm is a company first to improve efficiency and reduce waste. The steam boiler acts as a large reservoir of steam and hot water. Because the reservoir holds about 3,000 gallons, the boiler requires a lot of heat and supervision to safely maintain correct temperatures and pressures. Conversely, the steam generators heat water—about 30 gallons total—and create steam on demand with less energy and supervision, plus these other major improvements: • Reduced risk. Steam generators are inherently safe, improving peace of mind for those on site. • Reduced emissions. Generator burners produce ultra-low NOx and CO emissions and use a flue gas recirculation system that meets strict air-quality standards worldwide. • Reduced water waste. Steam generators waste 90 percent less water and lose less heat than a traditional steam boiler. • Improved steam quality. Steam generators separate moist and dry steam and deliver the “drier” steam—ideal for extracting essential oils from coniferous materials—to the distillery, increasing yield. • Better fuel efficiency. Because water is heated on demand, burners fire for less time while delivering steam to the stills. • Redundancy in steam supply. The distilling must go on! Two generators reduce the risk of interruption in production due to mechanical issues. As this installation continues to be successful, on demand will be in high demand—this first won’t be the last. Highland Flats is raising the bar of distillery innovation. Sign up for the Spring Planting and Winter Harvest events for an opportunity to see the generators in action.
