Harvey and Irma hit the South, as well as the
those affected. You have read reports, watched videos of rescues, and viewed photographs of the devastation. Perhaps you or someone you love has been affected and knows firsthand the experiences we watch from afar. All of us at Young Living extend our sympathy and love. Please know that our prayers are with you. The record-breaking rainfall, deadly winds, earthquakes, fatalities, and damage to homes and businesses are overwhelming; so, too, has been the response from people like you. I feel privileged to have our Young Living Foundation take care of members wherever disaster strikes. We not only want to help our members, but we look to help non-members as well. I am proud of the disaster response work we have done across the world and am deeply impressed by those who have stepped up to help with these huge efforts. If you have been on the receiving end, know that we feel honored to help wherever we can. If we have learned anything from these tragedies, it’s that these cities, towns, and communities will need help in the coming months and years. People will have to mourn, rebuild, throw away treasures, find new transportation, and navigate changes in their lives. With our work through the Foundation, we are attempting to make

My heart goes out to everyone who was impacted by Hurricane Harvey. They are true survivors, and I am amazed at the strength they have after enduring such a horrible disaster.” Alison Moore, a copywriter on the Marketing Communications team, found beauty in the aftermath. “In the middle of heartbreak and grief, I was blown away by the courage and kindness I saw from the people of Texas,” she explained. “We wanted to take care of those we met, but they ended up taking care of us, too. It was a beautiful reminder that we can bring happiness not only by helping others but also by accepting the love and kindness others want to share.”

Strength, resilience, and courage have abounded since September 19. In the wake of a 7.1-magnitude earthquake, members around the world have come together to strengthen and support the people of Mexico. With a promise from The D. Gary Young, Young Living Foundation to match up to $25,000, generous members from all over the world raised over $35,000. We have seen the fortitude of our members through these efforts. Our Young Living Mexico City office was transformed into a donation dropoff and distribution center; and products such as NingXia Red®, Thieves® Waterless Hand Purifier, and Wolfberry Crisp bars were flown down to support the relief work.

WILD RICE WITH MUSHROOMS, CRANBERRIES, AND PECANS INGREDIENTS 1 cup wild rice ½ cup pecans, chopped 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 2–3 medium stalks of celery, finely sliced ½ pound mixed mushrooms (like cremini and shitake), stems removed and thinly sliced 1 teaspoon fine sea salt Freshly ground black pepper ¼ cup mushroom or vegetable stock ¼ cup dried cranberries ¼ cup golden raisins 2 drops Celery Seed Vitality™ essential oil 1 drop Sage Vitality essential oil 2 tablespoons flat-leaf parsley, chopped 2 green onions, finely chopped Coarse salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
INSTRUCTIONS Yield: 4–6 servings • Cook rice according to package instructions, until just tender. Drain any excess liquid. Transfer to a bowl and set aside. • While rice cooks, preheat oven to 350°F. Place pecans on baking sheet and toast until browned and fragrant, 4–5 minutes. Set aside and let cool. • Heat half the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced celery and sauté, stirring constantly for 1–2 minutes. Add remaining oil along with sliced mushrooms, salt, and a generous pinch of pepper. Cook, stirring frequently, until mushrooms have softened, about 5 minutes. Add the cooked rice, stock, cranberries, golden raisins, and essential oils. Cover and simmer until liquid has evaporated, about 2–3 minutes. Stir in parsley. • Add toasted pecans and green onions. Season with additional salt and pepper, if desired.
hard work and well-earned accomplishments with this year’s convention in Guadalajara and the launch of several new products. As we continue to admire our members in Mexico, through their resilience in the aftermath of the earthquake and as they expand and thrive within the Young Living family, we are bound to see more leaders and members develop all over the country. We are excited to see what the rest of 2017 and 2018 bring for the Mexico market and the new heights they will reach!
THE SOURCING PILLAR With Chief Supply Chain Officer Lauren Walker Pure, authentic oils have always been a hallmark of Young Living. As we continue to grow, the need for greater access to high-quality botanicals increases. We spoke with Chief Supply Chain Officer Lauren Walker about the importance of Sourcing in the three pillars of our Seed to Seal® program, our partner farm in Taiwan, and how Young Living’s growth affects our sourcing. The updated Seed to Seal program we announced at the 2017 International Grand Convention lets us share a more complete story of Young Living’s quality commitment. Standing firm with our other pillars, Science and Standards, Sourcing is foundational to providing the high-quality products our members count on. This includes the botanicals we source from Young Living-owned farms, partner farms, and Seed to Seal-certified suppliers. Lauren noted, “We spend time with every [company] who supplies us oil…It’s what keeps integrity strong. We hold them to high standards. They meet those expectations because of our relationships with them.” One example of Young Living’s exemplary sourcing comes from our partner farm in Taiwan. Providing the botanicals for some of our favorite oils and blends, including Jade Lemon™ and Valor®, the Taiwan farm gives us an advantage as demand continues to grow for our premium products. “Young Living has grown tremendously over the last several years, and there is no end in sight,” said Lauren. “It’s truly exciting. The scary part is the amount of oil it's going to take to make sure that we have products available…It's up to us to be very disciplined and think strategically about where the industry [is] growing.” Dedicated foresight from Lauren and her team and their ongoing efforts within the Sourcing pillar allow Young Living to cultivate and maintain the important relationships necessary to innovate new oils and keep up with increasing demand for our products. To learn more about the Sourcing pillar and to hear the full-length interview with Lauren, check out the Drop of Inspiration podcast episode at bit.ly/2xgRmTK.
