NEW S OF T H E WORL D L EA DER IN ESS ENTIAL OI L S
FOUNDER’S MESSAGE NEW YOUNG LIVING PRESIDENT, JARED TURNER Part 2 of an exclusive interview with YL President Jared Turner Hello, my friends, Homes in Yarsa, Nepal, are being built at a quicker pace than ever before; and by this time next month, we project that all homes will have their walls up, and those involved in the member-led service trip will be helping with roofing and finish work. My heart is full of gratitude and joy thinking about the many members who joined with me in dedication and commitment to help rebuild this city. I remember when I was first asked if I would take time to visit this impoverished country to assess the destruction caused by multiple earthquakes to see if I had any ideas about how we could help these people and relieve some of their suffering. My time was tight and I really didn’t have room in my schedule, but I felt impelled to go. I had never been to Nepal before, so this was a new experience for me. When we first landed, the stench of burning and decay was ever so faint in the air, giving an eerie feeling of what I was about to see. We traveled to several villages, seeing the same devastation. I was overwhelmed with the feeling of wanting to help. I ordered a brick-making machine out of South Africa like the one we have in Ecuador; and with the anticipation of its arrival, we began to make plans and get organized. It was an adventure teaching these people how to make bricks out of the dirt they walked on combined with just a little sand and cement. Big dump trucks, excavators, and loaders began to arrive, bringing a sense of renewal that seemed to permeate the air. Our Foundation was the platform; and as we felt the enthusiasm of our members, I knew we were going to have a great experience. As our members arrived, the villagers were filled with an enormous feeling of hope and gratitude. Serving God’s children for the same purpose brings people together in a very special way. How grateful I am for those who shared this experience together, creating lasting memories and hearts filled to overflowing. We are experiencing so many wonderful things around the world as our Foundation continues to reach out to new areas of need. Being part of the Foundation and sharing the joy of giving of ourselves and our abundance to so many in need is truly a blessing. Thank you for all you continue to do.
We join Mary and Gary Young's excitement and congratulate Jared as our new Young Living president. The Essential Edge is excited to bring part 2 of this exclusive interview with Jared Turner to our members. In case you missed part 1, be sure to check out the March edition of The Essential Edge at bit.ly/MarchEE to read about Jared’s family, his relationship with Mary and Gary Young, and more. We are thrilled to have Jared’s leadership and vision leading Young Living at this momentous time, and you’ll see why after reading the rest of our interview. ESSENTIAL EDGE NEWS: What do you, as the new YL president, want our members to know? JARED TURNER: I want them to know they can trust us. They can trust us to honor the legacy of our company and Gary's vision and to infuse our passion into his vision to take us to the next level over the coming decades. Our quality story will never change. Our focus and dedication on having the best products in the world will never change. Our focus on putting members first will never change. And our focus on farming will never change. I also want members to know that we care about them. There’s nothing that brings me greater joy than seeing good people doing a lot of amazing humanitarian work from the success they are having with their Young Living business. Our members are the driving force behind the D. Gary Young, Young Living Foundation that's working to build homes in Nepal, rescue trafficked children in Cambodia, educate poor children in Ecuador, help homeless children in the slums of Uganda, and participate in many other humanitarian projects. Our members are incredible.
EEN: As the new president of Young Living, what is your vision for the future of the company? JT: I want to honor our legacy and embrace that we’re different. When I say, “honor our legacy,” I mean honoring our legacy of purity, of pioneering research, of investigating new botanicals, of bringing new products to the market, and of building new farms. I want to help us grow and keep growing to the next level. I want to keep empowering people—I want to empower our members to keep working toward achieving their goals, and I want to empower our corporate staff to realize their dreams.
PAG E 1
I’m also passionate about building more farms and entering into more partnerships with more farms. That would mean having more corporate farms as well as more partner farms for our members to connect to. The farms are important to me because when I’m at a farm, I’m seeing people’s lives change; and I want our members to be able to get involved and connect to nature. Something special happens when members get their hands dirty planting lavender, for example, and then they can help harvest the flowers and help with the distillation process. They get to experience parts of our Seed to Seal® principles on a more personal level.
EEN: What experience has being on the executive team brought to you that will help you fulfill your role as the president of Young Living? JT: For the past six years, I’ve been on the executive team here at Young Living. While I’ve been on the team, we’ve been through thick and thin. We’ve had tragedy; we’ve had triumph; and through it all, we’ve worked together as a team. When I started at Young Living, we had about $180 million in revenue that year. Being part of growing it to a $1 billion company in 2015 and a $1.5 billion company in 2017 taught me a lot about how to drive growth and how to sustain that growth. EEN: One more question for you—a fun one. What’s your favorite go-to Young Living product, and how do you think it will help you in your new role as president? JT: Shutran™! I wear Shutran every morning, and I put it on multiple times during the day. I just love the smell, and I love the story behind it. It comes from a character named Shutran, who Gary wrote about in his book The One Gift. I also love Valor®. It helps me face whatever obstacle comes my way. Jared has been an invaluable part of the Young Living story for the past six years, and we're excited to experience Young Living’s continued growth under his leadership, along with Gary, Mary, and the leadership team!
CONGRATS TO YL ACADEMY GRADUATES! 23 seniors graduate in 2018 and look to a bright future
The funds and supplies the Foundation receives from members for the Young Living Academy truly make a difference in the lives of thousands of people. Visit YoungLivingFoundation.org to learn more about the Young Living Academy and how you can sponsor a child.
Seniors of the Young Living Academy in Chongon, Ecuador, celebrate graduation in February. In February the Young Living Academy in Chongon, Ecuador, celebrated its third graduating class; and just like the two previous years, 100 percent of the 23 seniors graduated! This is truly an impressive accomplishment considering that, on average, only 20 percent of the students in Chongon graduate from high school. “My husband, Gary, had a great vision for this school, and where we are today is how his vision has come to life. He wanted a place where children could learn, play, and stay safe from the rain and the sun,” Mary Young explained to the graduates during the graduation ceremony. “The children here love him. They feel of his love when he comes. Everything that happens at the Young Living Academy is extremely important to him.” In the last three years, 58 students have graduated from the Young Living Academy in Ecuador, and they are now carrying the torch of the Young Living Academy throughout their community and country as they pursue degrees in medicine, law, business, engineering, and many other career paths. In addition to educating the youth, many families in Chongon have been given new opportunities for a better life. The Mateo-
Santana family, for example, used to live in a one-room plywood house. Thanks to the Young Living Academy sponsorship program, they’ve been able to save the money they would have spent on school for their children to build a 600-square-foot home. In 2010, they built the first four pillars of the home, and with the help of the Foundation and Young Living members, the home was completed in 2013. “I don’t speak Spanish,” said Cindi Tompkins, a member who worked on the Mateo-Santana’s house while on a service trip in Ecuador. “But when Nadia smiles at me and I smile back— that’s the only form of communication that we need. She walks around saying ‘Gracias!’ all day. You know that we are making a huge difference because of the gratitude that [these families] show.” After the completion of the Mateo-Santana’s home, the family passed through many economic trials. Nadia, the mother, had to sell nearly all her possessions to pay the bills. Seeing these economic hardships motivated Ivanny, the oldest child in the family and a graduate of the 2016 Young Living Academy, to pursue a law degree at the State University of Guayaquil. She’s completed two semesters so far and has passed every class with top grades.
A (NOT SO) SECRET INGREDIENT MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE Sodium hyaluronate in the ART Beauty Masque
Sodium hyaluronate helps to make the ART Beauty Masque an even more effective product. There’s one thing that all of us want our skin care products to do: work. We know that an effective skin care routine can help raise your self-confidence and leave you glowing. That’s why when we create our products, we don’t just stop there. Our teams are always looking for ways we can improve our products to make you love them even more. Drawing on that passion for continuous improvement, we made our ART® Beauty Masque even more luminizing by replacing hyaluronic acid with its water-soluble salt form, sodium hyaluronate. Hyaluronic acid helps to hydrate the skin. In fact, hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring
ESSENTIALLY YOURS We asked; you delivered!
Here are some of your responses from last month's question: "What is your child's favorite essential oil or blend and why?" “My son asks for the ‘feet thingy’ when lying down for bed each night. The feet-thingy is a roller bottle of carrier oil and Thieves®. He likes the tickle on his feet, and I like supporting his health!” —Jen M. “I like Family™ [Inspired by Oola essential oil blend] because it reminds me of my family and how much they love me, and that encourages me to be a good boy at school and do good deeds outside of school as well.” —Zach K., 10 years old
component of the skin that helps keep it nourished and healthy looking. Hyaluronic acid also helps to reduce the loss of moisture. However, sodium hyaluronate is a more effective ingredient because it contains smaller molecules to help the hyaluronic acid penetrate the skin more easily, giving you deeper hydration that improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. If you haven’t tried it yet, we know you’re going to love pampering yourself with the luxurious ART Beauty Masque—especially since you’ll notice more supple skin and a distinctly firmer complexion. Plus, you can enjoy the calming benefits of the delightful Stress Away™ blend as you relax and indulge in some necessary self-care. With this improved formula, Young Living is once again setting the standard and is among the few in the industry to include this ingredient in its beauty products. While not yet a common ingredient in skin care products generally, sodium hyaluronate is proven to be more effective and better for your skin. Check out these products and see the benefits for yourself under the Personal Care section at YoungLiving.com. PAG E 2
“I like Lavender because it reminds me of being on the lavender farm, and that makes me feel good, calm, and happy.” —Ben K., 7 years old “My 70 fourth graders love Lemongrass, Christmas Spirit™, Orange, Lemon, Grapefruit, and a blend of Lavender, Peppermint, and Lemon.” —Kathy D. “My favorite blend is 2 drops of Jasmine, 2 drops of Eucalyptus Globulus, and 1 drop of Peppermint.” —Lily M., 10 years old “My daughter is a senior in high school, and she just adores Young Living Lemon oil. When she walks into class, everyone asks, ‘Why does it smell like lemon?’ Then one of her friends will say, ‘It's you!’ She loves using the oil as a natural perfume because it lasts for such a long time! She says the smell is so refreshing and doesn’t give her headaches like artificial smells can. She also enjoys using its scent as a mood booster to feel more energized and happy when she feels down. The scent of Lemon goes everywhere she does. She loves it!” —Ela P. "My daughter and I love to make 'potions'! Her favorites are 'Happy,' made from Lemon, Cedarwood, and Lime, and 'Sleepy,' made from Vetiver, Cedarwood, and Lavender. Yes, we love Cedarwood." —Errin P.

Members are especially thrilled to welcome to Taiwan the Savvy Minerals by Young Living® makeup line and other products that were launched during the 2017 International Grand Convention.
