The Winter Harvest is a time of transformation, when we work together alongside D. Gary Young to distil the world’s highest quality essential oils in the pristine, rejuvenating forest setting of our Idaho farms. Registration to join this unforgettable experience is now open!

From December 3–15 or January 7– February 2, you can become an integral part of the Seed to Seal® process for all or part of the Winter Harvest at the Young Living farms in St. Maries and Highland Flats, Idaho. Immerse yourself in a variety of rewarding experiences, from harvesting the trees, to working with our eco-friendly horse-drawn teams, to helping distil the precious essential oils.

With Gary and many of our leaders in attendance, the Winter Harvest is also an excellent time to learn from our founder and network with top distributors.

Gary has a special surprise for those coming to the Winter Harvest. A highresolution gas chromatograph (GC) will be available for the immediate testing of essential oils distilled at the St. Maries distillery. This is an opportunity of a lifetime for all distributors coming to the harvest, giving them illuminating insight into the testing and bottling of the very oils being distilled during the Winter Harvest.

The GC instrument, one of three normally housed in Young Living’s research and quality lab, will be set up for the volunteers to help analyse the essential oils that they help and distil from the harvest. The Agilent 6890N GC will be equipped with nonpolar and polar

Power of YL Events Dear Young Living,

I love the expression “essential oils are Mother Nature’s cocktail,” and I am very excited that Young Living has a high standard and a determination to use these amazing and powerful gifts in all of its products.

I have received many questions regarding the use of Young Living skin-care products, so I have decided to start my articles in the Essential Edge News with the unique simplicity of the entire skin-care line.

Young Living News from Around the World SINGAPORE

Singapore had a very festive first anniversary celebration on October 20, which was made even more special by guest Dr. Peter Minke. He did a remarkable job in sharing important knowledge about family first aid with essential oils, as well as essential oil chemistry.

The Singapore office also brought Dr. Minke to Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, October 22–23.

Watch out for the next big event in Singapore, which is the launch of the new NingXia Red® with Young Living director of training and education Doug Corrigan on January 19.

PERU

Young Living Peru is reaching new heights with growing support at the global headquarters and the introduction of NingXia Red. Nancy Yoshiwara was introduced in October as the marketing manager for Young Living Peru and comes with a great professional background and enthusiasm to take Peru to the next level of service and support. NingXia Red has been well received across the country by distributors who

are enthused to have a new way of consuming oils and invigorating their health.

JAPAN

More than 600 distributors shared the excitement at the Japan workshop held in Osaka and Tokyo in October. Slique™ Tea and Slique Essence™ were successfully launched, and many are setting goals and getting ready for the Slique Challenge. Gary’s presentation surely motivated Japanese distributors to achieve transformation. Four Japanese distributors also shared their stories about Young Living products and their businesses. Qualified distributors enjoyed the recognition dinner with Jared Turner, the new VP of international, who spoke about the vision and potential of the Japanese market. The event created great momentum that will take Young Living Japan to the next level.

MEXICO

Young Living Mexico has renewed energy that has been ignited by great leadership and great new products. The health and wellness of many has been invigorated by the introduction of Progessence Phyto Plus™ and Slique Tea. To add to these exciting products, we are proud to introduce the new NingXia Red in November with three celebrations across the country.

AUSTRALIA

The 2012 holiday catalogue is now available. The catalogue is filled with exciting kits to share with your friends and family this holiday season. Not only does it include wonderful packaged presents, but it also features new and special products that will be available only during the holiday promotion. These include great Young Living-branded oil carriers, polo shirts, aprons, and shoulder bags, as well as two new oils, The Gift™ and Idaho blue spruce. ECUADOR

Ecuador is looking forward to hosting Young Living’s Gold and Platinum leaders for the Master Leader Retreat in November. The Ecuador farm and Nova Vita spa will be the highlights of the event and will help demonstrate what makes Young Living the world leader in essential oils.

EUROPE

An exciting and active month in October saw Europeans welcome the launch of the new NingXia Red and a number of other new products. The successful launch of the European holiday catalogue also offers a wonderful selection of gifts and ideas for sharing during the festive season.

Marc Schreuder visited European headquarters and Sweden, where he spoke to an enthralled audience about Europe’s Young Living products, including the new NingXia Red, Progessence Phyto Plus, and Slique Tea. Product presentations and training were also held in Austria with guest speakers Doug Corrigan and Dr. Olivier Wenker.

Germany Founders Meeting: More than 400 Attend Historic Celebration buzz and energy for the day but also a platform for building networks and sharing an affinity for Young Living.

Guests enjoyed a full day of introductory, informational, and educational presentations from host speakers and key members.

Testimonials were given by some of Europe’s brightest leaders, including Crown Diamond Barbara Ochsenhofer, Diamonds Gabriele Hauser and Markus Idl, and German leaders Roswita Heitmann, Ursula Belgart, Rudolf Pieknik, and Aditya Nowotny.

YOUNG LIVING EUROPE was proud and excited to host Europe’s first official Founders Meeting, held September 22 in Nurnberg.

More than 400 leaders joined together in celebrating the official commencement of Young Living in Germany.

The event, hosted by John Doughty, general manager of Young Living Europe, brought the European management team and global headquarters’ general counsel, Shawn Stewart; associate general counsel, Matt French; and the manager

of global regulatory affairs, Colin Booth, on stage to show Young Living’s commitment to the new and flourishing market. They will all be key in supporting and influencing the growth and opportunity in this already thriving market.

New and established Founders Meeting guests from Germany, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Romania, Switzerland, the UK, and the United States represented their nations and shared in supporting this historic day for Young Living. The international congregation not only provided a

Ingredients 2 cups of almond pulp 1 tablespoon of cacao 1 cup of soaked dates 3-4 tablespoons of maple syrup/ agave/honey 4-8 drops of Young Living essential oil (depending on how lemony you like it) Juice and rind of 1 lemon 1 cup of dessicated coconut 1/3 cup of coconut oil Shredded coconut for rolling in

Method Drain the dates, place them in a blender and wizz until mushy.

In a bowl, mix together the almond pulp, cacao and dessicated coconut.

Add lemon essential oil, lemon rind and juice.

Add the mushy dates, maple syrup and the melted coconut oil.

Mix well.

With a little bit of mixture make some balls as big as a golf ball and roll them in the shredded coconut.

Optional: If you have a real sweet tooth, love lemon icing and can’t think of eating them without it,

go for it! Roll them in the icing, it’s totally up to you.

Place them in the fridge.

Enjoy straight from the fridge with family and friends!

If you have ever had a dental cavity, it’s the result of biofilm on your teeth—commonly called plaque.

People with medical implants— pacemakers, stents, artificial joints— may have experienced a bacterial infection because of a biofilm.

Veysel Berk, a postdoctural fellow in the Department of Physics at the California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences at UC Berkeley, reported on a new imaging technique using super-resolution light microscopy to investigate bacterial biofilms in the July 13, 2012, issue of Science.

In the article, Berk stated, “In their natural habitat, 99.9 percent of all bacteria live as a community and attach to surfaces as biofilms; according to the National Institutes of Health, 80 percent of all infections

in humans are related to biofilms.”

Andre Levchenko, PhD, Johns Hopkins University, wrote: “There is a perception that single-celled organisms are asocial, but that is misguided. When bacteria are under stress . . . they team up and form this collective called a biofilm. If you look at naturally occurring biofilms, they are like cities with channels for nutrients to go in and waste to go out.”

The UC Berkeley article reported on Veysel Berk’s microscope: “He discovered that over a period of about six hours, a single bacterium laid down a glue to attach itself to a surface, then divided into daughter cells, making certain to cement each daughter to itself before splitting in two. The daughters continued to

divide until they formed a cluster . . . at which point the bacteria secreted a protein that encased the cluster like the shell of a building.”

Knowing now that most bacteria live almost entirely in colonies (biofilms), the next important fact to learn is that while a single bacteria “may be susceptible to antibiotics, the films can be 1,000 times more resistant and most can only be removed surgically.”

If this is not daunting enough, biofilms are found not just in humans but throughout our environment. They clog pipes and watersheds and contaminate food and food processing surfaces.

Biofilms in hospitals are particularly deadly. Biofilm research is vital for the safety of patients with urinary tract infections, catheter infections, children’s middle-ear infections, and dental plaque and gingivitis.

What can protect you against a colony of pathogens that is 1,000 times more resistant to antibiotics than the pathogen as a single cell?

It will come as no surprise that researchers have posted 76 PubMed studies investigating the power of essential oils against this wellarmored threat.
