Ohio residents must have graduated from a public or chartered high school with a state-approved diploma, or passed the GED. (If you are home-schooled, contact the Office of Admissions.) ACT or SAT scores are required if the applicant has been out of school for fewer than two years or for entry into a specific program. Non-residents must have graduated in the upper two-thirds of their high school class; or have an ACT composite score of 17 or higher or a combined SAT score of 820 or higher; or have passed the GED. Residents of Mercer and Lawrence counties in Pennsylvania are admitted under the same criteria as Ohio residents. Admission to the University does not guarantee admission to every program.

The School of Graduate Studies and Research offers 35 master’s programs, a doctorate in education, and the Doctor of Physical Therapy. YSU is also a consortium member of the Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy.

If you’re the type of student who wants to dig deeper, take on challenges, and ask big questions, you might be a candidate for Youngstown State University’s Honors and Scholars programs. Honors classes and seminars are available in all colleges to all majors, and qualified students may take honors classes or may apply to enroll in the Honors Program. If accepted into the program, you have the option of living in Cafaro House, the honors residence (pictured below). Successful completion of the program will earn you an honors diploma. It’s the kind of credential that will open many doors for you.

• Scholarships for Excellence—based on academic performance in high school. Awards range from full-ride University Scholars awards (about $14,000/ year) to awards of $4,500, $2,500, $2,000, and $1,500 per year, based on ACT or SAT scores and high school rank or GPA. The University awards these scholarships to incoming students; the awards are renewed each year you maintain your academic performance at YSU, up to four years.

• The Martin Luther King Achievement Awards are given to students from 18 area high schools. Club sports teams compete with other colleges and universities, but less formally, without NCAA regulations. Choices here?
