Concept: Q & A shows how my designs answer my clients’ questions. Questions and answers, or problems and solutions, are reflected within the pages of this portfolio. When asked a question or given a problem, I respond to it with design. Q & A also reflects a relationship between the client and the designer that results in precise, effective visual communication.

The Spirit of Pioneers: I revived a dying brand by first identifying its essence. Casio is a Japanese electronics manufacturing company. Casio’s new mission statement indicates its commitment to providing accessible tools to improve productivity. Casio will provide people with a wide array of products and services for today’s increasingly demanding workplace. In my visual approach to designing Casio’s logo, I used hexagons to symbolize versatile talent. I chose orange and dark blue as Casio’s new colors. The dark blue represents the speed of technology, while the orange color represents the warm light bulb of new ideas. I created a totally new and dynamic logo.

The Fraud in a Face: I produced all the deliverables of a film festival for the director Stephen Frears. My title is Hollow Truths and the idea is that behind the laughing mask lies jealousy, greed, and hatred. The concept behind this is that we hurt others with a fake smile because our inner lives are empty and meaningless. I used contrasting colors and materials to show how people are different. The wrinkles in the paper represent our imperfections and our inability to completely hide our true selves. The fake leather represents human skin while also depicting the fake nature of the mask that we put on. Plastics express the feeling that something is trapped in one’s own world.

The Soul of the Journey: I redesigned the visual aspects of Coach’s Annual Sustainability Report using various shades of green because the company puts environmental issues first. The report begins with a photograph of two men riding in a carriage, which makes us think of the brand Coach, and represents the readers, who are taking a journey from not knowing what Coach does to understanding the philosophy behind the brand. Coach’s logo was important to preserve in the system because it contains the soul and essence of the company. It appears on each page of the report, marking milestones in the company’s growth.

A Pr oj ect: And I Am H er e Po s ter

The Tears of Loss: I picked a song and created a poster to visually represent what the song means to me. I called this project And I Am Here. In the song, a man is dead, but in heaven his spirit is conveyed by a song that comforts the woman he left behind by letting her know that he is always with her. The reality of his physical death is sad, but when she closes her eyes and listens to this song, she feels like he is next to her and her heart warms. The woman writes a letter to him, thinking about her beloved, but her letter is always wet with tears. Tears are symbols of sadness and tears are expressed by the water wheel. The amber hues of the imagery express the warmth in her heart.

The Clarity of Connections: I created a unique UX/UI design mobile app that solves a specific problem. My app’s name is AHA. The purpose of this app is to help maintain and foster established business relationships with personal connections by helping users remember people’s names. My target is primarily busy people who forget other people’s names and forget to stay in touch with them. I used yellow as the focal color, as it attracts the eye; I juxtaposed the yellow with black in order to lend balance to the image. However, it was difficult to read, so I added white. I created a simple circular shape frame design for people to read the name easily.

The Motive of a Movement: I undertook extensive research, writing, and image gathering to create a book on a topic. This project’s topic is movement. This book is an expression of my daily life. During the day my feelings and movements change depending on what music I hear, how I feel, and where I am. I just move and imagine what the situation is. For this project, I focused on five particular movements and chose a corresponding color for each. The photos are 2D, but I wanted to express the movements as 3D, which is why I employed a color with each movement. By overlapping colorful images, I strived to create a dynamic and compelling visual aesthetic.

The End of Innocence: I identified a problem and followed specific steps in the design process to create engaging and relevant solutions. My project’s topic is cyberbullying. Cyberbullying can lead to teenagers’ feeling immense pain and even committing suicide, especially when they are already emotionally vulnerable. I want to empathize with teens and show them that they are not alone. I used strong colors to convey strong messages to the teenagers. In order to draw their attention to the campaign, I utilized bold, dynamic imagery in my visual representation. The focus here is the hand. The message is that we can prevent cyberbullying with that hand.

The Point of View: I created a unique storybook that takes a single topic and portrays it though visual communication. My book, Angles of Interpretations, is a storybook that addresses in a visually dynamic manner the different ways we see and interpret life. It is natural for people to have various points of view. However, even if several people look at the same object, their point of view could change depending on the their position relative to what is being observed. I created visual images using various tactics in different ways to express perspectives. I started with basic paint and paper to create various images, and I also used a piece of thread to express various lines.

MFA Thesis The Time of the Month: My topic is menstrual products and the benefits of using reusable products over disposable ones. Although disposable menstrual products are predominantly used, most women don’t know that these conventional products, such as tampons, pose serious problems. As a result, I wanted to raise awareness. Therefore, the desired outcome of this project is to promote reusable menstrual products. I used pastel colors throughout to give women a feeling of comfort, and to avoid a strong reaction to red. In addition, all the visuals used were intended to convey a friendly and soft tone by way of their lack of sharp edges.

Thanks to My Family and Friends: I thank my family first, specifically my mom, dad, and sister for always trusting and supporting me. My family is my strength and my driving force. Every time I get tired of working, I think of them, their constant encouragement, and my negative mind shifts. I realize that the quality of my work depends on my attitude and motivation, and my family has constantly helped me with this. My parents have always told me to have a heart of gratitude, and to work confidently and happily. Finally, I am grateful to my many friends who have encouraged me to never give up during the many challenging times I faced. Thanks to all of you!

Thanks to Professors: I am so thankful that I took Mary Scott's portfolio class because she motivated me to do my best and to produce high quality work. I learned how to use image, hierarchy, contrast, and negative space to emphasize my concept through design in a clear, elegant, and simple way. I also learned useful interview skills and improved my ability to communicate with clients. Thanks to my Thesis Professors. I learned the basics that a graphic designer should have, such as how to convey a strong message to my customers and how to solve problems easily. I am so happy that my professors helped me to develop.
