FIRE SAFETY INFO
Your Parks and Recreation, and Fire Departments The Cosumnes Community Services District (CSD) was created in 1985 and serves an estimated 190,680 south Sacramento County residents in a 157-square-mile area. Its award-winning parks and recreation services—including the operation of 97 CSD parks—operate exclusively within the Elk Grove community. It provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the cities of Elk Grove and Galt and unincorporated areas of south Sacramento County.
Inclusive and Adaptive Recreation for People with Disabilities In an effort to meet the needs of the community and in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the CSD wants to ensure that all individuals have access to our programs. We are committed to promote positive participation and a quality experience by providing reasonable accommodations upon request and adaptive recreation opportunities for people with disabilities. To request an accommodation, mark the “accommodations needed” box on the registration form or online, and a staff will contact you. Reasonable accommodations will be determined on an individual basis. Please allow at least 3 weeks for your request to be processed. Accommodation Request forms can also be found online at yourcsd.com Adaptive, therapeutic recreation classes and programs are offered through Recreation ADventures (page 41). Adaptive recreation is not intended to replace or prevent participation in inclusive recreation settings. For further information on inclusion, accommodations, and adaptive recreation, please contact us at (916) 405-5600 or RAD@csdparks.com
At the Cosumnes CSD, we know that parks and recreation are vital to physical health, mental wellbeing, community connections and social interactions. Browse this Guide, visit our website, or come in and speak to our helpful staff to discover recreation opportunities for all ages. The Elk Grove Aquatics Center will be opening with a splash this May! It will feature three pools for your enjoyment: a 50-meter pool, a 25-yard pool, and a recreational pool with a lazy river and two 30-foot slides. In addition to the Wackford Aquatic Complex and Jerry Fox Swim Center, the new facility will offer swim lessons, pool parties, and more of your favorite aquatic activities. Check out yourcsd.com or follow the CSD on social media for the latest information on this exciting new development. For a full listing of current aquatics programming, see pages 9-15. Be sure to add Elk Grove Park to your summer to-do list. The CSD will be hosting various events in this beautiful and spacious park for you to enjoy the long, summer days. On April 27, don’t miss FitFest, a free one-day festival geared toward fitness. Watch a free screening of The Lego Movie with your family on June 7. On June 22, invite your friends to attend a free concert in the park featuring the popular country music Dave Russell Band. Or sleep under the stars at the annual Community Campout on July 13-14. Find more occasions to connect with your family and neighbors on pages 4-8. The Cosumnes Fire Department offers ways to stay safe while you enjoy summer on pages 50-51. Cosumnes Fire will be cohosting Regional Safety alongside the Elk Grove Police Department on June 8. The free event will feature emergency response vehicles, safety demonstrations, and excitement for the entire family. Through your participation in the parks and programs in this Guide, you will be helping us build a bright, healthy and active community. Have a fun-filled summer,

Fire Safety at
Your Home Away from Home
Peer-to-peer hospitality services, such as Airbnb, Vacation Rentals by Owner and other types of vacation rentals are not regulated in the same way as hotels. Requirements vary widely across jurisdictions. Act as your own safety advocate and know before you go. Be sure the following safety measures are addressed.
SAFETY TIPS
√ Working smoke alarms are in every sleeping room, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every level of the home. √ Portable fire extinguishers are in the home and are easy to reach. √ Working carbon monoxide alarms are in all areas as required by local laws, codes, or standards. √ The owner has posted a floor plan. It notes all escape routes and exits and provides emergency contact information. √ Everyone knows the address of the home. √ Everyone staying in the home has identified two ways out of every room and how to escape in an emergency. √ An outside meeting place has been chosen and is a safe distance away from the home. √ Everyone knows how to call 9-1-1 or the local emergency number from a cell phone from outside. WINDOW AND DOOR ALERT!
Be on the lookout for rooms with tiny windows too small to serve as a means of escape. Security bars on doors and windows can trap people in a fire. Make sure ay security bars have quick-release devices. Tools, keys, or special efforts should not be needed to open them.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Ask your host if the propety meets local rental regulations. Check the forecast in case of storms that could cause power outages; assure the property has equipment in the event of a power outage.

Make sure your home is safe from outside fires.
Don't Let Your World Go Up in Smoke. Grilling
· Move the grill away from siding, decking, and other things that can catch fire. · Keep children and pets at least three feet away from the grill when it’s hot. · Stay with the grill the entire time you’re cooking. · Keep your grill clean so leftover grease and fat won’t catch on fire.
Fireworks are dangerous and put people, pets and property at risk. The best way to stay safe from fireworks is to not use them. Instead, attend a public fireworks display put on by professionals.

Backyard Fire Pits
Summer months mean grilling! Make sure your home is protected. Keep grills 3 feet away from your house and anything that can burn.
· Make sure the fire pit is at least three feet away from your house and anything that can burn. · Closely watch children when the fire pit is in use. · Use a metal screen over wood-burning fires to keep sparks from floating out. · Turn off or put out fires before you leave the backyard. · Store matches and lighters out of children’s sight and reach.

REGISTRATION
COSUMNES CSD
Cosumnes CSD: Parks & Recreation Depar tment | Enriching Community
Enrollment Details for CSD Classes Hold Harmless Form
Some classes require a parent/guardian to accompany participant to the first class and sign a Hold Harmless form prior to participation. Please check to see if your class has that requirement.
Pre-Register
Nothing cancels a class faster than low enrollment. Each class strives for a minimum level that will cover costs. If you see a class you’re interested in, register early and invite a friend.
Supply Fees
Supply fees cover the cost of materials that are used in classes to present or produce items. Some classes have mandatory supply fees that are required for every class and are included in the registration fee (example: art materials). Mandatory supply fees are always collected with registration and are not paid to the instructor. Some classes have optional supply fees that are not required for every class, or are not required at all (example: martial arts uniform). Optional supply fees will be paid directly to the instructor and are not included in the registration fee.
Waitlist Procedure
Anyone can waitlist classes. Waitlists are not rolled over. It is the responsibility of the parent to place their child(ren) on the appropriate list(s). If a client withdraws from a class, the first person on the list is called and has 24 hours to accept or decline.
Accommodations
To request an accommodation, mark the “Accommodations Needed” box on the registration form. Allow at least two weeks advance notice.
Receipts
In an effort to keep costs down, we do not send receipts by mail. Receipts are available by request.
Mark Your Calendars
Note the times, dates, and locations for courses and events.
What to Bring? What to Wear?
Read the class descriptions for what to bring or wear for fitness, dance, sports, or other special interest classes. Most descriptions include basic expectations for apparel and equipment.
Refunds
Refunds and transfers are granted to cancellations received 72 hours prior to the first class unless otherwise noted in the class description. Failure to attend does not constitute grounds for a refund. If you are not satisfied with a program, contact the supervisor. The Parks and Recreation Department will declare a refund on a customer account as an unclaimed credit when the refund has not been used or claimed within one year of issue date. Unclaimed credits will be transferred to the Cosumnes Recreation Opportunity Fund.
Cosumnes Recreation Opportunity Fund
When registering, add an optional $1 to donate. See page 60 for more information on the program.
Fire Department Fee
Participants or those renting CSD facilities that require assistance of the Cosumnes Fire Department for an injury or illness while participating in our programs may be charged fees as part of that response and/or transport. These fees are separate from those paid to use the facility or participate in the program.

Here’s the Scoop • A single gram of pet waste
Besides being unpleasant to the eyes and nose, pet waste is an environmental pollutant that can cause serious harm to Elk Grove’s waterways. A quick rain is all it takes to transfer dog droppings from the ground and into our streams, lakes and rivers.

Stormwater Prevention Save water— we can all do it! SUMMER 2019 • Water conservation never goes out of style! Even after a wet winter, the CSD will continue to closely monitor our water use. Our team of irrigation professionals will perform regular system checks and follow water budgets in all of our parks. Here are some ways you can conserve water around your house: • Mulch, Mulch, Mulch. Mulching helps keep soil cool and damp, helps prevent weeds, and looks great too! • Water without waste. Set your irrigation timer to stop watering before runoff occurs. Adjust and/or repair the sprinklers in your yard so they do not water the sidewalk, street, etc. • Watering at night prevents evaporation. Water between the hours of 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM only. • For more water saving tips/tricks, visit the Save Our Water website www.saveourwater.com or the website of your water supplier. The CSD utilizes water saving practices to meet water savings goals. Learn more at www.yourcsd.com.
The Cosumnes CSD has been authorized by the California Water Quality Control Board and the federal government to conduct a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Program at its properties and facilities. The CSD’s goal is to reduce or eliminate pollutant storm water. Here's how you can help:
Don’t Litter
Litter like plastic bottles, fast food wrappers and cups tossed on the ground can carry germs and bacteria.
Report Illegal Dumping
If you see someone dumping trash in one of your CSD parks or an undeveloped site of a future park, call our 24-hour maintenance hotline at (916) 405-5688.
Pick Up After Your Pet
Pet waste contains disease-carrying bacteria that can pollute our drinking water. Pick up after your pet and remind others to do the same.
Put Your Butt in the Trash
If you’re a smoker, always put your extinguished cigarette butts in the trash.
Mind the Drains
Keep litter, pet wastes, leaves, and debris out of street gutters and storm drains. Dispose of used oil, antifreeze, paints and other household chemicals properly—not in storm sewers or drains.
