Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update Cosumnes CSD · 4/22/21

Effective April 15, a new Sacramento County Public Health Order has been released to align with the State of California restrictions and guidance for the Red/Substantial Tier 2 per the State’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy. The latest order continues to reinforce the direction that all individuals carry on with social distancing protocols and use face coverings. The order also includes guidance for schools and youth and adult recreational sports to align with State requirements. Outdoor community playgrounds are still permitted for use with social distancing to help support a safe environment for children and families. When using your community parks, playgrounds and trails, please heed the following guidelines: • MAINTAIN DISTANCE. Always maintain physical distance of 6 feet from those outside of your household unit. If the area is too crowded, try another spot or go home and try again at another time. • WASH HANDS. Wash or sanitize your hands before and after using the playground or park equipment. • WEAR A MASK. While using the playgrounds, everyone 2 years and older should wear a mask covering their nose and mouth at all times. • KNOW WHEN TO STAY HOME. Stay home if you are sick. People at increased risk for severe illness should avoid playgrounds when others are present. Thanks for doing your part to keep Elk Grove healthy. REGISTRATION TIPS

Have a second and third time choice prepared when registering or transferring, as classes fill up quickly. If unsure of the appropriate level, refer to sample Progress Report on yourcsd.com. It is recommended that children repeat the last level they completed the previous summer. Most children remain in the same level for two or more sessions. Jerry Fox Swim Center, Wackford Aquatic Complex, and Elk Grove Aquatics Center all offer swim lessons. If a class is full at one pool, check another facility.

COME PREPARED!

Participants should have a swim suit, towel, and sun block. For children in diapers, swim diapers must be worn in the pool. Goggles and swim caps are recommended for children with long hair or in level 3 and up. Classes are not designed as drop-off and parents must remain on the pool deck for the duration of each class. Be on time or early to class as we strive to start class on time every day.

REFUND POLICY

Transferring classes or refunds will be granted if received at least 72 hours prior to the first class. Refunds or credits will not be granted due to failure to attend a program. If registered incorrectly, participants may be asked to leave the class without a refund, credit or transfer.

What You Can Do To Help

The Cosumnes Community Services District (CSD) has been authorized by the California Water Quality Control Board and the federal government to conduct a storm water pollution prevention program at its properties and facilities in southern Sacramento County, including the 96 parks it operates in Elk Grove.

Don’t Litter Litter like plastic bottles, fast food wrappers and cups tossed on the ground can carry germs and bacteria.

Pick Up After Your Pet Pet waste contains disease-carrying bacteria that can pollute our drinking water. Pick up after your pet and remind others to do the same.

Report Illegal Dumping If someone is dumping trash in a Cosumnes CSD park or future park, call our 24-hour maintenance hotline at (916) 405-5688.

Mind the Drains Keep litter, pet waste, leaves and debris out of street gutters and storm drains. Dispose of used oil, antifreeze, paints and other household chemicals properly— not in storm sewers or drain inlets.

HOW TO

PREPARE YOUR HOME

1

3

4 5 2

6

FOR WILDFIRES

WILDFIRE RISK REDUCTION STEPS THAT CAN MAKE YOUR HOME SAFER DURING A WILDFIRE

VEGETATION MANAGEMENT 1. HOME IGNITION ZONES To increase your home’s chance of surviving a wildfire, choose fire-resistant building materials and limit the amount of flammable vegetation in the three home ignition zones. The zones include the Immediate Zone: (0 to 5 feet around the house), the Intermediate Zone (5 to 30 feet), and the Extended Zone (30 to 100 feet). 2. LANDSCAPING AND MAINTENANCE To reduce ember ignitions and fire spread, trim branches that overhang the home, porch, and deck and prune branches of large trees up to 6 to 10 feet (depending on their height) from the ground. Remove plants containing resins, oils, and waxes. Use crushed stone or gravel instead of flammable mulches in the Immediate Zone (0 to 5 feet around the house). Keep your landscape in good condition.

FIRE RESISTIVE CONSTRUCTION 3. ROOFING AND VENTS Class A fire-rated roofing products, such as composite shingles, metal, concrete, and clay tiles, offer the best protection. Inspect shingles or roof tiles and replace or repair those that are loose or missing to prevent ember penetration. Box in eaves, but provide ventilation to prevent condensation and mildew. Roof and attic vents should be screened to prevent ember entry. 4. DECKS AND PORCHES Never store flammable materials underneath decks or porches. Remove dead vegetation and debris from under decks and porches and between deck board joints. 5. SIDING AND WINDOWS Embers can collect in small nooks and crannies and ignite combustible materials; radiant heat from flames can crack windows. Use fire-resistant siding such as brick, fiber-cement, plaster, or stucco, and use dual-pane tempered glass windows.

BE PREPARED 6. EMERGENCY RESPONDER ACCESS Ensure your home and neighborhood have legible and clearly marked street names and numbers. Driveways should be at least 12 feet wide with a vertical clearance of 15 feet for emergency vehicle access. ● Develop, discuss, and practice an emergency action plan with everyone in your home. Include details for handling pets, large animals, and livestock. ● Know two ways out of your neighborhood and have a predesignated meeting place. ● Always evacuate if you feel it’s unsafe to stay—don’t wait to receive an emergency notification if you feel threatened from the fire. ● Conduct an annual insurance policy checkup to adjust for local building costs, codes, and new renovations. ● Create or update a home inventory to help settle claims faster.

Two New Facilities Coming to Elk Grove

Preliminary Concept Plans

Cosumnes CSD is moving forward on two vital infrastructure projects that originated nearly two decades ago but were halted during the Great Recession of 2008: Morse Park Recreation Center and Fire Station 77. Learn More

J.D. “Dell” Cann Fire Station 77

Morse Recreation Center

8350 Poppy Ridge Road

Morse Community Park 5540 Bellaterra Drive

The fire station project, first approved in 2005, addresses increased public safety demand in the community. This location is positioned to improve the response times in some of the District’s busiest areas in Elk Grove and enhance services to the expanding and developing communities in southern Elk Grove.

A preliminary design schematic was presented for the future Morse Recreation Center! The design includes a 34,500-square-foot facility emphasizing health and wellness amenities and includes two gyms, an elevated indoor walking/jogging track, group fitness spaces, and retractable batting cages.

WINTER-SPRING WATER CONSERVATION TIPS • Be prepared to shut your irrigation off for the winter. Many plants and grasses go dormant and most plants and grasses get all the water they need during the winter months from natural sources.

• When the time comes in the spring to turn your irrigation back on, be sure to perform a system check first and then set the system to deliver a fraction of the water the plants will need when the summer months arrive. This will help develop their root systems. • Freshen up the look of your yard in the spring by applying mulch. Not only does it look great, but it helps keep the soil moist and reduces the need to irrigate. • For more water saving tips/tricks, visit the Save Our Water website www.saveourwater.com
