changing times “People were always asking about the clock and we felt it was time to make sure it got back to its former glory. Neil took it to a specialist on Castle Road and it was fixed.

THINGS are ticking along nicely at a well know Scarborough DIY store after their nostalgic shop clock was restored to full working order. Clock handyman on Victoria Road is famous locally for its clock centrepiece which sits above the shop front. But, after the clock, which was made in the 1930’s, had failed to work for over 20 years, owners Jane Kemp-Buglass and husband Neil decided it was time to put that right. Jane said: “The clock is something that has been associated with the business right from the start, when my parents Geoff and Christine Kemp opened on Gladstone Road in 1973. “The clock was already there but when we were trying to come up with a name for the store I suggested Clock Handyman and it all started from there. I was only eight at the time but remember designing a little logo which I still have in a scrap book.

“To get it back above the shop and working is fantastic and we are delighted that it can once again be the focal point it deserves to be.” Clock Handyman moved to Victoria Road in 1985 and the clock itself served as a very useful tool for many of the Scarborough public. Jane added: “People used to look up at the clock to get the time when they were heading down Victoria Road to work or to catch a bus for example. Now they can use it again which is great and hopefully it will be with us for many more years to come.” Now our lovely time keeper clock is working again time won’t stand still again, says Jane and if you’ve never visited Clock Handyman, you’ve missed a rare treat. With 3 floors of goods for the home and garden locals refer to it as a‘Tardis’ of a store, an ‘Aladdin’s Cave’. Jane said it was lovely this year to be able to dedicate a whole floor to the festive season, and welcome fans of both Christmas and ‘Frozen’ to take photographs

in their themed grotto area. We pride ourselves on giving a good shopping experience and we get lovely feedback, said Jane, customers tell us that “if you can’t get it at the ‘Clock’ it doesn’t exist” although we don’t have everything in stock our team of staff, with over 40 years’ service between them, will do their utmost to try and get it. We’re always looking to what new lines we can introduce says Jane. We’ve found a big demand for our TV & Satellite parts such as aerials and wall brackets along with things to make your home feel good such as our carpet cleaner hire, our Dulux Paint Mixing which can match your decorations and Kilner storage solutions.

We’d love to see you so come and see us for yourself or check out our latest offers – see opposite page for our advert. Bring in this editorial for a 10% discount* off your next purchase. *terms & conditions apply. Cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer. Can not be exchanged for any cash value. Valid up to 28/2/15.

HOROSCOPES

BY JAMES CHRISTIE

February 2015

• Starsign of the month • Starsign of the month • Starsign of the month •

Aquarius

(21st January - 18th February)

here are a few famous faces you share your sign with...

L to R: Charles Dickens, Ellen Degeneres

External circumstances put pressure on emotional relationships, so to ease the mood, those “external pressures” need to be identified and dealt with. Some of this might have to do with children, while other aspects link in with the broader sweep of family loyalties and commitments. Do not lose your sense of humour (and perspective) when dealing with these issues.

PISCES

TAURUS (20th April - 21st May)

(19th Feb - 19th March) A bright and breezy February for most Piscesians, especially younger male members of the sign who know what they want! It’s a favourable time for the self employed and anyone who can show a bit of initiative, and despite the bloody awful weather, anyone who works on the land or who takes a living from it, can expect to have a very good month.

February is always a tough month for Taureans and although there is much to be thankful for, you’ll nevertheless feel that your glass is half empty rather than half full. This may prove a little wearisome to lovers and partners, who for their own sakes, will be encouraging you to actually DO something to change your situation.

GEMINI ARIES (20th March-19th April) An optimistic month for most Arians as you get to grips with new job routines and find yourself looking forward into your mid-term future with a much greater degree of confidence. Lots of support from partners, and a noticeable boost to your love life around the 14th. This could be in response to chocolates and flowers, or promises and commitments.

(22nd May - 21st June) Your world seems to be expanding in February, and especially so if you’re between 18 and 24 taking the first serious steps along a career pathway. Travel aspects and contacts with people and places overseas seems highly likely and there could be some lovely romantic energies falling into place during the last ten days of the month.

CANCER (22nd June - 23rd July)

SCORPIO(23rd Oct - 22nd Nov)

If you are looking for major changes in your life, then I think you will be successful, even if things do not fall into place all at once. In the face of delays and postponements, be patient and philosophical, and let things run at their own speed rather than trying to force things along.

If February seems to be a low key month, take heart. It’s the shortest month of the year and there are better and brighter times around the corner. You should be on the receiving end of romantic invitations and overtures, but this will not cheer you up much if they’re not coming from the person you want them to come from.

LEO (24th July - 23rd August) Some travel aspects being thought about, tickets booked, passports dusted off. You’re not necessarily going anywhere just yet, but there is a travel energy in the wind. Not all of your plans and ideas will go down well with others at this time. This is frustrating, but try to be persuasive rather than confrontational.

SAGITTARIUS (23rd November - 22nd December) This promises to be a very good month for those looking for more quality time. On the other hand, it might be a very tense month for Sagittarian parents who have fallen into the habit of living their lives for their children. Kids are growing up and moving on, and this will present you with challenges.

VIRGO(24th Aug - 23rd Sep) There is good business opportunity being presented to you in February which initially you might decline – but with deeper thought and some investigation you may come to realise that it’s a very good idea. Either way, this is a busy month on the work scene and you’ll be enthusiastic about what you’re doing.

LIBRA

(24th Sep- 22nd Oct)

Some important financial decisions are being made this month which will not be popular with everybody. I think it would be sensible to avoid crazy risks and wild gambles, but on the other hand, you mustn’t let other people tell you what to do with what is your money. You’ve worked hard to get it and you have the right to spend it as you see fit.

CAPRICORN (23rd December - 20th January) A tense few days at the beginning of the month on the work scene, but this should be sorted out long before the 7th or 8th. A romantic opportunity on the 14th – which is unusual because Capricorns don’t usually celebrate Valentine’s Day. Perhaps some legal dealing in the wind in connection with some kind of claim for compensation.
