A SCARBoRoUgH man has revealed how a poem he wrote over 15 years ago ended up in the new York home of one half of the world's most famous ever couples.
Terry White, 68, of Swan Hill Road, wrote a poem all about the Beatles legend John Lennon in 1999 and it made its way to the home of Lennon's widow Yoko ono. And perhaps even more fascinating about Terry's story is the reason why he started writing poetry in the first place. He explained: “In 1990 I was involved in an incident which changed my life forever. We lived on Trafalgar Road at the time and next door to us was a block of flats. It was a Friday evening when suddenly there was an explosion and I ran out the house to see flames flying out of the ground floor apartment next door. “A neighbour of mine called Angus was there too and we could see inside there was a figure stood in the hallway on fire. “We both pulled our tops over our heads and ran in, grabbed the person and dragged them out. “It was a young man who was in a very very bad way. By that time the emergency services had arrived and took over. We found out he was 24-yearold man who unfortunately died four days later. “Following the incident I was not my usual self and started having bad nightmares re-living the incident, waking up and sweating in the middle of the night and it really had a bad affect on me.” To find out how this led Terry to poetry and to read his poem on John Lennon see page 16.
