n APRIL 2012
Welcome to York! April sees the famous British springtime in full glory, and you couldn’t find a more stirring place to experience it than York. The historic city is a wanderer’s paradise, with its countless streets revealing a remarkable mixture of the old and new. Whether this is your first visit to York, or you’re a lifelong admirer of its unique charm, you’ll find plenty to enjoy this month.
Good taste is firmly on the city’s agenda, as York’s first Chocolate Festival takes place at the beginning of the month. The festival, happily occurring during the Easter
holidays, features a wide range of chocolate trails and sugary tours set to delight all ages. A special Chocolate Market in Parliament Street is set to be a highlight, along with plenty of confectionary workshops and the opening of the city’s newest attraction, Chocolate: York’s Sweet Story.
April sees the city’s theatre in fine form, with York Theatre Royal showing an uproarious production of Yes, Prime Minister, written by the creators of the original BBC television series. The Grand Opera House is in similarly stunning form with the dazzling Chicago:
The Musical, and the Joseph Rowntree Theatre promises a treat with Carousel, the classic Rodgers & Hammerstein play. Prefer pantomime? Don’t miss The Wizard of Oz at the York Barbican, in an all-new professional staging. But that’s not all. Every day in April you can take in a King’s ransom of fairs, markets, music and more; we’re sure that once you’ve experienced what York has to offer, it won’t be long before you return. Whatever you plan to do in the city, enjoy it!
