n JUNE 2012
Welcome to York!
York will be joining in with the jubilee celebrations with gusto, and it’s a fantastic time to visit the city. Lots of events will have a regal twist – head to our events section for ideas.
If you’ve already had enough of the royals, though, fret not – there are plenty of ways to avoid the Union Flags. The huge Railfest event will return to the National Railway Museum, Buskival will take place in the city for the first time, and of course the Olympic torch will wind its way through the city. We think a few of the
staff here are getting a bit too excited about Buskival, though – we’re pretty sure we spotted Jon and Ronnie practising a Bros routine behind the van in the car park. You do know you need a busking licence to take part, don’t you, guys?
If you’re after a bargain you’d do much worse than Newgate Market which provides a wealth of bargains including clothes, souvenirs and food. Meanwhile the Yorkwalk offers a wide range of ways to see the city in a new light, with tours featuring different themes such as ‘Secret York’, ‘Roman
York’ and ‘Essential York’. Have you brought your pooch along, and want them to join your adventure? Explore the area with guides from www.dogwalksyorkshire.com, which features loads of useful info about routes that include pet-friendly pubs and cafes.
Aside from that, don’t forget the usual range of workshops, tours, concerts, comedy, classes and museums. Leaf through the many events in this booklet, and we’re sure you’ll find something that interests you! Happy jubilee!
