Welcome!
As the festive season approaches and the smell of bonfires fills the air, York is the perfect place to visit. We may be biased, but we think you’ll agree after your stay! Whether you’re visiting us for the day or you’re going for a full week, we can guarantee that you’ll fall in love with the city at this time of year. And aside from the fact that York is probably the best city in the country to visit during the festive season (again, biased, but we’re right), there are so many events going on this month that you might have to clone yourself. From the fantastic fairs that will ensure you find some gorgeous
gifts for your loved ones, to the spectacular fireworks displays, there really is something for everyone this month. Aesthetica Short Film Festival will provide a rare chance to see top quality independent film, and the Living North Essence of Christmas fair will transform York Racecourse into a winter wonderland. Children will adore Santa’s Steam adventure at the National Railway Museum, and if the Community Carol Concert can’t get you into the Christmas spirit, frankly we don’t know what can.
{ Until next month! }
Whatever you plan to do during your stay, have a great time!

n The comprehensive guide to what’s on in York of Measure For Measure. The multicultural city seethes with innovation and revolution while the politicians glance nervously at the Balkans, a powder keg waiting to explode.
Joseph Rowntree Theatre To book: 623568
Grand Opera House
Theatre Royal
PETER PAN (20th-23rd Nov)
Can’t Stand Up For Falling Down (25th Oct-16th Nov)
To book: 0844 8472322.
The players of Pick Me Up Theatre present Sir James Barrie’s timeless tale of the boy who never grew up. The score revels in being able to blend the great British traditions of Gilbert and Sullivan with a contemporary world of dreams and adventure.
AN EVENING OF BURLESQUE (30th Nov)
Sashaying Royal Academy-trained burlesque bombshells slip into exotic character as smoothly as they slip out of the most exotic couture costumes ever to grace the stage. Prepare for evocative Arabian Nights, fabulous fan dancing fantasies and foxy 1940s sirens. It’s the slickest, wickedly wittiest, most delightfully choreographed cabaret spectacular of the year.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (13th Dec-5th Jan)
New Pantomime Productions returns with the classic tale of Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs. This beloved family pantomime is certain to bring fun, thrills and festive cheer to all ages. Emmerdale star Adele Silva stars as The Wicked Queen, with Hollyoaks’ Marcus Patrick as the Huntsman.
To book: 623568.
Written as a series of interconnected monologues, Richard Cameron’s multi-awarding winning play is as beautiful as it is tragic. Set in South Yorkshire against the noir mode of moorland, water and stone, this is an extraordinarily delicate portrait of love, perseverance, heartbreak and strength.
GHOSTS (12th-16th Nov)
This production of Ibsen’s masterpiece is inspired by the artist Edvard Munch’s extraordinary stage designs for the play previously seen only once: in Berlin in 1906. The English Touring Theatre and the Rose Theatre Kingston present.
Friargate Theatre To book: 613000
HUMBLE BOY (28th Nov-1st Dec)
York Settlement Players present a comedy about failed hopes, deception, indecision and beekeeping. Step into the dysfunctional world of the Humbles and the Pyes, where highbrow collides with lowbrow, where the Big Bang Theory meets Jeremy Kyle.
Measure For Measure (5th-8th Dec)
1913 Vienna is the setting for York Shakespeare Project’s production 18
MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET: THE MUSICAL (6th-9th Nov)
New Earswick Musical Society will take you to New York where a little girl discovers Santa working in the city. She needs to convince her mum that he exists and she has found him in Kris Kringle, a Santa Claus hired by Macy’s department store.
A Chorus of Disapproval (10th Nov)
York Musical Theatre Company present this hilarious comedy from Alan Ayckbourn. In it, Pendon Amateur Light Operatic Society are taking on The Beggar’s Opera as their next production and all seems fairly normal… until Guy Jones joins the company and life and art begin to be ingeniously linked.
Jack & The Beanstalk (7th-14th Dec)
With gags galore, big music and dance numbers and traditional slapstick Rowntree Players are once again promising a brand new rollicking romp of a panto!
York Barbican To book: 0844 8542757
Dick Whittington (20th-30th Dec)
Packed with great songs, amazing dance routines and plenty of laughter for all the family, this classic panto features Alex Winters, Chloe Madeley, Danny Young and Kim Taylforth.
