merry christmas Yes, it’s christmas, and yes, York is second only to the North pole (the secret one) when it comes to christmas cheer, but this month we’ve been looking further ahead. if you are thinking about your New Year’s resolutions, don’t worry... because you’ve already started to make excellent life choices. You see, you’re a: in York right now, and b: you’ve picked up this copy of what’s on. allow yourself several minutes of self-satisfaction as you read this introduction to the december issue, knowing that no matter what happens this month, you’re already one of life’s winners. Feels good, eh? although december is often one of the coldest and darkest months, there is a heck of a lot of warmth and light in York. we do christmas, and we mean we really do it! Take your kids along to the city centre this month and their feet won’t touch the ground from all the excitement. if you thought we get just any old guys with white beards in to play the Santas, think again. York is blessed to have an official deal with kris kringle himself, whereby the real Santy c makes several public appearances each day, so by being in York it means you’ll actually meet him. whatever you’re up to this month if our fine city, keep us handy, won’t you? we are once again packed to the rafters with event listings, theatre shows (you can’t come to York at christmas without catching a panto!), dozens of music gigs, and – thanks to the magical ink we used to print this issue – all the festive joy and happiness you could hope for. Seriously, have a whiff right in the spine. mmm... christmas smell.*
