OPEN DAY: 8TH MARCH 2025
Famously everyone’s least favourite month of the year, we reckon that once you’ve made it to the end of this Feb in York, you’ll be counting down the days until February 2026.
That’s because — amidst the darkness, wind, and rain — you’ve managed to spring across a single ray of good fortune; in the shape of the What’s On York magazine you’re reading right now!
With this issue of What’s On in your hand, you’ll be able to forget everything you thought you knew about February. There’s no gloom to be found here, instead you’ve got the key to the best events, festivals, gigs, and theatre shows happening in our area. It’s more or less a guarantee that you’ll be having a month to remember.
So, what’re you waiting for? It’s time to get reading before the best events all book up!

As you know we live in a beautiful city full of amazing restaurants, and as it was mine and my husband’s shared birthday, we knew we had to go to one of York’s very best.
We were fortunate to visit The Old Liquor Store back when it first opened last year, then we had the best Sunday Lunch that I have personally ever tasted. This time around though we tried the ‘Nighttime Menu’.
I started with the bloody mary and garlic and herb oysters, and
for our main I went for an aged fillet of beef tartare while Chris went for the smoked gammon shank, with a side order of potatoes and chorizo of course. The presentation was just superb. The bloody mary oyster was served cold on a bed of ice and the garlic and herb oyster was presented on a bed of seashells and pebbles. The steak tartare was the best I have ever had, and the other components (firelli relish, beef fat and a seed and onion cracker) were perfectly matched, especially the addition of a hen yolk. In a sentence, this
dish was stunning. My husband's smoked gammon shank was another absolute winner. The flavours were so amazing that he actually wanted more!
While we were offered dessert, unfortunately we were so full that we had to refuse.
We’re really looking forward to our next visit as The Old Liquor Store always delivers divine dishes.
