you’ve come to the right place cold. dark. End of christmas. No money.
Yes, January can be a bit of a drag, can’t it? once the decorations have been put away and the christmas tree has either returned to the attic or been dumped in the garden to soon be taken to the tip (yeah, right), everything has the tendency to look a little bare and empty. Think about it this way; when an artist starts to create a beautiful painting, they don’t do so on a canvas cluttered with tinsel and baubles, do they? No. Blank canvas... that’s January. and you couldn’t have picked a better canvas to paint a fun month upon than York. Like a weird american theme park christmas never really ends here in this city, and we continue to feel festive even when the shops are filled with paddling pools, sun cream, and floppy hats. many people believe our cheeriness is a result of secret post-war government experiments to create an English utopia by breeding “perfect Yorkshirefolk”, but its actually because York is just a lovely place to live and we’re all quite nice people. There’s something for everyone taking place this month, from gigs, concerts, and theatre shows, to festivals, exhibitions, and more. York racecourse is hosting two big events soon; the York Stamp & coin Fair, and also Vapnartak (bless you!), the York war games Society annual show and fair. if you’re a resident, first of all, good choice of home city, second of all, make sure you have as much fun as possible at this year’s York residents’ Festival. and if you’re not a resident (commiserations) make sure you hit all the top tourists attractions as well, to tick off a few entries on your ‘awesome Things To do in 2016’ list. whatever you’re up to, keep us handy as all the information contained herein will make you extremely well-informed, all the way until February. high five!
