Slip, slap, slop No, not the sound of an angry toddler running at you in flip flops, but rather our advice to you this month. It's gonna be a scorcher, but no matter how hot it gets you need to slip on a t-shirt, slap on a hat, and slop on some sun screen. Look how responsible we're being to our very welcome guests. Actually it isn't just the blazing July sun that might burn you this month, as York is going to be extremely hot – even at night. Expect astronauts on the ISS to be tweeting photos of the city glowing like an atomic explosion, with captions such as “What's going on in York?” and “Какие является что?” (because a few of them are Russian). What is happening is that July sees a huge great big load of events taking place, from mad-cap festivals, to shows, plays, sports and walks. For a start, Show in
the Park will be the ultimate family day out boasting tribute acts, Punch & Judy shows (if you're not British, prepare for a bizarre and frightening treat), and also MONSTER TRUCK RIDES! We bet the astronauts are looking down with green eyes at that. There is also the Dunnington Fayre, a special family day at Murton Park for the JORVIK Viking Centre, The Bar Convent's fascinating new exhibition, and non-stop piggy action at Piglets Adventure Farm Park. And there's also... you know... York! Just being in the city during the summer is amazing and we heartily recommend you find a comfy spot in one of the many parks or public spaces, pull that hat down low, and relax. You've earned it, baby. Have a great month!

(26th May-30th June) The York Mystery Plays dramatise the greatest story ever told – from the creation of heaven and earth to the last judgement. It’s a story of good versus evil, of life and death and of love, betrayal, loss and hope. Game of Thrones and Coronation Street star Philip McGinley will play the lead role of Jesus, supported by a vast community cast and an army of backstage volunteers to create a unique spectacle, which will celebrate the city’s cultural heritage. The production aims to provoke tears and laughter and be an intensely moving experience, but above all it’s a rare opportunity
to see the city’s most famous stories brought to life in its most iconic building. The Minster’s production will be directed by Phillip Breen (Royal Shakespeare Company) and the script has been written by Mike Poulton.
