Greetings weary traveller! whether you've come to our beautiful city from the furthest reaches of human civilisation, or if you've just over from Heworth, we hope this issue of what's On finds you well. Hey, lovely weather, ain't it? If you just answered 'It's okay, I suppose' that perhaps you're from one of those furthest reaches of human civilisation that enjoys good weather all year round, and if you just shouted 'YEaH YEaH YEaH! SUNNY warm!' then you're definitely from Heworth.

down down upon us and prolong the amount the time we can use sunlight to see all the many wonderful things taking place in York this month. Seriously, what a corker of a month! It's almost as if all the best event organisers had a meeting and decided to “leave it 'till June, yeah?” we have the Festival of Ideas taking place; a time when York celebrates just how inventive, clever, funny, and sexy it is (maybe not the sexiness, but you'll learn that anyway from just being here), while the York minster mystery Plays will continue to draw huge crowds to the cathedral for a theatrical spectical of Biblical proportions. There are also fun and games for kids at dIG, as the archaeological wonder celebrates it's tenth

birthday, as well as there being many hundreds of other ways to keep busy and entertained this month. and, as we alluded to in the title of this intro, if it gets too hot simply whip out this issue of what's On and use it as a convenient fan. See, we really are taking care of all of your needs! Thank us by attending EVErY SINGLE event listed in the magazine, even if you think they sound boring or don't interest you at all. MYSTERY PLAYS

(26th May-30th June) The York Mystery Plays dramatise the greatest story ever told –

from the creation of heaven and earth to the last judgement. It’s a story of good versus evil, of life and death and of love, betrayal, loss and hope. Game of Thrones and Coronation Street star Philip McGinley will play the lead role of Jesus, supported by a vast community cast and an army of backstage volunteers to create a unique spectacle, which will celebrate the city’s cultural heritage. The production aims to provoke tears and laughter and be an intensely moving experience, but above all it’s a rare opportunity to see the city’s most famous stories brought to life in its most iconic building. The Minster’s production will be directed by Phillip Breen (Royal Shakespeare Company) and the script has been written by Mike Poulton.

AWESOME SEVENTIES & DIESEL GALA 18 & 19 JUNE

& c i s u m e liv n o i t c a r t l e dies

Travel behind a Heritage Diesel to see The Glamned who are back to rock you at Levisham Station, supported by the brilliant (Leo Sayer look-a-like) Monty Scott, between 12pm & 4pm. Goathland Station will have DJ Lynne spinning 70’s discs for your enjoyment. Refreshments will be available at Levisham and Goathland along with classic vehicle displays over the weekend. 70’s dress is highly encouraged, so dig out those tank tops, flares and platform shoes and join us for an awesome weekend of live 70’s entertainment and diesel traction! Gain FREE entry to the live music when you have a valid NYMR travel ticket.
