Stay safe and keep your cool this summer with our handy summer safety driving tips.
Wheely hot
Sizzling summer temperatures are known to increase the risk of a tyre blowout - so check tyres regularly for any signs of damage and make sure they’re at the correct air pressure. Keep your cool
Car engines always get hot, but even more so during summer - especially in standstill traffic (A64 summer holiday traffic jam, anyone?). Ensure your coolant levels are topped up and consider turning off your engine if it’s looking like you’re going to be stationary for a decent wedge of time. Bless you!
Hayfever sufferers know only too well the plight of pollen. But when driving, there are a few factors to consider if you suffer. According to the AA, driving at 70mph and sneezing could cause you to lose vision for up to 100m. That’s quite a harrowing statistic. Also, be aware that some hayfever medications can cause drowsiness. Many cars now come with pollen filters, so the air con could be a better option than keeping your windows down. Razzle dazzle ‘em
Glare from the sun causes plenty of accidents, but you can help to avoid it by making sure that your windscreen is super clean - fill up your windscreen wash before journeys and replace any worn windscreen wipers. Keeping a pair of sunglasses in the car could save you a lot of squinting, too.
