CHAPEL
1555 Olympic Highway, Brucedale An opportunity to purchase a piece of Riverina history becomes a reality on the 24th March when this iconic property is presented for Auction. Only a 10 minute drive north of Wagga, lies this Tuscan inspired home and refurbished chapel. Originally built in 1876 and being situated on 1.5 acres, these meticulously maintained grounds provide an established and stunning venue for weddings and other functions. The main house is simply beautiful with tasteful fixtures and fittings, the French doors opening out to the front porch are over 100 years old, coming from the dividing wall at Mt Erin archives and have been cut and re-glassed to fit into the house. In turn with more history the French doors leading from the second bedroom to the private patio were imported from Reims, France after the owners fell in love with them during one of their international journeys. The interior boasts two large bedrooms, both with built in robes, plus an open study or home office, two bathrooms and an open plan combined living and kitchen area. The kitchen offers a butlers pantry and is very spacious with an abundance of cupboards. Timber concertina windows open from the kitchen to the light filled second living area, or formal dining area. The shed offers an abundance of opportunities to store cars, boats, caravans, tools or any extra furniture. Inside the shed is a fully self contained one bedroom studio apartment, complete with a kitchenette, bathroom and split system air conditioning. A separate office is located in the shed which also has three phase power, fans and multiple entries. This is an incredible space.

Your chance
TO BUY A PIECE OF
HISTORY 1555 Olympic Highway, Brucedale It’s been 25 years since Brian and Jeanetta O’Leary rode their motorbike out to see the tiny church in Brucedale, and, unintentionally, drove straight past. “When we came past on the highway you couldn’t see it because it was so dense. The nature strip was full of acacia trees and you couldn’t even see the church,” Jeanetta said. In a case of, ‘seek and ye shall find’, the O’Leary’s drove to a high point and from a distance spotted the back of the church. They returned, made their way through the dense overgrowth, and pushed open the stubborn gate. “We fell in love with it,” Jeanetta said. Built in 1876, the Wesleyan Chapel has a long and proud history in the region. Without pews, churchgoers in the 1870’s brought boxes to sit on which were filled with home-grown produce to give to the travelling minister. Among the faithful was a young Mary Cameron, who later became the prolific writer, poet and journalist Dame Mary Gilmore (1865-1962). She has featured on the Australian $10 note since 1993. Dame Mary wrote about the sermons at the Brucedale Chapel. Call it chance or destiny, Brian and Jeanetta’s love transformed the Brucedale property.
They restored the battered church which had been painted orange and blue by the former owner a ceramic artist, they cleared the grounds, built an oversized shed for Brian, then an energy-efficient home and turned the reclaiming bushland into lush, manicured gardens. “We’re still together now so it worked out,” Brian said. On 17 September 1995, before more than 100 guests and locals, the chapel was blessed by Catholic Bishop William Brennan for use by all denominations for weddings, christenings, and even the celebration marking the centenary of the Kangaroo March when 88 men marched from Wagga to Sydney to sign up for The First World War. Brian’s daughter was the first to get married in what’s been an endless number of weddings at the Brucedale chapel. “Sometimes we’d have two and three weddings a day, it’s been a lot of work for us, and, at our age, it’s time for us to move on,” Jeanetta said. “Everyone just loved coming here and word spread, It just went on like topsy,” she said. “It just went on and on and on,” Brian said. “We had an 85-year-old couple come out and get married and they’re still alive, they’re in their 90’s living up the coast. Fr Plunkett married them out here.”
1995
“We get Scottish pipers, A Fijian wedding, all types of music, all sorts of cars. They come on tractors, they bring their dogs dressed up as if their dogs are like their baby, they bring their cats,” Brian said. A godsend was when a diviner from Cootamundra discovered an underground aquifer that faithfully pumps out 60 litres of water a minute. Now, the O’Leary’s have decided to sell this historic, stunning property. “The auction of the property is coming up on the 24th March, but every Saturday in the month leading up to that, the property will be open for an open house inspection,” Jeanetta said. The entire property will go under the hammer which includes the restored 1876 Wesleyan Chapel, the O’Leary’s home which has three bedrooms, two showers, open-plan kitchen, living and lounge room. The dining room features an overarching pergola complete with restored French doors from the archive room at Mount Erin’s Chapel in Wagga and another antique set of doors from Reims in France. “We’re having an auction to see what it will bring, and we’re hoping it will sell on the day,” Jeanetta said. For thousands of Australians who have a historic attachment to the Wesleyan Chapel or Brucedale, the 24 March auction will be one to watch.

seem like open plan is the only way to go when living in a small
so make sure you look up. Can you add vertical storage, shelves
Try to separate zones and create designated spaces. It may house, but sometimes everything can just end up looking messy with no real home for items and furniture. You can use screens to divide areas like a bedroom from a bathroom. Put coat or shoe racks in the entry to keep all those necessities in one area. Put a console table up against a couch to separate living and dining while also gaining some extra storage.
RETHINK SPACES
After living in the same small space for some time you can become stuck in a rut and might need to rethink how you use all the areas in your home. Think about corners and dead spaces. Can these be better used? Maybe they could be turned in to good storage spaces with vertical book shelves or a small office space?
MULTI-FUNCTIONAL FURNITURE
Buy pieces of furniture which can be used for more than one purpose. For example, a trundle bed can be great for sleepovers, or a storage ottoman can be used for resting your feet, extra seating or where additional blankets can be
Smaller homes require you to be creative about your storage or modular cabinetry to empty spaces? Maybe you could add a shelf above your TV with baskets to store DVDS, remote controls or magazines.
PAINT COLOURS
Go light and bright. No matter what, a light colour will make the room feel bigger and less crowded. I would opt for the same wall and ceiling colour so it all blends together with no starting and stopping. If you do love colour though, use it in your accents like cushions and feature artwork.
CLEAN UP
More often than not you’ll be editing, culling and living lighter with a smaller home which can be good! It’ll help you sort out what’s important and you’ll save money by not wanting to fill a large home with unnecessary homewares.
SOFT ANGLES
Choose furniture which is easy on the eye with soft edges and angles. Big chunky furniture is rigid and jarring in a small

This week we want to pull it all together and explain to you why we use paint. As we all know there are hundreds of different types of surfaces or as we like to call them substrates - to protect and beautify with paint. To protect substrates paint can be regarded as the sacrificial coating and you can plainly see the damage the sun does to anything exposed to Ultra Violet light. This includes outdoor furniture, steel which rusts, pavers, pool fences and even your roof tiles. A great way to think about paint is that it is the protector of all our substrates. When used outside it needs to endure the harshest and
apply it correctly. To protect interior surfaces, you want a quality paint which can withstand everyday wear and tear, one to repel stains and one you can wash and clean without leaving marks. The perfect example is Dulux Wash and Wear - the market leader and available at Inspirations Paints. Due to the vast range of materials used in substrates, this is one of the main reasons why you need to consult a qualified paint professional for their advice on how, where and why to use the correct painting system.
