POLO SKELETON
This year Piaget is donating a unique piece to the 2023 Only Watch Charity auction in Monaco, designed and created specially for the occasion - The Piaget Polo Skeleton.
The Piaget Polo has been a style icon combining refined materials, craftsmanship, design and a unique sense of style since 1979. Both an embodiment of a way of life and a work of art in itself, with its disruptive design and a unique style that has evolved over time, the piece is immediately recognisable to watch enthusiasts.
This iconic example of the Maison’s watchmaking style also evokes the Piaget Society’s values of shared joie de vivre. Its iconic fluidity offers a second skin feeling, immediately embraced by the world’s elite: the Piaget Society, where the jet set, haute couture and high watchmaking intersect. This comes as no surprise when you remember that Yves Piaget formed a close friendship with Andy Warhol in New York, in the heyday of Studio 54 and Regine’s. Warhol himself owned no fewer than seven Piaget watches. The Polo won the hearts of Ursula Andress and Steve Martin, and captivated Miles Davis, Bjorn Borg, Roger Moore, and many more.
Since 1979, its harmonious proportions have masterfully combined curved lines and signature details. With yellow gold and brightly coloured hard stone dials, the watch has stood the test of time, erasing the boundaries between distinction and exuberance, flamboyance and discretion. Intensely refined, the piece embodies all the Maison’s values in terms of watchmaking excellence - a model of masterful complications and ultra-thin movements.
When you hear “jet set” and “Côte d’Azur”, Monaco instantly springs to mind. Piaget has decided to donate a unique piece to the 2023 Onlywatch charity auction, which takes place every two years in the Principality to raise money for research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The piece is a creative brightly coloured Piaget Polo Skeleton arty edition, both artistically technical and coolly chic. Its design pays homage to the “Hexa Grace” artwork by Victor Vasarely, which is exhibited in Monaco.
Beating to the rhythm of a coloured Manufacture calibre 1200S1, with green, blue and rose-gold coloured skeletonised bridges, all specifically designed for this unique piece, the ultrathin movement, only 2.4 mm thick, is housed within a rose-gold case measuring 42 mm in diameter and only 6.5 mm in thickness. This unique Piaget Polo Skeleton Arty is coupled with a blue interchangeable strap, also designed specifically for the occasion.
