THE POWER OF INSTINCT

PAD LONDON
- 16 OCTOBER
After two years of online-only activity, PAD London is returning this month for a week long showcase of incredible design, craftsmanship and innovation.
Now in its 14th edition, the fair will once again delight art and design lovers with a world-class selection of works spanning Contemporary and 20th Century Design.
Faithful to the distinctive flair and originality that forged PAD’s reputation over the years, this highly anticipated edition will premiere outstanding works by emerging and iconic talents, while also shedding light on rare, age-old techniques, new sustainable crafts and innovative materials that inform design today.
Many of the visionary exhibitors who have contributed to PAD’s prestige are returning, joined by prominent international galleries and jewellery houses which will make their debuts at the fair.
Highlights of this year’s show include, New York dealer Cristina Grajales celebrating her 16-year collaboration with French designer Christophe Côme with a booth entirely dedicated to the artist’s oeuvre in glass and enamel. French gallerist Philippe Gravier will unveil a series of lights especially commissioned from Bernar Venet, one of France’s greatest living artists; and Athens-
based design studio Voukenas Petrides (Gallery FUMI) will reveal a twisted cylindrical light sculpture in bronze from their new Haptic Nature collection.
Founded in 2007 by fourth-generation Parisian antique dealer Patrick Perrin, PAD London provides a platform for young talents with new works by emerging artists from around the world. Chinese innovative material designer Jie Wu (Gallery FUMI) will be showcasing artworks and furniture that are made by casting antique rosewood in resin of varying colours; and Chilean designer Abel Cárcamo (88 Gallery) who creates whimsical functional sculptures in the shape of animals, such as the Llama chair, will also be at the fair.
Many designers and artists in the fair focus on innovative sustainable techniques and responsibly sourced materials. These include two Mexican designers who are committed to preserving their country’s legacy of artisanal craftsmanship: industrial designer Fernando Laposse (Sarah Myerscough Gallery) who works with indigenous communities to create striking pieces of marquetry made from the colourful leaves of Mexican maize and Juan José Nemer and Mauricio Alvarez from the design duo ad hoc

(Ammann // Gallery) who create objects and furniture made in collaboration with local artisans, using high-quality materials such as ixtle (a natural fibre from agave).
Year after year, PAD has introduced maestros and young artisans who cultivate rare, century-old techniques, invent new crafts and experiment with unconventional materials. This year, ceramics and glass artists occupy a prime position: Italian-Taiwanese design-duo, Vezzini and Chen (Adrian Sassoon) will unveil a new wall-mounted glass installation by London-based young Italian-
Taiwanese design-duo.
Since its inception in 2007, PAD’s ambition has always been to provide inspiration for the most distinctive interiors by sparking a dialogue between art and design, disciplines and periods, past and present. This year’s edition is no exception.
Faithful to the distinctive flair that forged PAD’s reputation, the fair’s 14th edition will highlight jewellery as an art form, with a world-class selection of one-of-a-kind pieces by master jewellers, contemporary artists and designers from around the world.
The fair will premiere works by emerging and lesser-known designers, as well as new pieces created especially for the occasion. Pushing the limits of artistry, some of the jewels due to go on display were created using pioneering digital technologies and unconventional materials, others result from traditional crafts and a sustainable approach. The artist jewellery in the selection also demonstrates the power of jewellery and its ability, as any form of art, to question today’s society.
Cipriani, who has contributed to transform the market for artist jewellery since the creation of her gallery in 2009 and today represents over 30 artists, will also unveil a new project at the fair: Salvia, her second collaboration with the Italian artist Giuseppe Penone. Produced in a limited edition of 10, the 18-carat gold ring depicts a sage leaf with a musical note (pictured left). The last time the gallerist and the sculptor worked together, 11 years ago, they created a necklace which is now part of the collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Other highlights in Cipriani’s selection include jewels made in collaboration with the renowned Greek sculptor Sophia Vari and Italian artist Giorgio Vigna.

This year’s edition hopes to welcome even more guests than ever, delivering an offering beyond previous years, and this presentation of jewellery is sure to bring in the crowds. Whether you are interested in buying or simply want to explore and lose yourself in the world of fine art and expert craftsmanship, PAD has something for everyone and is set to once again be the stand out event at Berkeley Square.

POSSESSION
Piaget look to the past as they delivery a stunning collection for the present. The beautiful Possession collection revolves around a spinning movement and a shape. Both unique and playful, it is more than collection, it is an invitation to turn life on and freely express our personalities.
Simple and sophisticated, the collection invites creativity and stands as a rallying sign for a community eager to experience, explore and have fun while being given a chance to tell its own story with impeccable style.
Created in 1961, the Décor Palace is the epitome of Piaget’s gold craftsmanship. Inspired by the guilloché technique traditionally used on watches, this Piaget signature adornment gives gold sumptuous light effects by meticulously texturing the precious material with irregular streaks. Manually engraved, each Décor Palace piece is one of a kind. Adding on to Possession’s exclusive turning element, the Palace Décor makes this new set of seven rings and one triple rose gold earring even more special.
Piaget’s unique expertise in gemmology is also on display with incredible gusto. On every ring and earring, the diamond is highlighted thanks to two half spheres of gold surrounding it, known as the “half-moon setting”.

Paired with Piaget’s excepetional understanding of how to mix colour, volume and textures in an unmistakably artistic approach, each piece in the latest collection makes a statement in its own right. With one or two paved turning rings, half-moon set diamonds, bigger or smaller size, white or rose gold, Piaget’s creativity and savoir-faire are perfectly expressed through these new rings. Because Piaget lives for doing things better than necessary, it took all of the Maison’s crafts mastery to add a special piece to the collection: the Possession Rainbow Ring. It displays a spectacular array of green tsavorites and coloured sapphires. Organized into a spectacular rainbow colour chart, each stone has been carefully selected to find the perfect colour and size for each gemstone to smoothly transition to the next.
Possession is a click announcing something about to happen, as the starting point of new beginnings. The collection is an invitation to play, to twist, to turn life on, offering endless possibilities to mix and match the pieces. Worn on their own or stacked together, the Possession collection and its newest Palace Décor iteration demonstrate a perfect sense of elegance combined with historical knowhow.
A NEW WAY TO BUY
Following 14 years at the forefront of the luxury pre-owned marketplace, British brand Xupes has announced an exciting new partnership with online watch marketplace, Chrono24 coinciding with the launch of a spectacular experiential destination, ‘ The Barn by Chrono24’.
Co-founded in 2009 by CEO Joe McKenzie in his hometown of Bishop’s Stortford where the businesses headquarters are still based today, Xupes’ watch business now begins a new chapter fully integrated into Chrono24 following a successful first year in partnership.
Their other luxury goods arm focussing on handbags, jewellery and accessories will remain under the Xupes name to create a distinct separation from the watch side of the business while the servicing business takes on a rebrand to ‘The Watch Atelier’ who are on hand to authenticate and service everything coming into the business while also providing services for private clients.
This latest progression isn’t just about the integration of two
standout platforms, but the creation of a whole new way to experience and buy watches improving the service and interaction customers receive.
The Barn by Chrono24 will house the Chrono24 UK business within its grade II listed walls which is set within the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside just North of London. Featuring beautiful client experience spaces built upon the DNA Xupes created in the pre-owned market, this space is set to welcome clients from across the watch world, from individual buyers to dealers and collectors.

CEO, Joe McKenzie says, “Xupes has always been heavily focused on customer service and standing out in an overcrowded market. As the market has professionalised over the past few years, we’ve seen a need to do things in a more personable way, creating community and bringing watch dealers, lovers and collectors together. This new barn gives us a chance to do this in a way that hasn’t been done before in our market and continue to improve

the quality of watches and take the experience our clients have to new levels.”
The barn not only features an incredible working environment for the business and service side, but also a bar, lounge and private rooms furnished by Soho Home, which is part of the Soho House Group, whom they have established a partnership with. The multifunctional spaces stretching over 12,000 sqft are perfectly suited for intimate experiences with your choice of watches, but also able to host larger events.

The new company also benefits from dedicated spaces for creating content in-house including videography and photography studios providing the perfect platform to continue growing their online profile with the support of this new found physical base. Joe further comments: “Lockdown drove a large amount of business that would have taken place physically online, accelerating a transition that had been happening gradually. We’ve seen
consumers interact with our company in new ways which we must keep pace with. We look forward to creating more video and social content focused on our expertise and passion for watches using this new environment.” The space will also enable the company to offer new services such as safe-keeping, maintenance and ongoing valuation of luxury watches.
CEO of Chrono24, Tim Stracke, said: “We are excited to have a permanent base in the UK for our customers to visit and to identify with Chrono24. The UK remains an important market for us and one which we hope to continue to develop over the next few years. This beautiful barn gives us a new way to connect with our customers and a place to run events to enrich our marketplace and the watch community we’re part of.”

This is a pioneering moment for the brands, setting new standards for an immersive client experience which is ready to welcome you now.

FORZE
Creating instruments to serve modern heroes, leaders whose adrenaline-fueled exploits awaken the imagination is the fundamental reason Panerai exists. The Italian Special Forces represent the manifestation of that ideal; their elite military units may be called upon at any time to carry out perilous missions.
And in a year when Panerai will highlight the importance of its Submersible collection, divers watches that are essential survival tools, the Forze Speciali inspired two references: Panerai Submersible Forze Speciali Experience Edition and Submersible Forze Speciali.
Both watches share fundamental technical specifications, though each has a specific aesthetic presence. Their 47mm cases in DLC-coated titanium are fitted with unidirectional rotating ceramic bezels. Dials featuring indexes composed of solid blocks of Super-LumiNova™ provide maximum visibility in darkness. And small seconds and chronograph subdials, positioned at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock, are in bull’s eye formations reminiscent of a marksman’s target.
A masterwork of the Panerai manufacture in Neuchâtel, the P.9100/R movement that animates the watches is a masterpiece of the brand; the caliber has a three-day power reserve and was conceived and assembled in-house. Its workings include two highly sophisticated complications, the flyback function that allows the chronograph to reset and restart with one press of the pusher at eight o’clock and the Time to Target countdown, which indicates the time until a designated rendezvous.
To operate the countdown the watch’s wearer will repeatedly push the button at 4 o’clock to set the central chronograph hand at the desired interval; pressing the chronograph stop/start button at 10
o’clock begins the countdown, indicating the time remaining until arrival at the target and time elapsed after it is reached.
Distinguished by a green ceramic bezel, Panerai Experience engraving on its caseback and a rugged rubber camouflage strap, the Panerai Submersible Forze Speciali Experience Edition is unabashed in its focus on military-ready performance. A second included strap in black Sportech with a Velcro closure offers an option with an understated aspect without sacrificing high-level performance. Also included is a tool to allow interchangeability of the straps and a screwdriver for removing the buckle.
Panerai is the first brand in the watch industry to present spectacular experiences associated to innovative timepieces. This is a brand new way of experiencing and living the brand, building a solid relationship with clients. The objective is to stage Panerai as a lifestyle brand, to create excitement, sell emotions and unique experiences that money can’t buy.
Available in a limited edition of only 50 pieces, the Submersible Forze Speciali Experience Edition integrates an element of adventure. Each purchaser will be invited to Italy to join Italian Special Forces troops in a series of exercises, putting the watches through their paces in the process.
Similarly, the Panerai Submersible Forze Speciali, is limited in number, with only 300 available each year beginning in 2022. The black DLC-coated titanium case is paired with a blue ceramic bezel. On the caseback is an engraving of a Marina Militare frogman, an artful reminder of its capacity for underwater exploits. Two black straps are included with the watch, one in rubber and one in Panerai Sportech with a Velcro closure, a tool to change the straps, and a screwdriver to remove the buckle.

CHANEL PREMIÈRE
In the Chanel watchmaking universe, the Première watch has been a shining star since 1987. Taking the octagonal shape of the stopper of the N°5 perfume bottle for its case and dressing it in black lacquer while borrowing the interlaced leather and chain strap of the iconic quilted bag for its bracelet, the Première surprised the watchmaking world that until then had been governed by masculine codes.
Thirty-five years after its creation, this authentic lesson in style now makes its reappearance in its original version styled in its most cherished quality: timeless appeal.
The Première watch was conceived by Jacques Helleu, Artistic Director at Chanel back in 1987 who had joined the Maison thirty years earlier to take care of “problems of taste”. This remarkable man, who had devoted himself to Chanel from the age of 18, was still humorously wondering “what it was all about”, even as the success of the Première watch confirmed his tenacious talents. “I fought to make a design that was strong, that was unique, thatmore than just launching a single collection - would become an eternal reference,” declared the man who ushered Chanel into the world of watchmaking.
For Arnaud Chastaingt, Director of the Watchmaking Creation Studio, the Première embodies the spirit of Chanel watchmaking. “The Première was the first page in our watchmaking history. It
was born out of an absolute freedom of creation and it initiated a vision, the “Allure of Time” as measured by Chanel. In 2022, I wanted the Premiere to find its place again and to put it at the heart of our collection. This creation is our DNA and a Chanel code through and through. Far more than a watch, the Première is a lesson in style.”

If the Première made a remarkable entrance, this was first and foremost because it freed itself from masculine codes, to appearfitted or as a bracelet - on the wrists of women. For the first time, a watch intended for women was not a scaled-down version of a men’s watch, but an elegantly audacious creation wholly dedicated to them. Since 1987, the spirit of the Première has lived on as an ode to the freedom of every woman who lives in the present and seizes the moment.
The Première dial and beveled glass are instantly recognizable by their octogonal shape. A geometry directly inspired by the stopper of the N°5 perfume bottle, which in turn recalls the outline of place Vendôme, which Gabrielle viewed from her suite at the Ritz. The Première makes the interwoven leather and chain its flexible bracelet, fitted with an incredibly refined clasp. Thus the Première plays with these icons to create a new one, one that has and will continue to endure the test of time.
A black lacquer dial set within a gold octagonal case, the sleek chanel.com

surface stretches out, unruffled by the passing of time. There are no numerals or indices, no second hand or date display.

Under the beveled glass, two pared-back hands finished in gold move in this microcosm of infinity, while a crown set with an onyx cabochon completes this two-tone geometry.
In 1987, for the launch of the Première, Chanel opened two dedicated boutiques - in Paris at 40 avenue Montaigne and in Geneva at 43 rue du Rhône - followed in 1990 by place Vendôme. There the Première watch appeared with all the freshness and charm of a jeune première, displaying its many variations over the years with as much ingenuity as elegance. In 2022, as Chanel Watchmaking and Fine Jewellery finds its new home in the completely redesigned townhouse at 18 place Vendôme, the Première returns to the spotlight, in a version that is subtly streamlined and - ever so faithful to itself - resolutely a watch of its time.

PHILLIPS
Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo have announced three exceptional timepieces by the founding father of independent watchmaking, George Daniels, to be offered at the Geneva Watch Auction XVI on November 5-6. The unique Spring Case Tourbillon in yellow gold (estimate in excess of CHF 1 million), a yellow gold Anniversary limited to 35 pieces in yellow gold (estimate CHF 300,000-600,000) and a yellow gold Millennium limited to 48 pieces (estimate CHF 250,000-500,000) will be amongst the leading highlights of the Geneva auction.

The Spring Case Tourbillon is a tour de force wristwatch and a leading example of Daniels’ beautifully hand-crafted creations that incorporate the various inventions he made. Daniels only made two unique wristwatches for his own personal use; one of these being this exact novel double-dialled spring case watch with one-minute tourbillon and calendar, completed in 1992.
While simple in its appearance, the double-dialled watch is technically impressive; from both its movement and dial display but also to its surprising spring case, enabling the watch to be
popped open to reveal the back dial.
The watch features stunning hand guilloché silver dials in the classic Daniels manner with eccentric gold chapters showing hours, minutes, and interlaced seconds, with a subsidiary for power reserve indication. The reverse dial shows the calendar indication and visible tourbillon escapement.
The ingenious two-part case has an inner section holding the movement, which is hinged to the outer, so that when released by a pusher in the band it springs open to reveal the reverse dial. To affect this neatly, the winding crown is cleverly positioned between the lugs. The tourbillon had already become a signature element of Daniels work, rotating in one-minute and featuring his slim Coaxial escapement. Daniels’ invention of the Co-axial escapement in 1975 was subsequently fitted to all his watches thereafter, it was also adopted by Omega and later by his protégé, Roger Smith.
Daniels was so pleased with this wristwatch that it became his daily wearer. He reluctantly parted with it in 2005 after a friend eventually persuaded him to sell it. The double-dialled watch is now being offered in public at auction for the very first time.
Alexandre Ghotbi, Head of Watches, Continental Europe & Middle East, said, “Following an extraordinary first half of the year, with 100% of watches sold, we are now looking ahead to an exciting fall season. George Daniels was one of the greatest
watchmakers in history, and it is an honour to present not only a unique tourbillon wristwatch with spring case, made fully by hand by Daniels himself and appearing on the auction market for the very first time, but also two of the most sought-after wristwatches by an independent watchmaker ahead of the Geneva Watch Auction: XVI in November. For Daniels, a watch had to have historic, intellectual, technical, aesthetic, amusing and useful qualities, a mantra that he applied to all his creations, with these three examples being no exception. Daniels’ legacy continues to influence the generations of watchmakers that follow him, and we have no doubt these three watches will inspire those able to visit our early preview at Geneva Watch Days this August.”
During his lifetime and by his own hand, George Daniels made 23 pocket watches and just two unique wristwatches. In addition, and in collaboration with Roger Smith, two further tourbillon wristwatches and two production series of wristwatches; the Millennium and Anniversary watches have been made.

Also included in this group is a George Daniels Millennium, created in 1999 to celebrate the arrival to the market of the new Co-axial escapement and the first example of a Daniels watch made in series, which was limited to 48 pieces. This watch features a heavily modified Omega calibre with the Co-axial escapement as well as Daniel’s distinctive guilloche dial.

Moving Forward While Looking Back
Globe-Trotter celebrate 125 years of travelling the world with the Original 4-wheel
Leading the way since 1897, Globe-Trotter has been the essential companion to travellers exploring the world for 125 years.
Simple, elegant and practical, the suitcases remain iconic to this day. A faithful companion, the stylish accessories are heirlooms in their own right being passed down through the generations.

To mark the company’s 125th Anniversary, GlobeTrotter is launching a new collection based on the Original model that was amongst the first to the South Pole and the top of Everest – but with 4 wheels.
As the name suggests, the designs have remained unchanged since 1897, when an innovative material called vulcanised fibreboard (“VFB”) was used to create the brand’s first ever cases. VFB is tough yet lightweight, making it the ideal material for luggage, upstanding the journey, and has always been central to the hand-crafted Globe-Trotter cases.

Its legendary toughness is coupled with flexibility - composing 14 layers of paper, cotton and wood pulp bonded together through a patented process to form one strengthened sheet. Master craftsmen heat is applied to bend and mould these sheets into luggage and bags ready for any conditions.
The cases in the Original range are the most lightweight the brand offers, allowing ease for the user while not compromising the original strength of material, ensuring durability to last for years.
A must for any modern traveller, Globe-Trotter further cements its place in the luggage world with a classic that stands the test of time.

The fifth floor of The Guardsman is home to The Summerskill residence, with an outdoor 700 sq ft rooftop escape - perfect for

Not to be missed is the striking Afternoon Tea. Taking inspiration from the local fauna found in the nearby Royal Parks, the stunning tea is a great example of the much-celebrated British tradition.
Starting with a quartet of delectable sandwiches, from Burford brown egg mimosa and rocket mayonnaise served on turmeric loaf; Truffled chicken mayonnaise; Rare roast beef and cream of horseradish; to Goldstein Scottish salmon, cream cheese and lemon butter on sourdough.

tart, and Toadstool, a delicate strawberry yogurt mousse and lemon sponge.
The rich Black Rose chocolate ganache and black cherry compote is definitely the one to save for the end!
Finally, whilst The Guardsman promises a playful twist on a much-loved tradition, there are certain things that really can’t be changed. Thus, this bountiful spread will also include freshly baked fruit and plain scones served with Dorset clotted cream and preserves.
The tea is served with a glass of Perrier-Jouet Grand Brut Champagne, and The Guardsman is proud to serve Canton Tea, widely recognised as one of the world’s finest suppliers.

Most of their teas are beyond organic; some are biodynamic and several can be traced to abandoned tea farms where the plants now grow wild. Others are from ancient tea trees in the forests of Yunnan and Vietnam.
A delightfully leisurely affair, The Guardsman’s Afternoon Tea is priced at £45 per person, inclusive of a glass of Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut Champagne. Vegetarian, Vegan and Gluten-free Afternoon Teas are also available, at the same price per person.

2 x Crown Prince Pumpkin
200g Pickled Walnuts
200ml Walnut Oil 100ml Olive Oil 4 Cloves Garlic 4 Sprigs Rosemary 500g Kale Sea Salt
250g Grated Parmesan
Strozzapreti Pasta with crown prince pumpkin, pickled walnuts and kale
By Adam SmithAdam Smith is executive chef at Michelin-starred, Restaurant Coworth Park in Ascot. Named as the Roux Scholar in 2012 and awarded Craft Guild of Chefs Restaurant Chef of the Year in 2015, he joined Coworth Park as executive chef in 2016, overseeing all its culinary outlets, and in 2021 was awarded the Michelin-star for Restaurant Coworth Park for a fourth consecutive year.

A quintessential Autumn dish, designed by chef Adam Smith. This dish provides all the comforts that come along with the Autumn season and is perfect for eating in front of a wood burning fire whilst watching your favorite movie with your loves ones.

METHOD
Peel one of the crown prince pumpkins, cut into 6 even wedges and remove all the seeds and pith. Cut the wedges into a 2cm dice, make sure you reserve the trimming. Cut the second crown prince pumpkin into 6 even wedges, leaving the skin on but removing the seeds and pith.
Line a baking tray with tin foil leaving plenty of overhang on all sides. Place the skin on wedges and trimming of pumpkin onto the foil, drizzle with 50ml olive oil, a sprinkle of sea salt, pepper, 2 thinly sliced garlic cloves and 2 rosemary springs. Add in 5 tablespoons of water.
Cover with another layer of tin foil and scrunch all the side together to create an airtight seal. Place into an oven at 170°C for 45min, until the pumpkin is very soft without any colour. Once cooked remove from the oven and allow to cool.
Place the diced pumpkin into a baking tray, season with sea salt, pepper, 50ml olive oil, 2 whole cloves of garlic and 2 springs of rosemary. Cook at 170°C until lightly coloured and tender. Reserve for service.
Remove the cooked wedges from the foil and scrape all of the flesh of the crown prince pumpkin away from the
skin, remove the rosemary and discard. Add the flesh along with the garlic and any juices from the baking tray into a food processer and blend until smooth, season with 50g grated parmesan, salt and pepper, it should be a thick soup consistency.
Remove the pickled walnuts from the liquor and slice into 5mm thick slices.
Pick the kale away from the large stalks and wash well.
Cook your pasta in boiling salted water until al dente and drain in a colander. Into the same pan add the pumpkin puree, ½ of the diced pumpkin and 100ml of the walnut oil. Once hot add the pasta into the sauce with ½ of the remaining parmesan.
In a separate pan add the remaining walnut oil and sauté the pickled kale with the second half of the diced roasted pumpkin.
Mix ½ the kale through the pasta and empty into your desired serving bowl. On top evenly distribute the remaining kale and pumpkin, along with the last of the parmesan. Place the sliced pickled walnuts over the top and serve. Enjoy!

THE MACALLAN HORIZON
Bentley Motors and The Macallan have revealed a unique prototype of the first product to be produced by the collaborative partnership. A ground-breaking design, The Macallan Horizon will be the first limited edition single malt whisky being created by the brand collaboration.
A reflection of the sustainability core that’s at the heart of the partnership together with a joint purpose of innovation, The Macallan Horizon prototype fuses traditional craftsmanship, recycled materials and an exclusive horizontal design. Created following extensive joint development between Bentley Motors and The Macallan, two brands steeped in history and leaders

in their respective fields, this prototype encapsulates a joint ambition of building a sustainable future from the rich heritage of both brands.
In homage to The Macallan’s acclaimed Six Pillars - the foundation stones of the brand that account for its distinctive single malt whiskies - The Macallan Horizon incorporates six unique upcycled, repurposed or ethically sourced materials which are integral to The Macallan and Bentley Motors.
The jointly crafted prototype vessel is unlike any bottle of whisky in history. The unique design defies the traditional vertical aesthetic of a whisky bottle and reflects the horizontal shop.bentleymotors.com | themacallan.com
trajectory of a car, pushing the boundaries and the art of the possible. Accordingly, the vessel sits horizontally in a purposebuild cradle, and has no standing base.
At the centre of the design is a hand-made glass bottle with an extraordinary 180-degree twist, representing the mastery of space and time achieved by The Macallan and Bentley Motors in creating the prototype.

The vessel is then surrounded by an intricately twisted 3D structure crafted in a suite of beautiful, sustainable materials. The arms of the structure are crafted in recycled copper from the disused, curiously small spirit stills which were located within

Champagne Day is the perfect excuse to host a dinner party or even an intimate family get together. Pick your perfect Champagne and pair with some delicious food.
White truffles prefer vintage blanc de blancs Champagne or one predominantly based on
Chardonnay that achieves a subtle balance of substance and freshness. Game and game birds are the basis of distinctive, robust dishes that go best with more mature, vintage Champagne. While desserts made from ripe fruits, with a grainy, crispy even crunchy texture benefit from mature rosé Champagne or demi-sec Champagne that have the substance and vigour to make them seem ‘smoother‘. At your dinner party, why not take the chance to educate your guests on best ways to store, chill, open and serve Champagne, or even try drinking your favourite Champagne from different shapes of glass. Go through the below guide on how to best serve Champagne for your #ChampagneDay event.

Storing
Allow the bottle to settle after a long transportation. Store your bottle in the dark - a dedicated space that is free of odours.
Store at a temperature between 10 and 15°C in a ventilated storage area. The ideal humidity is between 60-80%.
You can store your bottle upright or lying down.
Temperature and Chilling
Immerse the bottle in an ice bucket half fill it with water and ice, 30 minutes before serving. Alternatively, you can place the bottle in the bottom of the fridge a few hours before serving. Recommended serving temperature is 8 to 10°C (46 to 50°F).
Opening the Bottle
Wipe the bottle with a white napkin. Present the bottle. Remove the foil cap. Loosen the wire cage and remove it, holding the cork.
Tilt the bottle at a 30° to 45° angle, be careful not to point the bottle towards a person. Hold the cork firmly and rotate the bottle, gently removing the cork keeping it in your hand.
Serving and Glassware
Pour in two stages, two-thirds filling the glass. A tall glass that widens in the middle and narrows at the top allows the wine to express its aromas and for the bubbles to develop.
After Serving
Use an airtight cap to reseal the bottle after opening. Placing a small spoon in the bottle’s neck does not actually preserve the bubbles.

ALL-NEW DIRECTION
The second generation NX delivers more than a simple update to this SUV line. It signifies an all-new direction for the brand across design and development from powertrain to driver interaction, and it appears to have paid dividends.

The all-new Lexus NX brings a vastly improved second generation to the model line. From aesthetics both inside and out to functionality and driving quality, everything has been changed, for the better. This new iteration is more than just an update, it is the start of a new chapter in Lexus design and brings with it new powertrains, including their first plug-in hybrid electric.
Inside, the difference is also more than apparent, with a new multimedia platform that takes centre stage enhancing the driving experience through entertainment, functionality and safety improvements. In fact, no less than 95% of this car is new when compared to the outgoing generation.

When launched in the UK, the original NX quickly became the best-selling model, and this all-new model is set to continue that trend with improved, well, everything to help it on its way. Despite changes across the board, this car remains true to the core philosophy of the brand and simply builds on the success of its predecessor.

From a visual perspective, the design welcomes a new period of evolution for the brand, delivering the application of leading-edge design and technology, with finesse. Preserving the avant-garde character that has seen so much success, while using a more sophisticated, mature and dynamic design language for the new
generation. The result: an amalgamation of design and performance providing improved aerodynamics, noise reduction and fuel efficiency while delivering a sleek, athletic, angular exterior aesthetic.
The recognisable front design now plays a more integral role in a more upright position, which helps improve airflow into the engine compartment, and dispenses with its chrome frame. Its lines flow back to accentuate the already long bonnet and generate the overall form and volume of the body as it flares broadly through the muscular rear wings.
Top-end models including; Premium Plus Pack, F Sport and Takumi are all fitted with four-projector LED headlights with the first slim Adaptive High-beam System that completes the front end design. This long and sleek front-end contrasts with a condensed rear section which features a short overhang and powerful haunches for an even more athletic look.
Under the surface, the new NX 450h+ delivers Lexus' first plug-in hybrid electric car with a sufficient 309PS and up to 61 miles of fully electric range on an urban cycle. Opening up to a much wider market thanks to this all-new powertrain offering, the NX draws on more than 15 years of hybrid technology expertise. Delivering a 2.5-litre engine paired with both a front and rear electric motor, the 450h+ will accelerate from 0-62mph lexus.co.uk
in 6.3 seconds, while providing CO² emissions figures of 25g/km and economy of up to 313.8mpg.
Efficiency is at the fore with this car and it executes it perfectly. The addition of a PHEV option will bring a much wider audience to the Lexus marque than previously available and for good reason. It's not just under the bonnet where efficiencies have been improved. Inside, the driver interface has undergone a dramatic revamp, once again for the better.
Taking note of pretty much every other manufacturer on the market, the new NX welcomes a large, widescreen touch display that offers functionality never before seen in a Lexus. Not only is the interaction considerably easier than before, but you have access to so much more information that you don't even need to drive anywhere to be entertained.
Everything from music to safety features are instantly accessible and easy to adjust at the touch of the screen meaning you can tailor your driving experience to exactly how you want it.

If this is just the start of Lexus' new look, then there should be some exciting times ahead for the brand,
this is such an improvement over the outgoing model that
would be crazy not to consider upgrading, especially to the top-end 450h+ plug-in option.
MERCEDES
Mercedes' 230 SL began production in 1963 and continued until 1967. The chassis was based on the W111 sedan platform, with a 30cm shorter wheelbase. It also featured recirculating ball steering (with optional power steering), double wishbone front suspension and an independent single-joint, low-pivot swing rearaxle with transverse compensator spring. The dual-circuit brake system included front disc brakes and power-assisted rear drum brakes.

A 4-speed manual transmission was standard, with an optional, very responsive fluid coupled 4-speed automatic transmission. From May 1966, the ZF 5-speed manual transmission was also available as an additional option.

230 SL
The 2,308cc inline-six engine with 150 PS and 196 Nm of torque was based on Mercedes- Benz' venerable M180 inline-six.
Mercedes-Benz Chief Engineer Rudolf Uhlenhaut demonstrated the capabilities of the 230 SL on the tight threequarter mile Annemasse Vétraz-Monthoux race track in 1963, where he put up a best lap time of 47.5 seconds vs. 47.3 seconds by Grand Prix driver Mike Parkes in his 3.0-litre V12 Ferrari 250 GT.
This right-hand drive example from 1965 is offered in stunning white coachwork with contrast black interior with the optional automatic transmission. It is a car that presents exceptionally well and is a high-end example with a recently refurbished interior and a previous engine rebuild.

REAR-WHEEL
DRIVING PLEASURE
Building its following over 15 years, largely thanks to its incredible composure on the road that the iconic quattro system affords, the R8 has become an icon in its own right. But there was something a handful of petrolheads felt could improve on this precise piece of engineering, and that was to remove the all-wheel drive capability and produce a thrill-seeking rear-wheel drive variant.
Thankfully, Audi are firmly positioned in the petrolhead marketplace and were more than willing to comply, providing customers with an option to sacrifice a little safety, security and handling limitations for, well, fun. The result, the R8 V10 Performance RWD boasting the same sleek yet angular exterior we have all come to love from its quattro counterparts, but missing that one piece of engineering marvel underneath. Instead, in its pleace is an equally impressive setup to ensure you can still remove your face from your skull through corners should you so please.

Under the glass covered tailgate rests a potent, unadulterated 5.2-litre, high-revving, naturally aspirated V10 powerhouse. As
one can imagine, this not only lends itself to some impressive performance figures, but makes a seriously gutsy noise in the process. This engine is derived from racing and differs only slightly from those used in the GT racing series', it's heritage is undeniable, taking numerous awards and achieving cult status. It offers one of the last remaining naturally aspirated options in the segment and should be the go to for any die-hard automotive fans.
Boasting a whopping 570PS and equally impressive 550Nm torque, it can only mean good things for the performance figures. A zero to sixty-two time of just 3.7 seconds, and topping out at over 200mph, this mid-engined monster is not to be taken lightly. The raw, explosive power is only enhance further by the coarse growl expelled from the exhaust during acceleration, something that you will never tire of. Power is transferred through Audi's lightning fast seven-speed S tronic transmission, meaning you can sit back - sometimes without choice - and enjoy the ride as the dual-clutch system does all the work, or take control using the tactile paddle shift option.
It's not all just power, power, power though. The revolutionary cylinder on demand (COD) technology that now features across the VW Group boosts efficiency at low to medium loads, immobilizes the cylinders of a bank in the upper four gears by deactivating injection and ignition. Imperceptible to the driver, this transition is immediate and activated once again as soon as more power is required. It also boasts a coasting function further improving efficiency by disengaging both clutches when the accelerator is released allowing the car to glide along.
The balance between ride comfort and control has always been something that Audi have worked tirelessly to perfect in all of their sport models and the R8 is no exception. Delivering such a high performance handling machine requires a certain level of stiffness in both the body and suspension, except, for every day driving, that isn't very comfortable. Fortunately the engineers behind the development of these cars are so well versed with decades of experience that they understand the necessity for this road-going car to offer equal amounts of comfort. A specifically adapted suspension and driving dynamics setup makes this rear-wheel drive variant incredibly fun to drive while still providing both control and comfort for the driver.
The RWD sports suspension features double wishbones and a passive differential lock with a suspension setup specially adapted to allow for controlled drifts in ESC “Sport” mode. The carbon fiber-reinforced plastic stabilizer on the front axle in conjunction with the sport suspension result in neutral selfsteering behavior in combination with rear-wheel drive.
This R8 iteration comes standard-equipped with the Audi drive select dynamic handling system meaning you can control important technical elements such as the engine, transmission, and steering all at the twist of a tactile knob. A total of four driving modes can be selected: auto, comfort, dynamic, and individual. Dynamic mode is designed for maximum driving enjoyment - it supports spontaneous steering and offers slight oversteer adding to the 'fun'.

Audi can also deliver your car with dynamic steering, which includes a superposition gearing. It varies the gear ratio depending on the speed between 10.5:1 and 15.8:1. Compared with the standard electromechanical version, the dynamic steering system requires significantly less steering wheel rotation, especially at lower speeds, such as when driving on winding serpentine roads, narrow hairpin bends, but also in city traffic or when parking. Not only a benefit for dynamic driving, but offers everyday functionality too.

AUDI R8 V10 PERFORMANCE RWD
The standard steel brake discs are internally ventilated and drilled, featuring wave-shaped contours in order to reduce their weight. Paired with eight-piston fixed calipers, the discs with a diameter of 365 millimeters handle braking at the front axle, while four-piston calipers and discs with a diagonal of 356 millimeters are used at the rear axle. Optional 19-inch brake discs made of carbon-fiber-reinforced ceramic, which are particularly temperature-resistant and durable are also available for even swifter braking.
Audi's R8 styling set the standard from the very first generation that hit the road. Now, the icon continues with race inspired design taking the fore more than ever.

A passenger compartment positioned far forward, accentuated wheel arches, a wheelbase of 2.65 meters, and a long back all take note of race car design. Designed using the Audi Space Frame (ASF) construction, the body lays the foundation for the Audi R8’s consistent lightweight design concept.
Horizontal lines give the front of the highperformance sports car its ultra-wide look - not that it needs much help. The wide and flat singleframe radiator grille features a matte black finish and bears the R8 emblem while above the wide front splitter sit the large air intakes that are divided into two sections
by distinctive vertical winglets. Flat slits under the front hood are reminiscent of the brand’s iconic Audi Sport quattro.
Sleek, aggressive LED headlights with 37 LEDs each are equipped as standard and partially dimmed. The Audi laser light, which nearly doubles the range of the high beam, is available as an option.

The side view of the R8 V10 performance RWD appears streamlined and focused, with sharp lines outlining aerodynamically shaped surfaces. The sill trims extend the front splitter visually and give the R8 a flat, sporty appearance. In the engine compartment, the air filter is located under a new, three-part cover, optionally available in plastic or carbon.
Those distinctive horizontal lines also dominate the rear of the car. The engine compartment’s air outlet grille, which features a honeycomb design, runs across the full width of the vehicle. Meanwhile, with its distinctive fins, the diffuser surrounds the exhaust system’s glossy black and elliptically shaped tailpipes.
Personalization is a hallmark of this car. Its paint fan contains ten colour options, including Ascari Blue Metallic, a colour previously reserved for the R8 V10 performance quattro and the Audi exclusive program allows customers to further customise, choosing the
paint job of their choice. The sideblades are offered in five colours and the custom paint finish.
Inside, sleek lines also dominate. Its most striking element is the monoposto; the large, contoured arch which runs around the area in front of the driver’s seat, creating the atmosphere of a race car cockpit. A freestanding housing houses the Audi virtual cockpit, and the entire instrument panel appears slim and light. The comfort air conditioning system’s control knobs are visually inspired by aircraft turbines, while the air vents, with their vertical slats, are reminiscent of race cars.
Both driver and passenger sit on electrically and pneumatically adjustable and heated sport seats for comfort and support at any speed. With the pedals and footrest made of stainless steel, while the trim is made of carbon fibre for an increased sporty interior feel. A surprising total of 226 litres of storage space is available behind the seats, complementing the 112-litre luggage compartment under the bonnet.
The seats can be upholstered in fine napa leather, Alcantara, or diamond stitching upon request. Audi Sport fulfills almost every wish through the Audi exclusive customisation program meaning you can really make this car your own.

As a driver, you sit in this car as you would a race car. The entire operating concept is focused solely on the driver, allowing you to operate every essential function without taking your hands off the wheel or eyes off the road. The multifunctional R8 leather steering wheel plus offers four control satellites to operate Audi drive select, start the engine, and activate performance mode and engine sound. The ergonomically designed feature is cleverly designed to offer enormous functionality while remaining clean and simple.
Information from the MMI navigation plus appears in the Audi virtual cockpit directly in front of the driver. Its display measures 12.3 inches diagonally, and the driver can switch between views using the “View” button on the steering wheel. The performance view places a large tachometer in the centre of focus. Various displays can be placed around it, such as for power, torque, g-forces, lap times, engine and transmission oil temperatures, as well as tire pressure and temperature.
You won't find many other cars on the market that offer such a close race car experience as this, and certainly not with the volume of options on offer to suit your requirements.

Efficient Living
As the energy crisis continues, there is no better time to look closer to home to help save some money with a few small efficiency improvements. From basic lighting changes to a full set of new, energy efficient windows, there are plenty of options.

SAVILLS

In the UK, Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) are an essential part of buying, selling and renting homes and will determine how energy efficient your home is on a scale from A to G.
The efficiency of your home can be increased with some simple changes to suit different budgets. With the cost-of-living crisis set to affect many homeowners and landlords over the winter months, we have come up with some ways to improve the efficiency of your home.
LED lighting
Replacing traditional bulbs with LED bulbs is a quick and relatively easy upgrade to score additional EPC points. While though the initial cost is higher LED lightbulbs are a long-term solution, as they are more energy efficient and typically last longer than filament light.
If you are a landlord, and your Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) expires before 2025, it is worth considering making the change to LED lighting throughout, especially if you notice your halogen bulbs keep blowing or have signs of heat damage or wear.
Roof insulation
Installing insulation in your loft space is another easy and particularly efficient way to improve your EPC score and can reduce heat loss by up to 20%. Increasing your insulation thickness will reduce the amount of heat being lost through your loft space and insulate your home more effectively, keeping your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It can also add relief from noise pollution.
Wall insulation
Wall insulation can be a very effective way of improving your EPC rating, reducing heat loss from your exterior walls and carbon footprint. If you have
a cavity wall construction the insulation can be blown into the cavity from small, drilled holes in the brickwork/pointing. While installation needs to be carried out by a professional, and can vary in price it can be one of the cheaper types of insulation and comes together with savings on annual energy bills.

EPC EASY WINS & HOW TO INCORPORATE THEM INTO YOU HOME
Upgrading your windows
Double glazed windows can boost your EPC rating by circa 5-10 points and are a highly effective and could reduce heat loss through windows by up to 70% and triple glazing around 85% or more. Typically lasting longer than single glazed windows, double and triple glazing additional benefits such as increased security, lower noise levels and less condensation. They can also increase a property’s value if you are looking to sell or attract prospective tenants if you choose to let your home. Heritage friendly windows are available if conservation is needed.
Efficient heating system
Having an efficient heating system in your home is a good way of improving your EPC rating. Insulating hot water and heating pipes will reduce heat loss directly, while smart controls will help ensure your home is heated to the right temperatures or that you are not using unnecessary energy if your property is likely to be empty for a few hours a day or for prolonged periods of time.
Other future proofing options, like Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR), solar water heating or solar panels can reduce heating, reduce utility costs and improve your EPC.
Barnsbury Street London, N PW
A newly designed and built very unique freehold house. Set in an exceptionally central location it is a conversion of the former warehouse which served the 1881 department store fronting Upper Street between Barnsbury Street and Waterloo Terrace.

If it’s time to replace an old inefficient boiler consider moving away from fossil fuels toward electric systems like a heat pump, which can harness the increasing amount of renewable energy supplied to the National Grid.
Choosing and installing new systems correctly can be complex so ensure that any design or installation work is carried out by a qualified professional.
Other upgrades and little wins
Good ventilation is key for a home’s air quality, but unwanted air leakage means heat escapes and results in higher costs. Stopping draughts through floorboards, under skirting boards, through loft hatches, around doors, windows and letter boxes will help create a more comfortable home that costs less to run.
Important tip!
If you have had insulation installed that may be hidden from the EPC assessor, make sure you keep the documentation for this. Improving insulation can on occasion lead to overheating risk if not considered properly, so ensure that any work is carried out by a professional.
Canary Wharf
HelloI started my property career working for an independent estate agent in the Wapping area. Since 1994 I have been based in and around East London. I started my own company in 1995 and it has grown from humble beginnings to become a well respected sales, lettings and property management agency operating in the Docklands and East London areas. Then in 2007, I opened my first branch in the Medway area. I am proud that we now have three branches in Kent. My operation is set to expand in 2020 and beyond.
I am a long term member of both the NAEA and ARLA and a former Regional Representative for the latter. As the owner of a growing residential and commercial property portfolio, I understand well the trials and tribulations that property owners go through. I have well over 20 years experience of regenerative Dock’s areas and specialise in new development reporting.

I am happy to advise you on all aspects of property. So, if you are looking at your first buy-to-let (even if it is with another agency), or have trouble with a tenant, feel free to contact me. I offer honest and impartial advice.
Spencer FortagDocklands Tenants’ spiralling energy bills are about to become Docklands Landlords’ problem
As gas and electric bills rocket for Docklands tenants, Docklands landlords who do not start to make energy efficiency upgrades face lengthy void periods and will have to discount their rents. This is irrespective of the Government’s plans to change the rules on renting properties with low Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) ratings.
Until six months ago, out of the thousands of tenants I have shown around Docklands properties in all my years as an agent, I can count the number of tenants who have requested to see the EPC of the rental property on the one hand. Now, it’s the first question tenants ask.
The better the EPC rating, the lower the gas and electric bills.
Docklands tenants are leaving their poor EPC-rated properties which are too expensive to run and moving into higherrated EPC rental properties.
The average heating bill for the 12,567 Docklands (E14) tenants will rise from £68.38 per month to £177.78 per month.
And their hot water bill will rise by £32.50 per month and lighting by £21.80 per month.
Each Docklands tenant will have to find an extra £163.70 per month for their gas and electric bills.
To give you an idea of the extent of the money being spent by Docklands tenants on heating alone (ignoring hot water or lighting), last year it was £10,311,314.72, and by 2023, it will be £26,809,418.28 a year.
Yet these stats don’t tell the whole story.
It is a legal requirement for every rented property to have an EPC which rates a
property on its energy performance (like those washing machine or fridge ratings, albeit for a property). A is the best rating, and G is the worst.
Whilst the law states property cannot be rented with an EPC rating lower than an E in England and Wales, there are exceptions to this, meaning Docklands rental properties are still being let legally with an F and G rating. Although legislation for a minimum E rating EPC requirement in Scotland was scheduled in 2020, it never passed through the Scottish Parliament because of the pandemic.

Let me show you the average saving in energy bills between the EPC rating of an average Docklands rental property.
• A Docklands rental property with a D rating will cost £38.50 more per month than a C-rated property
• A Docklands rental property with an E rating will cost £67.66 more per month than a D-rated property
• A Docklands rental property with an F rating will cost £97.16 more per month than an E-rated property
Both Westminster and Holyrood governments now propose introducing a minimum EPC of band C for all new tenancies from 2025 (and 2028 for existing tenancies).
Irrespective of this new potential legislation, those Docklands landlords with low EPC ratings will now need to seriously consider making those energy efficiency upgrades to ensure their
Docklands rental properties continue to appeal to tenants.
I can see Docklands rental property’s energy efficiency ratings filtering into rental prices over the winter months.
Docklands rental properties with low EPC ratings will probably rent for between 4% to 10% less than higher energy proficient properties.
This means Docklands landlords could have to accept between £134.08 and £335.20 per month less for an average Docklands property with a low EPC rating compared to a high-rated EPC rental property.

Any Docklands rental property with a lower EPC rating will also take longer to find a tenant, especially during the winter. This means some Docklands landlords will have the prospect of void periods early next year.
I have seen more Docklands rental properties coming onto the market in July and August, so if this trend continues, this will give Docklands tenants much more choice. With the increased supply of rental properties, I certainly believe some tenants could decide to offer less on Docklands rental properties with low EPC ratings.
So, what are the options?
I am experienced in reading EPC reports and aware of the most cost-effective way to improve the EPC rating of your Docklands rental property. Irrespective of whether you are a landlord client of my agency, another Docklands lettings agency, or you even manage your property yourself – feel free to drop me a message. I will find your EPC on my database
and give you 5/10 minutes of my time, over the phone, at no charge, to guide you on the best options. What do you have to lose?

Docklands house prices ought to be falling – these are the reasons they are not.
Looking at the newspapers with their doom and gloom headlines, you would think that the Docklands property market (and the British property market) would be on its knees.
Yet ring some Docklands estate agents for a viewing or free valuation, and if you can get an appointment within a week to ten days, you are doing well!
British properties continue to sell in good numbers.
In July and August 2022, sales have been agreed on an average of 25,476 UK properties per week.
Interesting when compared to the averages of 27,351 sales agreed per week in 2021 and 26,382 sales agreed per week, year to date in 2022.
So why is the Docklands property market defying all expectations?
