E

ighteen13 Boutique Wine Shop’s objective is to stock wines from lesser-known and boutique wineries to introduce new tastes to its customers. With this in mind, there are a number of different events in store – from “meet the maker” events where winemakers introduce their wines to the audience, to food and wine pairings. Q: How did your business start? A: It was started in Joburg by a wine lover from Cape Town who saw that people in Gauteng generally only bought the wines that they knew, or commercial wines, as this was all they were comfortable with. He wanted to introduce the joys of discovering new wines and wineries to a wide audience and started the first Eighteen13 Boutique Wine Shop in May 2014.

Q: Why did you choose this area to set up shop? A: The Waterkloof area was chosen because of the high profile of the residents as well as the fact that it is close to embassies, universities, government departments and shopping areas. These are the ideal customers for a shop such as Eighteen13. Q: How did you find your premises? A: We approached a number of rental agents and managers in centres similar to Waterkloof Corner. One agent immediately realised what we wanted to achieve and identified the specific premises for us. Q: Why are the premises ideally suited to your business? A: It’s ideal because of the profile of the residents and the embassies, universities, government departments and shopping areas in the surrounding area, and the tenant mix in the centre that supports our objectives. Q: Who are your neighbours? A: Our next-door neighbour is Follicle Hair Atelier with whom we have a very close working relationship. We have a number of areas of cooperation and we generate business for each other. Q: What are the shop rental/ sales prices like in this area? A: It is higher than average due to the location. Q: What is your shop footprint? A: A s the shop is still very new, we are still building the clientele.

Q: Do you have any expansion plans? A: Yes, we would like to expand to similar areas once this shop becomes profitable. Q: Do you operate online as well? A: Yes, through the Eighteen13 Wine Circle. For a monthly fee a wine lover can become a member of our wine club, which includes six expertly selected wines delivered to your home each month as well as great discounts on all our events and purchases in store. Q: What’s your most popular item/service? A: One of our most popular wine ranges is an organic rooibos-wooded wine with no added preservatives or sulphites. It is a much healthier option for those with allergic reactions to sulphites and has caused quite a hype all over the world being the only wine of its sort.

New Nedbank building in Umhlanga

N

edbank has committed to investing R1bn into a new mixed-use office and retail development in Umhlanga, KwaZulu-Natal, which is currently under construction. The iconic Park Square development, which is located in the fast-growing Umhlanga Parkside node adjacent to CJ Saunders Park and opposite the Gateway Theatre of Shopping, will have a four-star Green Star Design and As-Built rating and will serve as one of Nedbank Group’s flagship campuses in KwaZulu-Natal. According to Anand Joseph, divisional executive, Nedbank Corporate and Investment Banking Property Finance in KwaZuluNatal, the bank’s R1bn investment in the Park Square development

project is further demonstration of its confidence in KwaZuluNatal as a vital commercial and retail hub for South Africa. “In addition to creating employment opportunities for many people from surrounding communities, Park Square reinforces the seriousness with which Nedbank takes its responsibility to playing a vital part in the ongoing growth and development of South Africa’s economy,” says Joseph. Once completed, Park Square will offer 40,000m² of gross lettable area, of which 4,000m² will be for retail usage, while the remaining 36,000m² will be commercial space, 18,000m² of which will be A-grade offices. Around 50% of the office component will be occupied by Nedbank itself.

With five of the top 10 most expensive suburbs in South Africa located on the Atlantic Seaboard, this area remains one of the hottest property investment destinations and continues to attract interest. ome automation has taken a significant technological leap forward over the last few years.
