P

retoria’s easterly suburbs of Garsfontein, Moreleta Park and Erasmuskloof offer the best of both worlds. The well-established, quiet, tree-lined residential areas offer a tranquil lifestyle within comfortable reach of comprehensive suburban facilities such as top schools, state-of-the-art medical facilities, leading shopping malls, inclusive entertainment, sports and recreational facilities and a range of churches of different denominations.

Lying just east of the N1, alongside Solomon Mahlangu Road (M10) between Delmas and Atterbury roads, with easy access to the N4 and R21, travelling between Pretoria, Joburg and OR Tambo International or Lanseria International airports and even Mpumalanga is trouble-free. As resident Henri-John Kock says, “We have good schools, we’re close to great shops – but not too close, we’re close to the N1, but not too close.”

Property

Traditionally, property owners in the age groups 36-49 and 50-64 together accounted for between 71% and 75% of stable owners in these three suburbs. Keeping pace with the recent trends of younger individuals and families moving to Pretoria’s eastern suburbs, these suburbs

are currently seeing an influx of residents in the 18-35 age group. The residential property mix in Garsfontein and Moreleta Park – two of Pretoria East’s largest middle-to-middle-high-income residential neighbourhoods – gives a good reflection of its diverse population. Properties vary from compact lock-up-and-go units and traditional townhouse complexes, to comfy duets and large freestanding family homes on sizable erven, with most of the new properties being erected in modern lifestyle estate developments and boomed-off areas. Properties in Garsfontein are perhaps somewhat more traditional, while those in the ever-expanding Moreleta Park are more contemporary. Garsfontein is also home to quite a few pleasant retirement villages.

We just love Garsfontein. The suburb is well established and the neighbourhood is peaceful and safe, while we’re close to wonderful shopping centres and excellent schools. We’ve been residents of Garsfontein for the past 11 years and we’ve recently bought a second property here. CASANDRA SMIT, RESIDENT

school, while Moreleta Park’s neighbour, Wingate Park, is home to the esteemed Pretoria Chinese School. Other excellent neighbouring public schools are Hoërskool Waterkloof, The Glen High School, Glenstantia Primary School and Constantiapark Primary School.

These Pretoria East suburbs are particularly popular among families with small and school-going children because of the area’s superb access to a myriad child development, pre-school, daycare and extramural facilities, as well as its proximity to several of Pretoria’s top schools.

Many private schools and education institutions can be found in the area, such as Eastside School, Hatfield Christian School, Sindawonye Higher Primary School, to name but a few, meeting a broad spectrum of personal and curriculum needs.

For the last few years, Laerskool Garsfontein has won the Best of Pretoria Readers’ Choice Awards presented by Rekord newspaper as the Best Afrikaans Primary School, while Hoërskool Garsfontein was awarded the 2017 title for Best Afrikaans High School. Garsfontein borders the popular Curro Woodhill College private

The Moreleta Kloof Nature Reserve, with various self-guided walking trails along streams and forests, an abundance of birdlife, a variety of antelope and small game, offers families a great outing into nature in the middle of the city.
