NOË BY YOUR When Luc Dereu’s teen daughter Noëmie couldn’t find pumps to match her outfit a couple of years ago, a plan started to bubble. “After some serious research it became clear to me that there are no shoe brands whatsoever offering a simple classic pump in a big variety of colours, one colour for every mood. Different heel sizes was also not a common option.” says Luc. “So I decided to develop a wonder brand myself.” The result is Noë, reinventing the classic pump, designed and produced by Luc and his wife An. “By offering 65 (!) colours in 3 different heel heights, available in different shapes (from pointy to oval), it quickly turned out that we were winning over all the women at a high speed” Luc laughs. “For €90 you can get that perfect pump, perfectly matching the colour of your dress.” Meanwhile, the Belgian brand started conquering the rest of the world. Noë is now distributed in over 10 countries and adorns women’s feet from fashionable New York to Aussie girls and trendy French ladies at Lafayette. When YOUR opened its doors last year, the colourful pump ranked high on the wish list of YOUR’s founder Jorrit Baars. “The concept turned into a success right away, the pumps were sold out in no time at all” says Baars. “A couple of brainstorm sessions later, Baars and Dereu agreed the time had come to open a Noë flagship store in Antwerp which opened its doors just a few weeks ago: a couple of doors down from the majestic YOUR store, Baars filled a whole store with rainbow-coloured pumps. “Jorrit’s track record is very impressive” says Dereu. “He has an impeccable feeling for retail and lifestyle and he is the ideal partner for Noë”. LUBIN PERFUME
The House of Lubin, established in 1798, is one of France’s oldest luxury brands. The family-owned house was sold and resold several times between the 1970s and the end of the 20th century, and only a decade ago it was on the brink of bankruptcy. Today it’s one the most sought-after luxury brands on the planet, and Lubin can be found on the shelves of prestigious department stores and exclusive retailers in some 20 countries. YOUR presents the brand exclusively in Belgium. A story about revolution, the birth of dandyism and the very first trendsetters. Pierre-François Lubin, one of the greatest ever perfume makers, left an indelible mark on the art of perfumery. Born in 1774, his life spanned one of the most turbulent and exciting times of French history. Lubin was initiated to perfumery at the age of 10, under the apprenticeship of Tombarelli, a perfume master in Grasse. In 1790, he left Grasse for Paris (better clubs!) to complete his training under Jean-Louis Fargeon, who was then still serving as the official perfumer to Queen Marie-Antoinette.
EVEN DURING HER IMPRISONEMENT IN THE TOUR DU TEMPLE, THE FRENCH QUEEN CONTINUED TO RECEIVE REGULAR SUPPLIES FROM HER LOYAL PERFUMER. EVERY DAY SHE WORE AN EAU DE TOILETTE CONTAINING CITRUS NOTES. And her favourite was the scent of roses, a fragrance that Fargeon captured with great skill. After the revolution, Lubin began distilling his own compositions at Paris workshop. In 1798 he opened his first boutique, Au Bouquet de Roses, a discrete tribute to the Queen, who had by then met her tragic end. His subtle blends and exotic fragrances soon made him popular with the most coquettish and sophisticated members of society and he became the most fashionable perfumer of his day.

THANKS TO HIS ILLUSTRIOUS PATRONAGE, LUBIN WAS SOON TO BECOME THE FAVOURITE PERFUMER OF 19TH CENTURY EUROPEAN ROYAL COURTS. Known as Les Incroyables or the Incredible Ones, while their beautiful, extravagant companions were referred to as Les Merveilleuses or the Marvelous Ones, they were the first trendsetters. Their extravagant way of life soon became the symbol of a new Parisian savoir-vivre. Following this fashion, Empress Josephine, wife of Napoleon, had the young and talented perfumer supply her scent. And Napoleon’s sister, later to become Princess Borghese, even lent her name to one of Lubin’s perfumes. When the Bourbon dynasty returned to power in 1815, Lubin claimed his title as the holder of the Beauty Secrets of the French Court, the legacy left by Fargeon. The patronage of the Duke of Angoulême prompted Lubin to rename his boutique Aux Armes de France.

THE CREATIONS OF THE YOUNG PERFUMER WERE APPRECIATED BY THE FIRST DANDIES WHO EMERGED AFTER THE TURMOIL OF THE FRENCH REVOLUTION. In 1821, Lubin became the official supplier to George IV, King of England, and to Tsar Alexander I of Russia in 1823. Mind you, all this without a Blackberry or mobile internet. In January 1844, the House of Lubin came into the hands of Felix Prot, who had trained under Lubin and remained close to the founding father. He started the process of internationalising the house and also constructed Europe’s first modern perfume factory in Cannes, on the Côte d’Azur, which opened it’s doors in 1873. For the first time, steam machines were used to extract essential oils to produce the perfumes. Paul Prot, his son, took over the reins at Lubin in 1885. A true visionary and far ahead of his time, he learned to speak fluent English and German through his studies abroad - a rare skill for a 19th century Frenchman. In the 1920s, Paul’s sons took over. By that time, Lubin was not only a household name in European courts and trendy homes, it was also a BIG hit in the United States. Despite the tough economic climate, the company launched Nuit de Longchamp in 1937, a timeless perfume evoking the nightly splendour of a white flowered garden. Nuit de Longchamps became a particular favourite in America where it success lasted for several decades. By the end of the 1930s, the perfume had become a global success and was especially treasured by the international upper classes. It gave a boost to the then ailing company and helped it to recover. A new team launched Gin Fizz in 1955. A creation of celebrated perfumer Henry Giboulet that paid tribute to one of the most beautiful and elegant women of the 20th century, Grace Kelly. Paul and André Prot remained involved until the end of the 1960s, launching l’eau Neuve with great success in 1968. By the time they launched L de Lubin in 1975, the company had been sold to an industrial group and started a period of slow decline. By 1998, Lubin was on the brink of bankruptcy, but a group of investors managed to save the historical perfume house. The new version of Idole was finally launched in 2005 and allowed Lubin to re-establish its status as an exceptional perfume house of great acclaim. Today the House of Lubin has regained all the glory of former days and creates extraordinarily creative perfumes of the highest quality that will enchant the YOUR clientele. LE VETIVER BY LUBIN Le Vetiver – a fragrance designed by Lucien Ferrero - was inspired by wintertime Paris, but is still a summer favourite. Go figure! The notes are: mandarin, orange, grapefruit, neroli; clove, nutmeg, allspice; vetiver, cedar from Virginia, myrrh, incense, white tobacco.

Inspired by the ancient maritime spice routes, from Madagascar and Zanzibar in East Africa to Java in the Spice Islands of Indonesia, Idole is a completely modern reinterpretation of a 1962 fragrance by the house of Lubin. Rum and exotic spices mingle with dark, smoky woods and leather, creating a warm and very seductive fragrance that never overwhelms, thanks to the light touch that is the hallmark of its creator, the celebrated perfumer Olivia Giacobetti. The stunning bottle by Serge Mansau was inspired by the sail of the traditional wooden boat known as a felucca, and features a carved African mask on the cap -- a true collector’s item.

‘BYE BYE 08. FLOWER POWER.’ NIGHTSCAPE BY ULRICH LANG NEW YORK This is the third fragrance from Lang’s eponymous Ulrich Lang New York, Nightscape. This follows his first two scents, Anvers and its sequel Anvers 2. Lang is a big fan of patchouli - and that shows in this rich fresh fragrance - but feels it is a scent that points to the future rather than the 60’s and 70’s vibes usually associated with the ingredient.
