e all know that to keep our body in shape we need to exercise our muscles every day, but apply the same principle to the muscles in your face and you’ll soon banish those telltale signs of ageing. “Facial massage and exercise help increase blood supply to the skin, which stimulates collagen production and helps plump out fine lines,” explains skincare expert Lesley Reynolds Khan. “It can also improve lymphatic drainage, which will further help to boost the function of your skin cells and keep your skin looking the best it can for longer.“ Like all new exercise regimes, to see long-term results you need to keep it up! “Unless you exercise muscles they become weaker, so you need to do them every day to maintain muscle tone,” says Lesley. But, the good news is that these simple exercises are quick, easy to do and you’ll see results at any age.

Firm up forehead lines Place your middle fingers just above your eyebrows in the centre of each brow and pull down while trying to raise your eyebrows. Repeat ten times twice a day and it will really help to firm up your forehead and smooth out those worry lines.

What causes wrinkles and sagging skin?
D A gradual loss of volume under the skin, which can cause that ‘deflated balloon’ effect. D A loss of springy collagen and elastin due to natural ageing, sun damage and smoking. D Natural expressions, such as frowning, smiling and squinting, can cause common lines to form, so tightening these areas will help smooth them out.
Define your cheekbones Place your index and middle fingers on your cheekbones an inch from your temples. Tuck your chin into your chest, then lift the muscles up towards your temples, and slowly breathe in and out. Stretch the skin by opening and closing your mouth slowly, repeat five times twice a day to tighten up sagging cheeks and help define cheekbones.
Banish saggy eyelids Sagging eyelids will greatly benefit from this exercise and you’ll really see a difference. Start by staring straight ahead. Then raise your upper lids in five tiny movements, next lower them again in another five tiny movements. Do this ten times twice a day or even three times if you have the time!

Pop your index finger in your mouth and suck as hard as possible – then slowly withdraw it. Do this ten times, twice a day to keep lips firm and plump. To help reduce smoker’s lines, keep your lips over your teeth and smile as wide as you can, hold for two seconds and repeat ten times twice daily.
