MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDATI BOARD CHAIR

Eric Le Dain

The Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School Foundation, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, was established 23 years ago as an independent charitable entity. The Foundation’s role has been to hold and steward the endowed funds and the building and land assets of Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School (STS).

Each year, the STS community generously donates to meet not just the School’s immediate needs but also to continue to grow the endowments to serve the needs of students today and in the years to come The endowment funds were established by the forward-thinking STS founders many years ago Today, the STS Foundation is focused on sustaining and growing the endowments to provide opportunities for exceptional students to attend STS through scholarship and bursary financial assistance. This critical initiative allows deserving learners to cover a portion of their tuition and receive an STS education despite financial constraints. And, of course, the inclusion of scholarship and bursary students enriches our community in a multitude of ways

The STS community, including past and current parents and employees, students, alumni, and other supporters, donated $269,093 to the endowments trust fund and capital fund during the 2023-2024 fiscal year. Additionally, the Foundation received $26,700 from pledges made several years ago by committed long-term donors in support of the facilities and other priorities of the Inspiring Possibilities campaign

The Foundation granted $577,424 from the endowments/trust fund in 2023-2024 for student financial assistance (ie. scholarships, bursaries, prizes, etc.) to support 99

students or roughly 13 percent of the student population This level of financial assistance is meaningful and contributes in part to bringing exceptional students to the School who might otherwise not be in a position to attend In addition, as per donor wishes, another $12,256 was granted to support Health and Wellness initiatives for the entire student body.

This Report contains the Financial Position and Revenue and Expenses statements for the fiscal year ending August 31, 2024 The Foundation's endowments portfolio value increased by approximately 13 percent after fees but before accounting for donations and awards Taking into account all fees, donations, and awards made during the year, the total value of the endowed funds grew by approximately 10 percent, reaching $12,316,579

The Board would like to acknowledge Wayne Chiu, who officially retired from the Foundation Board in March 2024 after three years of Foundation service. We will miss Wayne’s wise counsel and expertise and thank him for giving his time to support STS, both on the Foundation Board and, before that, on the Board of Governors

The Foundation exists to support and help further the School’s strategies, including Flourish 2031, and recognizes the STS campus, endowments, and community as extraordinary. We are committed to doing our part to help nurture, protect, and strengthen these assets for the benefit of today’s and tomorrow’s students.

Respectfully yours,

For additional information, including detailed notes on the financial statements, please get in touch with the School’s Finance Office at 403-938-4431.

Generosity THE IMPACT OF

STS focuses on building leadership and character, while also giving students the freedom to be curious and find their passion. I have felt so welcomed at STS and appreciate how much the community cares about everyone.

The best part about STS, in my opinion, is the unwavering dedication to fostering overall development. Students aren’t just prepared for academic success, but also for a lifetime of meaningful contributions to society

I am deeply grateful to the donors of STS. Without your generosity I wouldn’t have had the chance to be part of this unique environment. I am determined to succeed, carrying your support and belief in me every step of the way!

Being surrounded by motived and talented individuals has instilled a sense of discipline in me, helping me define a clear path for my future. I feel prepared for what comes next

Without the support of the bursaries you so generously donated, I would not have had the opportunity to experience all that I have at STS. I will be forever grateful for my time here I cannot wait to hit the ground running for my last senior years

Over the past year I’ve taken part in many activities, taking advantage of all the opportunities in front of me. I volunteer to give back to the community that welcomed me so warmly.

The moment I first put on my STS uniform, all I felt was joy. Your generosity has lightened the financial burden for my family and empowered me to seize every opportunity in front of me.

Atkinson SOCIETY

Over the years, STS has benefited from the foresight and generosity of community members who have left a planned gift to our School. Our campus was seed-funded through a $250,000 bequest from W.H. Atkinson in 1968. In tribute to this monumental gift in our School’s history, (which today would have been worth $2.5 million), we have named our planned giving program the Atkinson Society.

STS is grateful to the following donors who have supported the School through a planned gift (future and realized). The vision these donors bring to our School will benefit future generations of STS students.
