With tourism, agriculture and real estate traditionally the country’s strongest sectors, manufacturing is now growing at its healthiest rate in 19 years, job creation over the past 12 months has been among the highest in the Eurozone, and Spain’s central bank has just revised upward its 2017 growth forecast from 2.8 to 3.1%, while the 2018 growth prediction has also been increased from 2.3 to 2.5%.
El turismo, la agricultura y el negocio inmobiliario han sido los sectores clásicos de mayor pujanza. On the nation’s real estate front, a recent report by BBVA Bank puts Málaga – which of course includes our very own Costa del Sol – firmly in the frame as the province to have registered the highest percentage of homes sold in Spain, with demand up by nearly 15% between 2014 and 2016. And, incidentally, during that period property prices in Málaga also rose by 3.1% – not only equating to three times the national average, but also placing the province in third position in Spain after the Balearics and Barcelona. Building licences for new housing projects are up by 55% in Málaga, too, with the province leading the field, much in the same way as Madrid, Barcelona and Alicante. And despite the ongoing uncertainty of Brexit, from holidays to homebuying Britain’s enduring love affair with Spain continues apace.
