TREASURE COAST — The Martin County Commission was

the first to dive into the proposed Indian River Lagoon Council. At its last regular meeting, Tuesday, Jan. 13, the commission unanimously voted to pay $50,000 a year into efforts to

restore the Indian River Lagoon to health. The St. Lucie County Commission will have an informal meeting 9 a.m. Feb. 10 to view a presentation put on by county

staff, so the commissioners can decide whether they want to join the new council. St. Lucie County Commissioner Chris Dzadovsky said a formal vote would take place Feb. 17 at

ADOPT from page 1 awards event and dinner. That’ll be at Piper’s Landing Yacht & Country Club, 6160 S.W. Thistle Terrace, Palm City, 6 to 9 p.m. Keep Martin Beautiful and the county’s Parks & Recreation Department are also trying to find beaches and parks some loving homes that’ll take care of them. OK, not really homes. But some folks to adopt them, Kevin Abatte, the parks and rec director, said. “We’re going to launch an AdoptA-Beach, Adopt-A-Park program,” he said. The Adopt-A-Beach program is slated to launch with a $15,000 matching grant from the state’s Department of Environmental Protection the County Commission is supposed to approve later this month. The county’s solid waste will kick in another $15,000. “We’ll have it done by April,” Abatte said. Abatte said that Adopt-A-Beach is based on the familiar Adopt-ARoad program that Keep Martin Beautiful runs for the county. The county hopes to radiate Adopt-A-Beach westward to include parks throughout 2015. “Same principles (as Adopt-ARoad) and we’ll continue to work with Keep Martin Beautiful,” he said.

Ranieri said that in addition to running Martin’s Adopt-A-Road program, Keep Martin Beautiful runs Stuart’s Adopt-A-Street program. “We get sponsors to take care of a stretch of road,” he said. “They go out about six times a year and clean up that road. It’s been pretty successful on the roads. Right now, we have about 90 roads and streets adopted throughout the county.” Keep Martin Beautiful gives the road adopters safety vests, bags and sticks. The adopters pick their schedules, but it must be at least six times a year, and they have to submit reports. In exchange, they get their names on signs. With all eyes on the Indian River Lagoon these days, Ranieri said Adopt-A-Road and soon AdoptA-Park make a huge difference in protecting the waters from more damage. “The efforts we do, especially when you get farther west, removes debris, and sometimes people dump things that go straight into the water,” he said. Ranieri added, “There’s an ecological as well as economic impact to this. Tourism is still our bread and butter here in Martin County.” Keep Martin Beautiful also

Keep Martin Beautiful and Martin County are introducing Adopt-A-Beach and Adopt-A-Park in coming months. The programs aim to build on successes of the Adopt-A-Road program.

COUNCIL from page 1 the commission’s regular meeting. If approved by Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, Brevard and Volusia county commissions, the new body will administer monies from the National Estuary Program, get a few more dollars from water management districts and create peer pressure on member counties to fix the lagoon, Fielding said. “(The St. Johns and South Florida water management districts) each will be contributing $500,000. (The Florida Department of Environmental Protection) will be contributing $250,000. The (Environmental Protection Agency) will be contributing about $500,000. Each county that’s a member will contribute $50,000. We’ll have $2 million of base money,” he said. That’s about $2 million a year for projects to clean the Indian River Lagoon, along with a board to look at the science and prioritize projects. The St. Johns River Water Management District now administers the National Estuary Program funding. Fielding said the proposed council was an outgrowth of the Indian River Lagoon Counties Collaborative, a discussion confederation formed by Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, Brevard and Volusia counties. “We have, with the assistance of FDEP and St. Johns and South Florida (water management districts), we are forming a separate, new entity,” Fielding said. “It’ll be called the Indian River Lagoon Council. It will be composed of a county commission member from each of the five counties, a deputy secretary for the FDEP and a board level member for the water management (districts).” Dzadovsky, St. Lucie County’s would-be board member, said the only downside, if any, would be shelling out an additional $50,000 per year. “I think it’s incredibly important to be part of the Indian River

Lagoon Council. You have the ability to have professionals and science-based information along with elected officials to discuss the health and benefits of the Indian River Lagoon” Dzadovsky said. “$50,000 seems to be like a good investment.” The 150-mile Indian River Lagoon — which is formed by Mosquito Lagoon, along with the Banana and Indian rivers — runs along about 40 percent of Florida’s east coast. It provides a lot of economic activity in tourism and commercial fishing. Additionally, it’s a lynchpin to ecology along its route. During the last federal fiscal year, the federal estuary program funded 28 cleanup efforts nationwide, with each getting about $538,000, totaling 60 percent of the total fund. The rest of the money covered administrative costs. Also last year, congressmen Bill Posey and Patrick Murphy co-sponsored the Estuary Urgent Needs Priority Program Act, which was passed by the House of Representatives, but stalled in the Senate. Posey, Rockledge, is a Republican. Murphy, Jupiter, is a Democrat. If the bill passed by the last House of Representatives is taken up and passed by the entire 114th Congress and signed by President Barack Obama, it would make the EPA prioritize its funding to the national estuaries based on competitive evaluations. In other words, the money would have to head to the sickest estuaries first. Additionally, the bill, if it becomes law, would also drastically slash how much National Estuary Program money goes to administrative costs. Posey told Your Voice News & Views Murphy and he are baffled about what the “administrative costs” actually are. He said the two have repeatedly asked the EPA to explain them to no avail. Additionally, the bill passed by the 113th Congress’ House

or all of the golfers out there who have driven by the gated, private golf courses that dot our little slice of paradise and wished that they could experience life on the inside, the wait is over. PGA America recently unveiled St. Lucie Trail Golf Club. For years, the private PGA Country Club could be seen only partially from St. Lucie West Boulevard for most, but on Nov. 1 the newly named golf course was opened to the public. The St. Lucie Trail Golf Club, originally designed by famed golf course designer Jim Fazio in 1988, has undergone a complete makeover including tee boxes, fairways, greens and landscaping. Under the direction of PGA superintendent Dick Gray, the course is in about as good a condition as can be. A few friends and I had the pleasure of playing a round on the new course a couple of weekends ago. It was everything and then some that it was promised to be. From the moment you enter the facility, you get the feel of a private course. The staff, all experienced in dealing with the expectations of the private golf course world, exude all of the class you would expect at a first-rate facility. Under the guidance of new St. Lucie West resident and head golf professional Nate Manis, every-

A challenging, yet manageable track with enough choices of tee boxes to make it playable and enjoyable for everyone from novices to scratch players. The greens are the real challenge to this course. With rarely a flat spot to find, yet as smooth as any greens we have ever experienced, making it to the hole and staying there was often our downfall. It really made us appreciate the expertise of the professionals that play on greens like these on a regular basis. It is a beautiful course to play, as well. Surrounded by oaks and pines and just enough water to get your attention, on your first time out, you can expect to add a few strokes to your average score. Where does your devotion lie? If

we were asked that question, we might come up with myriad answers — children, spouse, faith, sports, leisure, work, etc. Our answer to the question might be our opinion, but the reality of our lives could possibly prove our answers wrong. Bob Dylan stated it best some years back: “You’ve gotta serve somebody.” I would just modify that a little — you have to serve somebody or something. A song from the movie “Bruce Almighty” states “We have a God-shaped hole in all of us.” Regardless of your theology or agreement with the song, humans have a need to fill their lives with things. We all have needs for fulfillment, love, belonging, etc. that we fill with many items. Millions of addicted people are living proof that we all search for something with which to fill ourselves. Aside from the answering of the question, how can we truly tell where our true devotions lie? I would venture to say that three places

We all have needs for fulfillment, love, belonging, etc., that we fill with many items. Millions of addicted people are living proof that we all search for something with which to fill ourselves.

Bill Hughes we can see where our devotions lie are by looking at our checkbooks, by where/how we spend our time and by how we spend our thoughts and energies. Where do you spend the majority of your money? Food, entertainment, charity, kids, clothing, stuff — all take money to support and enjoy. Take a 90-day look at your checkbook or credit card state-

ments and see where the majority of your money goes. There you will find the object of your devotion. Don’t take me the wrong way, I am not saying that the answer is right or wrong — only you can answer that for yourself. We spend an enormous amount of time and thought energy at work to earn our money and this effort, in my opinion, should support something worthy of this time and thought. Think to yourself, am I spending this hard-earned money in beneficial ways, or in fleeting, temporary objects? Where do you spend the majority of your time? Work will be the answer for most of us. Your Timing Won’t Be Off When You Invest Systematically If one of your worries is whether you’re investing at the right time, it shouldn’t be. By investing a set amount of money on a regular basis, you establish a simple routine that can help make your financial goals a reality. In addition, investing systematically can help: • Make it possible to use market fluctuations to your advantage • Add potential growth and diversification to your portfolio • Keep your long-term financial goals in focus Investing a set amount of money on a regular basis does not ensure a profit and does not protect against loss in declining markets. Such a plan involves continual investment in securities regardless of fluctuating price levels of such securities. You should consider your financial ability to continue the purchases through periods of low price levels.

allocated $27 million each year to the national cleanup program from through 2018, requiring 80 percent to be split among the estuaries, and 5 percent toward administration. The remaining 15 percent, under that bill, would be distributed based on need, with estuaries having the most problems with obstacles such as extensive seagrass habitat losses, recurring harmful algae blooms, unusual marine mammal mortalities and invasive exotic species. That would have meant about $770,000 for the Indian River Lagoon, not counting need-based money if awarded. Fielding said creation of the council would greatly help Posey and Murphy get the 114th Congress to act on that bill and other federal efforts to restore the Indian River Lagoon. “By coming together, we have allowed our congressional representatives to be more accepted by their peers in the support, the financial support,” Fielding said. “If that (federal) money was going to one county, one city, there’s resistance to that.”

The proposed council would have no taxing or regulatory power. It will only be able to allocate funds given by other bodies. However, Fielding said it’ll likely serve an ancillary, but important, role. “That management group, which would be composed of the policy board as well, that group will recognize the levels and sources of pollution,” Fielding said. We’ll get research from the groups doing the monitoring. I’m an idealist. We would then accept responsibilities.” Fielding offered a hypothetical example: “‘OK, Martin County, here’s what’s happening — you have septics doing this.’ Then we’d agree to the timetables for mitigation, and hopefully, cessation.” Fielding added, “The management board would be a peer-pressure group that each party would then come to the table and hopefully it’ll be seen as totally unbiased, scientific information about the sources and volumes of pollutants.” According to press reports, a few commissioners in the other four counties have expressed reservations about the proposed council.

Caring Fields Felines will have its second Purrs and Purrls on Saturday, Jan. 31. The event is hosted by The Shoppes at Harbour Bay Plaza and Renato’s Italian Ristorante. It’ll start at noon. “Tickets are $35, and that includes lunch and the fashion show,” Pauline Glover, executive director, said. Caring Fields, formerly the Hobe Sound Animal Protection League, moved to a new 5-acre home at 6807 S.W. Wedelia Terrace, Palm City, last year. The organization runs a no-kill cattery with about 150 residents. For years, it was located at the 23-acre Caring Fields Animal Rescue facility, 6452 S.W. Markel St., Palm City. Caring Fields Animal Rescue was also home to the Equine Rescue & Adoption Foundation, which moved to Martin Highway last year. The Pegasus Foundation owned the property.

The Yarmouth Port, Mass., animal-welfare organization had let the league and foundation stay at Caring Fields Animal Rescue facility without charge for several years, but wanted to sell the property to help support other projects. Caring Fields Felines, which renamed itself in honor of its first home, kicked off a move fundraising campaign — Paws Forward: New Quarters for Cats — in August of 2013. By December that year, it published a press release announcing the purchase of the Wedelia property for $360,000. The organization moved during the summer. Glover said the move went smoothly has been extremely helpful. “I’m amazed how everything turned out,” she said. “I was a total wreck, but I’m really pleased.” The cats’ opinions? “They are all happy,” Glover said. “We are petting cats we weren’t able to pet before. First Tee brings golf, life lessons to kids Brandon Zeris STAFF WRITER

TREASURE COAST — First Tee of the Treasure Coast gives area youth a chance to learn much of the same values that Boy or Girl Scouts do, but with a golf-geared lesson. First Tee has been around since 1997 when it was started by Tim Finchum, current Professional Golfing Association Tour Commissioner, as a way to grow the game when Tiger Woods was beginning his ascent to being one of the game’s all-time greats, First Tee of the Treasure Coast Chairman Andrew Hunt said. “This started out as a push to engage inner-city kids … to give them an opportunity to learn the game,” Hunt said. “This is not a golf program. This is a character, education and life skills program. In a lot of ways,

you find out a lot about a person by playing golf with them for 18 holes — whether they are able to control their tempers, the ups and downs, the ebb and flow, the highs and lows. And, you find out about different personalities,” he said. The First Tee looks to help kids control those emotions when things get tough, along with many other life lessons. Understanding golf course etiquette is one of the most important things for new golfers, said Carl Mistretta, executive director of the First Tee of the Treasure Coast. “We leave the place better than we found it,” he said. “The First Tee is very similar to scouting … we get them at a very young age and they stay through high school. You advance through the different ranks.”

To earn the badge, you’ve got to be able to demonstrate elementary knowledge of golf. Golf skills aren’t as important as attitude and knowing the basics. “A big part part of the early stages of the First Tee is meeting someone, shaking their hand, looking them in the eye, taking off your hat, having a conversation with them,” Mistretta said. Players are also taught how to respect their peers, themselves and their surroundings. When a kid is signed up, he or she are eligible for nine sessions, with each one teaching a different life skill or value. It generally

takes about three nine-week sessions, or two years, for a kid to move up to a new rank, which are classified as Player, Par, Birdie, Eagle and Ace. First Tee is in all Boys & Girls Clubs in Martin County, and it’s working on getting more involved in St. Lucie County. They’ve also partnered with the Police Athletic League in Port St. Lucie. Joint grants with the Boys & Girls Clubs help fund it in Martin County, and, overall, First Tee funds its outreach program through its fundraising, partner donations and grants, Mistretta said. “The only thing we ask our partners to do is get the kids to the

golf courses.” There are also nine-session programs for $120 that are open to the public, and they play along with everyone from the outreach programs. “We got kids who are brought to us on a bus who aren’t they are going to eat dinner, so if we give them a snack, it might be the last meal of the day (for him and he’s) next to a kid who may have gotten dropped off by his dad in a BMW, but they don’t know the difference. They are standing next to each other, hitting balls. They’re just golfers. Rather than kids from low-income families being turned off by playing the expensive game, Mistretta said First Tee instructors use the pricey sport as motivation. “It’s a commitment, and it’s expensive. That’s our sport. We present it to the kids, and we tell them, there’s no reason every one of you can’t be a member at a place like this. “We use golf to say, ‘Yeah, this is an expensive sport, but there’s no reason you can’t make something of yourself and join this club.’ Half of them never been to these places. I bring them sometimes to an event, and the club sets up a buffet, and they’re like, ‘We’re eating that?’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah, grab a plate.’” Hunt said it’s all about getting a new generation of golfers interested in the game. “There aren’t as many golfers as there were 15 years ago. I don’t know what the exact statistics are, but we’re losing participation. So we need to grow a whole new generation, and what better way to grow a whole new generation of new golfers than to teach life skills and courtesy.” Treasure Coast First Tee director of operations, Chuck Knebels, said there are more competitive opportunities, if a golfer wishes to pursue them. “The First Tee is a more developmental thing and not competitive, but, as they get better, the

The first one is for kids whom directors think are going to do well as leaders and go to bigname schools. There are also competitive players academies, with the most notable involving an annual, all-expense paid trip to the acclaimed Pebble Beach course in California for 81 First Tee members nationwide. “They are basically treated like a tour pro,” Mistretta said. In the past two years, two local First Tee members went on the Pebble Beach trip. They also have a veterans-with-disabilities program in which veterans can learn to play golf. “A lot of that stuff we do is 1-on1 or 2-on-1, and we teach them how to play golf,” Mistretta said. The program is fully funded by a $30,000 grant that moves throughout the four counties they are in. Most recently it was in Palm Beach County because of the veterans medical center there, but it moves, based on need. So, once the new veterans nursing home facility opens in Tradition, it may see more play locally. “We’re in the golf capital of the world, so it’s all here,” Mistretta said.

IS THE WEIGHT LOSS INDUSTRY KILLING YOU??????? Thomas D. Kleinman, DC

Atlas Health and Wellness; 1516 SW Mapp Rd; Palm City • 772 781 9987

“Feel Better, Look Better, Live longer”

The holiday season has come and gone and left in its wake, many extra pounds. It’s not unusual to gain significant weight over the holidays. So here comes the New Year and the “I am going to lose weight” New Year’s Resolution.

The MULTI-BILLION dollar weight loss industry is there with all kinds of programs to help you lose weight-Right? WRONG!!!! Statistics show us that diets and radical starvation programs fail to keep weight off in the long run. Americans are losing the same 20 pounds over and over again while their weight creeps up and up. “If weight loss programs actually work why are there so many of them.” Anonymous In fact, if you investigate, you’ll find that these programs: overstate their results, promote hunger, anger and depression, mail you highly processed and refined foods, and may subject you to risky surgeries. Many dieters actually gain back more weight than they lost. Dolly Parton said:”I tried every diet in the book. I tried some that weren’t in the book. I tried eating the book. It tasted better than some of the diets”! You see, we’ve got things backwards. It’s not “if I weigh less I’ll be healthier” but rather “If I’m healthier I will weigh less. Incorporating a fad diet to control your weight is like taking a blood pressure medication to lower your pressure. Once you stop, it comes back and who knows the damage that could be done with some of the more radical programs. When the body functions normally inside, it will not store weight. The body hides toxicity within fat; the more toxic, the more fat. We are exposed to and ingest a variety of toxins daily from air pollution, water pollution, pesticides, chemical fertilizers, processing of foods, etc. Our body is able to detoxify if it has all the nutrients it needs to function efficiently. This however, is increasingly more difficult to do in today’s society.

So What Is A Person To DO????

We invite you to learn more about Functional Wellness Systems and how we can help you improve your health and shed that extra weight for good. Register for one of our Functional Wellness workshops. They are free and may just be the answer you are searching for. Imagine living into your 80’s, 90’s and even longer with health and vitality wrapped in a slim trim package!! Call us today 772 781 9987 and reserve your spot.

If you truly want to get off of the weight roller coaster think in terms of improving your health. It is now possible to take effective control of your health. Every once in a while a revolutionary system comes along that changes everything. That something is called functional medicine or as I like to call it Functional Wellness. Functional Wellness systems provide you with the tools, the knowledge and the ability to take control of your health for a higher quality of life.

Comedy troupe makes fun of political foibles Shelley Koppel STAFF WRITER

skoppel@YourVoiceWeekly.com

MARTIN COUNTY — The satirical troupe, the Capitol Steps began in 1981 when a group of Senate staffers put together song parodies for Senator Charles Percy’s Christmas party. Some three decades later, while all of the Steps are not former Congressional aides, the performers have worked in 18 Congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate staff experience. They also have 30 recordings, including the latest, “How to Succeed in Congress without Really Lying.” Mark Eaton has been with the troupe since 1993 after a career on Capitol Hill and as a lobbyist. He is one of the writers of the group’s material and he spoke recently from Washington about the fertile subject of the foibles of those in power. It is not too early for the Steps to start thinking about the 2016 presidential race, with the Iowa caucuses only a year away. It looks like there will be a large Republican field. “That’s good for us,” Eaton said. “We break out songs like “76 Un-

knowns.” The mid-term elections have also provided fodder, with a medley of songs called “Midterm Madness” that has Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid lamenting their loss of power. “Ted Cruz and the Tea Party celebrate as only they can,” Eaton said. In 2014, some situations that didn’t seem the stuff of comedy still got the Steps touch. For the problems with the health care website, we had, ‘I Don’t Know How to Log In,’ a play on the song from “Jesus Christ Superstar,” Eaton said. “The Ebola crisis is not funny, but the fact that TSA agents are the frontline defense is. The person who makes you take off your shoes and steals your water bottle is in charge of global health. It’s like anything that is a crisis. Tragedy plus time equals comedy. You have to find the setting.” For 2015, the fun is when candidates start throwing their hats into the ring. Art associates present show PALM CITY — The artists of the Palm City Art Associates will present their 26th annual juried show and sale Feb. 6-24 in the Donahue Room of the Cummings Library. A reception will open the event Feb. 6 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. This is the premiere event for the association. Local artists submit work in five categories, including oil/acrylic, watercolor, pencil/pastels/charcoal, mixed media and photography. First, second and third place ribbons will be awarded in each category as judged by an objective, experienced adjudicator. Best of Show will be awarded at the reception. Betty Brain is president of the PCAA, which has been meeting at the Cummings Library since it opened. The 110-member group meets there on the second Wednesday of the month, and meetings are open to the public. Becoming a member is easy, she noted. “All you need is an interest in the arts and $30. It’s not necessary to be showing art. Our goals are dedicated to encouraging

and promoting the creative arts among our members and our community. It’s for anyone who is interested in learning about the arts and different mediums. We have a short business meeting and them a demonstration. It’s an educational, social event to encourage the appreciation of the arts.” Brain has been a member of the group for five years, and with past president Nancy Steinberg, has been working to purchase a hanging display system for the Cummings. “When the library opened, all Martin County libraries had systems for displaying art work,” she said. “When the Donahue Room was renovated in 2007, the hanging system was never replaced. We were able to have our annual show there and quilters and photography groups used it. Our little Palm City Library is a hub of our community. “With budget restrictions in the past, there wasn’t money in the system to make it a priority. The PCAA made it our goal. Since Nancy Steinberg was president, we’ve been raising money to purchase and donate a hanging system. It will be hung in January so our annual show can be hung

First Thursday Molly’s Gallery opening reception will be in February MARTIN COUNTY — February comes alive with art from local artists during the First Thursday Gallery Opening at Molly’s Gallery on Thursday, Feb. 5, from 5:30 – 7 p.m. at 430 S.E. Osceola St., Stuart. Molly’s Gallery is part of Molly’s House Art and Healing program for patients and families in a medical crisis. Artists featured this month include: Nate Streitman, Ginger Carslake, Val Lally, Lucille Solazzi and Jari Shaktman. A $5 donation per person is requested at the door. Live music featuring Annie Greco will fill the house while visitors stroll through the three floors of artwork by local artists. A portion of the sale of the artwork will support the Art and Healing program at Molly’s House. The reception is sponsored by Aycock Funeral Home, Berkshire Hathaway-Gaydos Team, Images in Paradise, Sharkey Air, Martin County tax collector Ruth Pietruszewski and Total Wine & More.

Artist Jari Shaktman’s interest in functional pots began when she was working in Japan. She had been a professional dancer, and the idea of making something that involved several different elements thru movement, clicked with her. She says she enjoys the process, there is so much to learn and clay is such a forgiving medium. The highest compliment she can receive is when someone that has a piece she’s made tells her they have just used it. Otherwise used for nourishment or reflection, an empty bowl is just that, empty. Artist Valerie Lally has had many life experiences, many happy and some painfully sad but she feels that her artwork has always been a gift through it all. It has enabled her to share her joys as well as helped her work through her sorrows. She started her art career eight years ago at the age of 44, when she saw a watercolor painting in a local art gallery and knew then that was the medium she wanted to use to express herself. She took lessons from

Sally Browning Pearson (the artist who did the painting Lally fell in love with) for three years before venturing out on her own. Since she started her art career, Lally has been in numerous juried art shows, won several prestigious awards, including third- and second-place in the Backus Museum and Art Gallery “Best of the Best” annual juried art show and has done an album cover for a popular local traditional Irish band. Her painting “Beauty Enfolds” was the December featured art in Molly’s House 2011 calendar. Lally believes her gift is to capture with her camera the beauty that is all round every day and then putting her interpretation of that wonder on canvas. The greatest gratification, Lally says, is when someone tells her that he artwork has lifted their spirit or has made them smile. That, she notes, is when the gift is returned. Nate Streitman was born in Belgium. As he grew older he became impressed with the Flemish painters. He started to paint in 1971 after coming to the United States. He is self-taught and

paints with oils on canvas. After joining Art Associates of Martin County, he started to paint at Marlee Matheson open studio and the Elliott Museum. Several private collectors have his paintings. His work features the outdoors and landscapes. Artist Lucille Solazzi has lived in Stuart since 1958. She became an art instructor at Martin County High School. She holds a master of arts in art education and design. Lucille is a member of three art leagues in Martin County and currently has an exhibit at the Arts Council and has exhibited in the past at the Elliott Museum. She works mainly in watercolors and is a recipient of juried awards. Ginger Carslake grew up in Columbus, N.J., and currently resides in Jensen Beach for the past 15 years. After graduating from The Philadelphia College of Art with a bachelor of fine arts degree, she took a position as an art director in Miami. From

In 1999, she joined Southeastern Printing and finally settled permanently in Martin County where she is raising her daughter, GiGi. Her intention as an artist is to express directly from her higher-self while allowing some of her personality to show through. It is Carslake’s hope that those who see her work will be reminded of the hope, peace and goodness that God assured us. She recently shifted her focus from graphic design as a format for visual communications to painting. She works in both acrylics and oils from her

home studio. Her hope is to bring a positive light to others. He also has a high-minded reason for a Jeb Bush-Hilary Clinton race. “We have a lot of props we could use that already say Bush and Clinton,” he said, “It’s environmentally sound. Also, both sides say the same line, ‘no dynasties.’” Let the political games begin. The Capitol Steps come to the Lyric Theatre, 59 S.W. Thank goodness Obama surrounded himself with people like Biden to save us.” Eaton said that the debates often bring out the silly side of things.” “The Republicans eat their young in debates,” he said. (In 2012,) every other primary, someone else would win. Herman Cain led. This year will be fun. There’s talk of Elizabeth Warren and Ber-

Pet of the week

I am looking for that “special” someone who will shower me with all of their affection. At 4 years old, I am a shy Catahoula Leopard dog mix darling. Please look into my soulful eyes; now kindly look into your heart. Just think how nice it will be to provide me with a new home for what promises to be the rest of a wonderful long life!
