About HOBY Korea

WHO WE ARE HOBY Korea has been an international partner of HOBY (Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Foundation in the U.S.) for the Republic of Korea since 2003, currently run by Korean Educational Association for Empowerment of Software.

We are the first to introduce unique HOBY-style leadership programs to Korea which were sensational and changed the whole trend of youth programs in Korea. Following HOBY’s vision and mission, HOBY Korea is committed to motivating and empowering young people to make a positive difference within our global society. HOBY Korea is a non-profit organization registered in Seoul Metropolitan City and Civil Social Organization of NGO Branch of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs. HOBY Korea has also partnered with Korean American Civic Empowerment (KACE) and Korea for the Federation of Korean Associations USA to give Korean youth an opportunity to meet US sena-tors and representatives, experiencing the world's best political system, learning about global issues for common good, and strengthening bilateral relationships between S. Korea and the U.S.

We are committed to developing high skilled manpower and encouraging international exchange in the field of science and ICT, and giving youth a variety of opportunities to get interested in collective good such as climate change action, ESG, public interest technology, etc.

WHY WE ARE SPECIAL DEFINITE MISSION AND PURPOSE Our mission is to motivate youth to excel to lead for the collective good. To fulfill this mission, we provide youth with various programs to develop their leadership skills, empower their capabilities at their professions, and teach the importance of pursuing the common good.

OUTSTANDING STUDENTS With competitive selection process, our unique youth programs in leadership, environment/climate change, public diplomacy, international relations, and various global issues attract outstanding students who desire to be global leaders for the common good. The programs have them think how to solve the problems, not just noticing what the problems are.

PEOPLE AND NETWORK Prominent leaders from various circles, prominent scholars at prestigious universities, government agencies and NGOs in S. Korea and the U.S., and foreign embassies in S. Korea have been with HOBY Korea to support the future leaders since 2003. Also, over 500,000 HOBY alumni around the world are making a difference in the world.

PIONEER HOBY Korea is not complacent. We always seek innovation to accomplish our mission, sparking young people not only from S. Korea but from around the world to develop themselves into authentic leaders.

HOBY LEADERSHIP SEMINAR (LS) in S. Korea HOBY Korea has organized HOBY’s 3-4 day State Leadership Seminar for Korean students in January since 2003.

PURPOSE:

- To empower Korean youth through HOBY style Leaderhsip traning to make a positive impact on their school and local community. - To select ambassadors representing S. Korea to HOBY World Leadership Congress (WLC) (15-20 each year)

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Develop their leadership skills from a series of workshops about real-world issues - Interact with leaders from S. Korea through panels and presentations - Carry out community service projects to practice HOBY’s leadership-for-service skills - Build a network of other students, volunteers, and leaders outside of their community - Participate in hands-on activities to explore and exercise leadership

WHO CAN ATTEND:

- Age 14-18 with good command of English and academic performance - Showing leadership potential, community service experience, or something unique or special about him/heflself

HOW TO SELECT:

- Application with essay, teacher’s recommendation, and personal interview (if needed)

PURPOSE:

We live in an age wherein technology is shrinking distances and globalization is bringing the nations of the world closer and closer together. Diplomacy is increasing an essential skill for youth regardless of their field of study or specialty. Diplomatic International Forum of Seoul (DIFOS) is a program for middle school and high school students that provides a unique opportunity to learn the personal skills, the habits and etiquette and the leadership traits that are essential to being successful in diplomacy, whether in government, the United Nations, in NGOs or in the corporate world. For a time, teenagers will also learn different perspectives on global issues and the world, and get a chance to experience the world through number of different activities on multiculturalism and community activities.

ACADEMIC RESEARCH SEMINAR FOR GLOBAL YOUTH Knowledge is important in leadership and has power to create common good and value in society. As a youth leadership organization, HOBY Korea is committed to encouraging young leaders to explore their intellectual curiosity and share their knowledge to benefit others. ACADEMIC RESEARCH SEMINAR FOR GLOBAL YOUTH is one of the many platforms HOBY Korea has to fulfill this commitment.

PURPOSE:

To empower Korean youth to develop meaningful social and scientific impacts by inspiring them to seek new knowledge and creative problem-solving skills on the global level

Global Youth Environmental Essay Competition since 2014 Environmental destruction caused by climate change is not a matter of concern only for certain experts or people living in a certain region. It has become a critical issue that we all have to care about. Since 2014, HOBY Korea has organized the competition with different topics about climate change each year to continuously urge youth to pay attention to the threat of climate change and take action.

PURPOSE: - To raise awareness among teenagers of the seriousness of climate change and its impact on human - To motivate and encourage young people to take an action on climate change

Open to students from any country (grades between 7th and 12th)
